126  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Our gratitude towards Brian at RFH? on: September 04, 2011, 09:21:33 AM
We all have our arguments and thoughts about Brian and his life and music and what to do and what not to do.
But in our hearts we all love Brian don't we? But how often do we show our gratitude towards d'man?

I remember going to the Smile concert in Newcastle and how surprised I was when he did
Row row your boat together with the audience - we all had fun!

Now wouldn't it be great if we all did "For He's A Jolly Good Fellow" after the RFH show... Smiley

(British Version)

Quite fast, like this:

"For he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fellow
For he's a jolly good felloooow (pause), and so say all of us (clap clap - clapping our hands quickly)
And so say all of us (clap clap), and so say all of us (clap clap)
For he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fellow
For he's a jolly good felloooooow (pause), and so say all of us!" (clap clap)

Ideas about this? Smiley

Funny they choose a surfboard for the light up box set - wasn't "surf's down" in 1967?  Cool Guy

Why is Capitol and the BB/BW camps not saying a word about this release..

The silence is deafening

... and the amazon pre-sales are mounting.

And what about this - is it the full box???

Not sure if this has been posted. The price went up to $170 on amazon.

Would still be a steal.

I have to admit I'd buy the box if it were $470 even If it meant scrimping and saving for a couple of months. It's just a once In a lifetime must have box set.
Having said that I was more than happy(and lucky) to score it for the $110 Happy Dance.

The way this thread is going we'll make 500 pages by November!

Problem is it's not just _one box_... ;/

OK... donning my deerstalker and sucking on my meerschaum (it's legal in SW Surrey...), the following seems to be the case:

the 2CD set has a button available nowhere else, and I'd be amazed if CD2 was duplicated on the box...

the box CDs 2-5 have stuff exclusive to them (3-5 for sure)...

side 4 of the vinyl has material exclusive to that format...

the 45s could well have exclusive material...

don't even think about the digital download...

I think we've been well served.

Very soon I'll be singing:

(Vegetables carrot beat thing...)

"there's a hole
in my wallet
there's a hole
in my wallet..."

:D

But I don't care cause I'm so excited!!!  Smiley

I saw that video and my best laid plans of going to a shop and getting on the day of release are buggered. Pre-ordered!

£126, as it tots up to with the fastest shipping and with the price hikes, is still insanely good.

£126? Convertion or is it available on any UK sites?

So now this thread's about what we're supposed to talk about and not talk about instead of talking about what we really should be talking about... ;P

Who here hasn't got a BB b**t at home, please raise your hand. Ok, I see 1 - no 2 hands.... Sorry, only one hand, sir... Cool Guy

Sorry for asking, but what's that "cassette from California" Phil's talking about? I have heard some Smile stuff, but hasn't got access to it right now
(I used to trade way back... Wink ). I cannot recall hearing the Surf's up sessions so loud and clear.
Has the "cassette from California" stuff been b**ted before?

/b

You're going to get in big trouble.  The mods are fine with libeling people, even when their true names are used, but discussion of the things that rhyme with "toots" can get you banned.

Really?

Thanks SMiLE-Holland Smiley

And meanwhile - (waiting for the box set): what about that cassette - nothing significant? No more than the other stuff available out there?
(Sorry, getting old, memory doesn't serve me well... Wink )

Hmmm, sorry but on this board there are discussions about Smile (not official except for a few songs)(!!), Lei'd in Hawaii, Out in the country, personal mixes of H&V, Wilson tapes, you name it... Wink

Or nothing better than to spend huge amounts of time preparing something they know they aren't going to release. I mean, all for differing opinions, but Phil that doesn't even make sense! It's poor business to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars, at least, paying everybody from Mark Linett to the art department to the engineers as they audition tapes and jst not release the thing because, ooh, the fans are talking about it?!

Well, they spent a hell of a lot of money back in the 60's and then scrapped the project - there have also been plans throughout the years, not without costs, I believe???  Undecided

Peter L just posted this link on Facebook. It's one of my absolute Brian faves.
It's interesting to listen to it in stereo, you hear some voices in the left channel, buried deep down (or at a low level).
Would like to hear those sessions as well...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCXFLxCARRs&feature=share

There's a lot of stuff "hidden" in Brian's songs. When for instance you listen to "I just wasn't made for these times" on "Pet Sounds sessions" you hear a whole new song!

This version from 2001 is great:

Guys, we shouldn't be blaming the internet, we should be blaming Al Jardine.

If It wasn't for him, we wouldn't know sweet FA about this boxset until Capitol released a full press release, with release dates, a tracklist and everything probably sometime in August.

As such, Al's loose lips ensured they had to essentially say 'The box is coming, we're working on it, but we don't know the details' and couch that in vague press talk. So we're waiting in real time, as opposed to the thing being under wraps until July or August, where we would have had the big announcement and a month or so wait.
Or it could be 100% intented to be that way by Captiol to get the fans talking about it on the net.  A big buildup usually will help sell more units than an "oh by the way, SMiLE is coming out next month" (which many people might miss).  Getting people to talk about it for months is a good way to stir the pot of interest.

I remember the buildup for the Led Zeppelin DVD and Live CD in 2002-2003.  The wait was brutal, and we not only had to wait almost a year for the release once we knew about it, but there were tons of news stories about it, and rumors about possible other releases coming after those two.  It was exciting, but very hard to wait! Cheesy

So, really, we should get on as many boards as possible and start discussions!!!  Cool Guy
