626  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / All I Wanna Do: Appreciation on: May 14, 2016, 07:39:55 PM
I'm not sure if this has been made already, but I'd like to shine light, on my personal favorite BB's tune.

I think "All I Wanna Do" is pure magic. The synths, organs, guitar, drums, and vocals are so amazing. The chords blow me away with the use of minor 7th chords, and key changes... I could go on and on...

I think it's Mikes highest point in the BBs career (maybe tied with Big Sur)

I would LOVE to hear That's Not Me live! Mike's vocal is great on that song.

Mike started doing All I Wanna Do, but stopped, and I wish he would continue playing it. I think that's his greatest moment as a singer/songwriter.

I would love for something like this to be released.

I wouldn't be surprised if David plays... That would be a treat. It's great when he joins M+B.

To be honest, even if it just ends up being Mike, Bruce, and their band, it'll be a good time. Mike's band, under the leadership of ST, has really refined their sound. I saw them in 2014, with RK still  Embarrassed, and they sounded great. Even though it would be a little depressing to have no Brian, Al, and Dave, Mike and Bruce will do the music justice.

Damn, I thought we'd talk about the Lovester's failed levitation.
632  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian's musical arrangement inspirations for (primarily) Pet Sounds and Smile on: April 29, 2016, 07:14:22 AM
His inspiration for arrangements??

Acid and Pot probably.
633  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike and Bruce at TV Land Awards on: April 21, 2016, 11:55:46 AM
To be honest, I'm glad only Mike and Bruce were there.

It would be almost insulting to have Brian up there wasting his time singing Barbara Ann with Stamos!
Meanwhile, he's on a world tour celebrating the greatest album of all time, which he wrote, produced, and arranged.
634  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Tempo of live BB song performances throughout the years on: April 13, 2016, 07:30:04 PM
Yeah, I feel like Denny really drove Surfin' USA and Shut Down live.

Was playing everything slow in the 90's intentional?
635  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Show us your own Beach Boys album cover designs! on: April 12, 2016, 04:54:23 PM
Wow, I get very emotional when I look at that Going Home cover. That would've been great for NPP for TWGMTR.

Stephen,

This sounds incredible. Is this a remix or remaster?
637  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Could Mike have written the lyrics for Pet Sounds? on: March 31, 2016, 07:12:38 AM
Obviously, Brian wanted something fresh when he began writing for Pet Sounds, and that's a big reason on why he wrote with Asher. The big understanding of it all, is that Mike wrote songs about cars and surfing, and Brian wanted to write emotional songs. But, Mike wrote the lyrics for Warmth of The Sun, Please Let Me Wonder, and In The Back Of My Mind, which all have very Pet Sounds-ish lyrics. So, could he have been the lyricist for Pet Sounds? I mean, he already had a hand in I Know There's An Answer and I'm Waiting For The Day.

639  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Blondie as a bassist on: March 29, 2016, 08:54:28 PM
So it's pretty common knowledge that Ricky joined as a drummer and Blondie joined as a bassist.

But did Blondie really play bass? On stage it seems Ed Carter was always playing bass, and Blondie was always playing his gold Les Paul. What about in the studio? I can definitely see Al or Carl playing bass guitar, or in the case of Holland, someone playing a Moog bass.

Am I misinformed? Does anyone have any pics of Blondie playing bass in the studio or in concert?

I can't wait to listen! Stephen, as an audio engineer myself, I must say you're on of the all-time greats! These studies always inspire me, and give me fresh ideas.

642  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / BB's cirque du soleil on: March 27, 2016, 06:37:15 AM
I had the wonderful experience of seeing Beatles Love last night. It was absolutely breathtaking. The sets, costumes, choreography, lights, sound, and of course THE MUSIC were all amazing. They even had an entire Beatles store with all of their music and all of the Beatles paraphernalia you could ask for.

The whole thing got me thinking, could there be a cirque du soleil show, like LOVE, but with the Beach Boys??? Perhaps called (Mike) Love!  LOL LOL LOL

643  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Al's album is gone on: March 26, 2016, 06:38:08 AM
I use Apple Music to listen to a lot of my music. I always have had physical copies of my BBs music, but I never got around to get a physical copy of Postcard From California. So I streamed it on Apple Music. Now it's gone! I checked other streaming services like Youtube and Spotify and it's gone from there too. It's not even on iTunes anymore. Why?

When did Bruce transition from playing an electric piano (a wurlitzer i believe) to a synthesizer on stage?
648  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: BB song/songs you wish had a different lead vocalist? on: March 05, 2016, 07:50:46 AM
I wish Al would have taken the Mike's vocal on Bluebirds Over The Mountain
649  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Bruce as a session player on: March 03, 2016, 07:40:45 AM
While it is known that Bruce had made a name for himself prior to joining the BBs, I find those years to be a bit of a mystery.

We know he was a record producer/arranger with Terry Melcher and had a surf band which released a few albums.

I always read and hear that he was at one point in a time a session musician. I have heard he played guitar, bass, piano, drums, etc... which surprises me, because I thought he didn't play bass until he joined the BBs. Also, I always hear he was in Phil Spector's band, which was perhaps why the BBs reached out to him in the 60's(?)
