501  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1990's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Summer In Paradise on: August 07, 2017, 03:14:59 PM
There are some really great songs on here, and the worst part of the production is the LOUD SNARE!!!! On Bruce's song the intro always scares the sh*t out of me, cause that snare is so fricken loud!!!!!
502  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1990's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Summer In Paradise on: August 01, 2017, 09:21:58 PM
I honestly don't think is ALL bad... I like Hot Fun In The Summertime, Still Surfin, Island Fever, Strange Things Happen, and the title track. The production is pretty bad, but the songs aren't all that bad--- EXCEPT SUMMER OF LOVE---- EEEEEEWWWWWW its so creeepy!!!!!!!!!!!!  I also don't like the Surfin remake, even though I love the original 1961 version, and the version with Jan & Dean even more! Anyway, the production is crappy, but the songs and singing are good on the songs I mentioned above.

The 5/4 part on Deirdre

That is such a great album. They rocked really hard, but also played the ballads with great sensitivity. I love You Still Believe In Me, Caroline No, Funky Pretty, Surfin USA, Heroes And Villains and Don't Worry Baby. The only downside is I don't like the arrangement of Help Me Rhonda. I'd take the classic hit arrangement over the bluesy version any day.
505  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: My First BB Concert/Your First BB Concert on: July 23, 2017, 02:06:01 PM
My first Beach Boys concert was on August 26th 2014.  Mike & Bruce played a really great set and there wasn't a single bad note. The group sounded great from the first note of Do It Again to the last note of Fun, Fun, Fun. Great setlist with a few deep cuts. My favorite parts were the end of Why Do Fools Fall In Love and Bruce singing Disney Girls.
506  Smiley Smile Stuff / Other Solo Albums / Re: Mike Love of The Beach Boys: Catch A Wave (Mike Love) on: July 20, 2017, 03:33:44 PM
It's not really necessary, but the BB's songs are so good, that the CD is still fun to listen to. I'd much rather listen to the originals though.

All I Wanna Do is my favorite song and Mike vocal of all time. Fun, Fun Fun just popped into my head because I think it's one of his great rock n roll lead vocals, with that classic BBs sound
508  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Dennis' Lead on \ on: July 20, 2017, 02:33:02 PM
Without hearing about this from this post, I would have never noticed this, but now that I'm listening to the vocals-only version of the song, I can definitely hear what sounds like Denny in some parts.
509  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / A little love for Mr. Love on: July 20, 2017, 02:29:04 PM
There's a whole lotta Mike bashing on this website. But afterall, we are all here because we love The Beach Boys, and Mike is one of the original members, and still plays The Beach Boys music to this day. Let's make a thread of the reasons why we appriciate Mike Love, even if some of us don't have very many reasons.  I'll start us off...

1. Big Sur is a beautiful song
2. His vocals on Fun, Fun, Fun
3. His endurance and ability to perform well even after 50+ years.
4. His lyrics on Warmth of the Sun

That's just to get the ball rolling, but I think there is too much Mike bashing here. I love every Beach Boy, and at the end of the day I think Mike is a pretty talented guy.

(OSD might murder me for this post!!!!)

510  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Something I think we need to realize vis-à-vis Mike and the band's name... on: July 20, 2017, 02:23:22 PM
While I wish that the whole group played together, I have no problem with The Beach Boys being just Mike, Bruce and a backing band. The Beach Boys MUSIC has always been Brian, Mike, Carl, Dennis, Al (+Bruce, David, Blondie, Ricky, etc...) but The Beach Boys touring band has always been changing. Brian, Bruce, Al, and David all quit at one point and returned. There were two years without Carl. There was a show with no Mike(!) in the 80's I believe. The Beach Boys TOURING BAND has always been inconsistent with the real members of the group. Hell, the guys touring Pet Sounds in '66 (Carl, Dennis, Al, Bruce) didn't play the instruments on the record, yet they did live. What I'm trying to say, is I see them as two different entities. And as long as Mike puts on a good show (He does, I've seen him many times), I'm fine with him and Bruce being "The Beach Boys".

Anyone agree with me?
511  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike's re-recordings on: July 20, 2017, 02:08:57 PM
I think all of Mike's re-recordings aren't AWFUL. They aren't good, but they're not abysmal. I'd take any of Mike's re-recordings over Summer Of Love. There are a few of the re-recordings I actually like, even though I may be hated on this site for saying so. For example, on the Summer Cruisin' album, I like the re-recording of Surfin' USA, even though I'd take the original over the redo anyday.
512  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Mike's re-recordings on: July 18, 2017, 09:11:40 PM
Pardon me if this is already a thread, but what is the situation with Mike "re-recording classics" as he put it in his recent billboard interview. I remember in his book trailer there were re-recordings of Fun Fun Fun, Big Sur, and Good Vibrations if I recall correctly. Plus we know Getcha Back is being reworked, and now the Do It Again single. Will this be an album? I would have mixed feelings about this. The Big Sur re-recording from the book trailer sounded really good in my opinion.
513  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: A music video....... on: July 18, 2017, 01:15:13 PM
Yeah his bizarre face is what made both the performance and promo video so incredibly awkward.  LOL
514  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: A music video....... on: July 18, 2017, 12:04:30 PM
Honestly though, the video is fun. In a semi-ironic way. But the guys look like they're having so much fun, that I can't help but sing along. I HATE the synth sound riight before the last chorus though. Who produced this new single?
515  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: A music video....... on: July 18, 2017, 12:03:26 PM
I have to agree... Seeing the band playing together again was so cool. This just seems wrong in comparison.
516  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: A music video....... on: July 18, 2017, 11:44:23 AM
I'm pretty sure comments are disabled for everything on Mike's channel. Probably a smart move.
517  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: A music video....... on: July 18, 2017, 11:37:37 AM
Ok honestly, there is some charm to it. The Mcgrath guy looks his he's on cocaine, he's so energetic. I wish Bruce was in the video clapping.
518  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / A music video....... on: July 18, 2017, 11:35:18 AM
MIKE MADE A MUSIC VIDEO FOR THE NEW DO IT AGAIN SINGLE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4inGP8qMnPE&feature=youtu.be

I was fine with the 4th of July performance, just because it was fun. Didn't destroy the legacy like some people feared.

BUT THIS?Huh? THIS IS SO CRINGEY WTFFFFF
519  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Summer of Love - 'Til I Die on: July 18, 2017, 11:30:25 AM
This initial post in this thread is iconic.

Summer of Love and the Surfin remix are the musical low points of The Beach Boys career.

SIP isn't all bad though- I like Still Surfin (I like the modulations) and Strange Things Happen
520  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Did you ever dream that you joined the Beach Boys? on: July 16, 2017, 02:28:54 PM
I had a dream that I was in the current touring band (plus Dean Torrence was there) and it was so vivid. We played Surfin' Safari into Catch A Wave into Popsicle, which is a Jan & Dean song. It was cool because Mike sang Jan's bass parts! Anyway, I was playing a Fender VI bass and singing along. It was so vivid, in fact, that I feel like I really played with the band!! The rest of the touring act was there--- Jeff, Tim, Scott, Randy, John, Brian. It was so cool!! Bruce was wandering around and clapping, and patted me on the back on his return to the keyboard. Dean sang all the falsetto parts instead of Foskett. It was such a cool dream, and I amazed I remember so much.  Shocked

I also had a dream that I was with the band singing Surfin' at Hite Morgan's studio. I was playing guitar and singing but, of course, I just had to wake up
521  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys “Golden Medley” on Mike’s website on: July 09, 2017, 09:16:04 PM
These versions are actually pretty good. Are they the originals? No! But they have good energy and good vocals.
522  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson - 2017 Tour Thread (Pet Sounds - The Final Performances) on: July 06, 2017, 07:13:43 PM
I think its so cool that both Brian's band and Mike's band are playing "Aren't You Glad".  Smokin
523  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Thread for various insignificant questions that don't deserve their own thread! on: July 04, 2017, 10:26:40 PM
Is it just me or has Bruce's hair varied in colors for the last ten or so years?

Like at any given moment it could've been brown, red, grey, or even snow white...
524  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: “A Capitol Fourth” Concert 2017 on: July 04, 2017, 10:12:55 PM
UPDATE:

I just watched the full set. Not bad. Not really amazing, but its fun if you don't take it too seriously
525  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: “A Capitol Fourth” Concert 2017 on: July 04, 2017, 10:10:11 PM
Mike and company were good, even though seems to be identical to the single release (ie lipsyncing).

Mark McGrath is honestly funny as hell, and his "DO IT" shtick was very annoying on the single, but live it was hilarious. Just awkward to watch. So awkward.
