1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Holland was released 45 years ago today. on: January 09, 2018, 01:02:29 PM
Has there been an explanation why they left out "We got love" and not for instance "Leaving this town" or "Steamboat"? Not releasing the stunningly beautiful "We got love" must be one of their biggest mistakes ever, imo...
2  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Love you instruments? on: January 05, 2018, 04:13:46 PM
While the guitar work on "Love You" is obviously pretty sparse, some of the guitar work buried in there is pretty tasty. "The Night Was So Young" has some really interesting guitar work buried under there.

Thanks for the information all!! Love "The night...", it's so beautiful it feels deep down in your stomach. And listen to the clever and tasty guitar playing on "Roller..." 😀

Does anyone know what instruments were used on Love you, and who played what? Thx!
4  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Complete instrument/-ation? on: January 04, 2018, 01:48:01 PM
Wow, sounds interesting. Is it online anywhere?
5  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Complete instrument/-ation? on: January 03, 2018, 10:18:33 AM
Is there a website or are there any books dealing with the instrumentation/instruments used in BB recordings? By the boys themselves or studio musicians... (not counting the Wrecking Crew)
6  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: If you were to make a 1CD career-spanning BB best of... on: January 03, 2018, 10:02:41 AM
Tried doing a pure "best of" comp, but impossible without including several hits...

Ok here goes:

The warmth of the sun
In the back of my mind
California girls
Wouldn't it be nice
That's not me
God only knows
I just wasn't made for these times
Good vibrations
Heroes and villains
Vegetables
Let the wind blow
Little Bird
Be with me
Time to get alone
Cabinessence
This whole world
Our sweet Love
Cool cool water
Long promised road
Disney girls (1957)
Feel flows
Til I die
Surf's up
You need a mess of help to stand alone
All this is that
Cuddle up
Sail in sailor
Lady Lynda
Love surrounds me

Surfin' USA
In my room
Please let me wonder
Busy doin' nothin'
Slip on through
Had to phone ya
The night was so young
My Diane
Match point of our love
I'm so lonely

8  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Brian's web site??? on: February 11, 2017, 11:49:21 PM
What's up (or rather down) with http://www.brianwilson.com??? Site not available...

This was always a favorite of mine...  But then, on the other hand, I also enjoyed listening to Spike Jones... Grin
(Wonder if Brian - or any of the other boys - liked Spike Jones??)

Pre-listening available. Muddy sound, not worth it. Perhaps for these songs: Rockin' all over the world, Lucille, Surf city - yeah they sould definitely be doing some other stuff, not just their own... Lucille is wild... :D
11  Smiley Smile Stuff / Ask The Honored Guests / Re: The Stephen Desper Thread on: May 29, 2015, 11:09:09 AM
As a long time fan (mid 60's) I just have to thank God (or whoever) that I am alive and living now so I get to hear all of this wonderful music!!!! Always loved Sunflower!!! Thank you so much Mr Desper for being a part of that - what should I call it - piece of life's happiness...  Hats off!!    Smiley

With David, Al and Blondie on the album, I was expecting some real rocking sound, but no... :/
13  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Preview No Pier Pressure On Google Play! on: February 20, 2015, 05:23:52 AM
Sean O'Hagan said it best:
"As far as I can see, Joe Thomas hasn't got a clue about Brian Wilson or his legacy. It's all just 'Little Deuce Coupe' to him. He wanted Brian to make a big Eighties ballad record, all cavernous snares. He kept referring to Brian's potential as an Adult Contemporary crossover artist. I sad, 'Don't you realize Brian Wilson is essentially a 20th-century avant-garde pop genius?' And he went, 'Avant-garde? Not the Brian Wilson I know'"

Brian always was - and still is - an innovative writer/artist, not one of those "contemporary" artists! Sean O'Hagan is absolutely right! It's just that Brian is too weak, or rather, too kind to say what he thinks, to get rid of people...

Remember Landy?? A rock star???

Thanks for the Soundcloud preview!!!

Sounds great, but a little too much of that melancholy Imagination sound...
With Al, Blondie and David on the album I was expecting at least a couple of real rockers...
The samba song is great, On the island, as is the disco type song, Runaway dancer...
Im Feeling Sad - Summer means new love w/lyrics - a pleasant surprise! Smiley

15  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Capitol to Release Brian Wilson's 'No Pier Pressure' April 7: press release on: February 01, 2015, 12:04:40 PM
I'm a little surprised that the Hollens song is on the album. It's been available for a few months now on his own album. I was not expecting it to appear on NPP.

And then comes the next question: why isn't Emile Haynie - "Falling Apart" (Feat. Andrew Wyatt & Brian Wilson) on the album? Love it!!

http://youtu.be/uo2JLzGiEj4

I think NPP features BW compositions, or co-compositions. He didn't have a hand in writing "Falling Apart," as far as I know, or the Mini Mansions tune, either. He did, however, write "Our Special Love" with JT, so ...

Ok, thanks!! Smiley

I could listen to that pedal steel intro for hours, I love that!
I'm happy this will get a(nother) official release. Blondie and Ricky had great material and I'd love to hear more of it.

BTW this would be another one that would've been a better choice for "Stars&Stripes" than most of what was used.

Blondie and Ricky did a lot for the BB - their songs are super!! And, yes, that pedal steel intro is something else. Also the singing on the bridge (correct term?)("I made my home out in the city..." etc) is heavenly...

Ray and Debbie - I've been a fan of the BB and Brian ever since the mid 60's. Thank you for your wonderful posts and for bringing true insights! Keep up the good work! And sincere compliments to Melinda for taking care of Brian!!!  Smiley
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brother Re-Issues: Proposed Bonus Tracks on: July 08, 2014, 11:27:43 AM
(Please forgive my bad English) There's been a lot of stuff released officially, including some great songs from the archives - the latest being Made in California. Unfortunately the BB (etc) are holding on to the rest of the stuff. However, I am pretty sure many of the songs mentioned here will be released officially, but how many more fans will have to die before they release the stuff? Am I being selfish? Because I enjoy everything BB/Brian? "Give the people what the people want" (?) Huh

Does "Why" remind anyone else of TWGMTR (the song) ? I can't help feeling there's a similarity.
Oh yeah, I DEFINATELY see a similarity.i also hear it on Live Let Live on TLOS

The best!! It's so good, the chords are so good, my stomach hurts... I mean it!! Not many songs do that... Why???
23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys in current Rock Cellar magazine on: September 11, 2013, 03:01:18 PM

ANYWAY, this struck me as pretty interesting, and would love to hear what he had intended the KTSA song to sound like

I agree!! Is there an early ("Bruce-ier") version of KTSA in the vaults??

It's really amazing when you think about it, we've had the PS and the Smile sessions!!
That's really awesome!!

But what about the rest, will we ever get to hear sessions, outtakes etc before we die?? Wink
Work in progress - fun, educational and inspiring!

WIMPY (OR NOT) - VOL 1:

Tears in the morning
Lookin' at tomorrow
When girls get together
Disney girls
Busy doin' nothin'
Matchpoint of our love
Hold on dear brother
I don't wanna know
The surfer moon
The nearest faraway place
Let's go away for a while
She's goin' bald
Everyone's in love with you
I'm so lonely
She believes in love again
Make it good
Ballad of ole Betsy

Smiley
