I honestly don't think is ALL bad... I like Hot Fun In The Summertime, Still Surfin, Island Fever, Strange Things Happen, and the title track. The production is pretty bad, but the songs aren't all that bad--- EXCEPT SUMMER OF LOVE---- EEEEEEWWWWWW its so creeepy!!!!!!!!!!!! I also don't like the Surfin remake, even though I love the original 1961 version, and the version with Jan & Dean even more! Anyway, the production is crappy, but the songs and singing are good on the songs I mentioned above.

My first Beach Boys concert was on August 26th 2014. Mike & Bruce played a really great set and there wasn't a single bad note. The group sounded great from the first note of Do It Again to the last note of Fun, Fun, Fun. Great setlist with a few deep cuts. My favorite parts were the end of Why Do Fools Fall In Love and Bruce singing Disney Girls.

There's a whole lotta Mike bashing on this website. But afterall, we are all here because we love The Beach Boys, and Mike is one of the original members, and still plays The Beach Boys music to this day. Let's make a thread of the reasons why we appriciate Mike Love, even if some of us don't have very many reasons. I'll start us off...
1. Big Sur is a beautiful song 2. His vocals on Fun, Fun, Fun 3. His endurance and ability to perform well even after 50+ years. 4. His lyrics on Warmth of the Sun
That's just to get the ball rolling, but I think there is too much Mike bashing here. I love every Beach Boy, and at the end of the day I think Mike is a pretty talented guy.
(OSD might murder me for this post!!!!)

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Something I think we need to realize vis-à-vis Mike and the band's name...

While I wish that the whole group played together, I have no problem with The Beach Boys being just Mike, Bruce and a backing band. The Beach Boys MUSIC has always been Brian, Mike, Carl, Dennis, Al (+Bruce, David, Blondie, Ricky, etc...) but The Beach Boys touring band has always been changing. Brian, Bruce, Al, and David all quit at one point and returned. There were two years without Carl. There was a show with no Mike(!) in the 80's I believe. The Beach Boys TOURING BAND has always been inconsistent with the real members of the group. Hell, the guys touring Pet Sounds in '66 (Carl, Dennis, Al, Bruce) didn't play the instruments on the record, yet they did live. What I'm trying to say, is I see them as two different entities. And as long as Mike puts on a good show (He does, I've seen him many times), I'm fine with him and Bruce being "The Beach Boys".
Anyone agree with me?

I think all of Mike's re-recordings aren't AWFUL. They aren't good, but they're not abysmal. I'd take any of Mike's re-recordings over Summer Of Love. There are a few of the re-recordings I actually like, even though I may be hated on this site for saying so. For example, on the Summer Cruisin' album, I like the re-recording of Surfin' USA, even though I'd take the original over the redo anyday.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Mike's re-recordings

Pardon me if this is already a thread, but what is the situation with Mike "re-recording classics" as he put it in his recent billboard interview. I remember in his book trailer there were re-recordings of Fun Fun Fun, Big Sur, and Good Vibrations if I recall correctly. Plus we know Getcha Back is being reworked, and now the Do It Again single. Will this be an album? I would have mixed feelings about this. The Big Sur re-recording from the book trailer sounded really good in my opinion.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Did you ever dream that you joined the Beach Boys?

I had a dream that I was in the current touring band (plus Dean Torrence was there) and it was so vivid. We played Surfin' Safari into Catch A Wave into Popsicle, which is a Jan & Dean song. It was cool because Mike sang Jan's bass parts! Anyway, I was playing a Fender VI bass and singing along. It was so vivid, in fact, that I feel like I really played with the band!! The rest of the touring act was there--- Jeff, Tim, Scott, Randy, John, Brian. It was so cool!! Bruce was wandering around and clapping, and patted me on the back on his return to the keyboard. Dean sang all the falsetto parts instead of Foskett. It was such a cool dream, and I amazed I remember so much. I also had a dream that I was with the band singing Surfin' at Hite Morgan's studio. I was playing guitar and singing but, of course, I just had to wake up
