Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / All I Wanna Do: Appreciation
|

I'm not sure if this has been made already, but I'd like to shine light, on my personal favorite BB's tune.
I think "All I Wanna Do" is pure magic. The synths, organs, guitar, drums, and vocals are so amazing. The chords blow me away with the use of minor 7th chords, and key changes... I could go on and on...
I think it's Mikes highest point in the BBs career (maybe tied with Big Sur)

I wouldn't be surprised if David plays... That would be a treat. It's great when he joins M+B. To be honest, even if it just ends up being Mike, Bruce, and their band, it'll be a good time. Mike's band, under the leadership of ST, has really refined their sound. I saw them in 2014, with RK still , and they sounded great. Even though it would be a little depressing to have no Brian, Al, and Dave, Mike and Bruce will do the music justice.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Could Mike have written the lyrics for Pet Sounds?
|
on: March 31, 2016, 07:12:38 AM

Obviously, Brian wanted something fresh when he began writing for Pet Sounds, and that's a big reason on why he wrote with Asher. The big understanding of it all, is that Mike wrote songs about cars and surfing, and Brian wanted to write emotional songs. But, Mike wrote the lyrics for Warmth of The Sun, Please Let Me Wonder, and In The Back Of My Mind, which all have very Pet Sounds-ish lyrics. So, could he have been the lyricist for Pet Sounds? I mean, he already had a hand in I Know There's An Answer and I'm Waiting For The Day.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Blondie as a bassist
|

So it's pretty common knowledge that Ricky joined as a drummer and Blondie joined as a bassist.
But did Blondie really play bass? On stage it seems Ed Carter was always playing bass, and Blondie was always playing his gold Les Paul. What about in the studio? I can definitely see Al or Carl playing bass guitar, or in the case of Holland, someone playing a Moog bass.
Am I misinformed? Does anyone have any pics of Blondie playing bass in the studio or in concert?

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / BB's cirque du soleil

I had the wonderful experience of seeing Beatles Love last night. It was absolutely breathtaking. The sets, costumes, choreography, lights, sound, and of course THE MUSIC were all amazing. They even had an entire Beatles store with all of their music and all of the Beatles paraphernalia you could ask for. The whole thing got me thinking, could there be a cirque du soleil show, like LOVE, but with the Beach Boys??? Perhaps called (Mike) Love!

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Al's album is gone

I use Apple Music to listen to a lot of my music. I always have had physical copies of my BBs music, but I never got around to get a physical copy of Postcard From California. So I streamed it on Apple Music. Now it's gone! I checked other streaming services like Youtube and Spotify and it's gone from there too. It's not even on iTunes anymore. Why?

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Bruce as a session player
|

While it is known that Bruce had made a name for himself prior to joining the BBs, I find those years to be a bit of a mystery.
We know he was a record producer/arranger with Terry Melcher and had a surf band which released a few albums.
I always read and hear that he was at one point in a time a session musician. I have heard he played guitar, bass, piano, drums, etc... which surprises me, because I thought he didn't play bass until he joined the BBs. Also, I always hear he was in Phil Spector's band, which was perhaps why the BBs reached out to him in the 60's(?)
