Some years ago I asked this exact very same question to one of the Beach Boys. He was surprised to hear about this and confirmed that Al has no issues at all with SNJ, but one song Al really didn't want to perform was "Summer in Paradise".
Then we had ice cream.
That's odd, because SIP was in the setlist for several years - unlike most other new material in the 80's/90's.

I was watching their HOF induction a couple nights ago, didn't even recognize Allan, and sadly his voice is gone now, but it was nice to see them get their due recognition - one of the few times in recent years the HOF got it right.

I've got a couple of their hits collections, and do love those songs, especially "Look Through Any Window", "Bus Stop", and "Long Cool Woman". There is just so much great music out there, and not time enough to absorb it all, but I probably do need to give some of their albums a chance.

Lori is gorgeous. I'd hit on her too. At least Mike has good taste.
I'm sure Mike always picks good looking women. No wonder, comes with the package of being rich and successful, thanks to that Brian cousin some of you hate. Someone here hates Brian? I don't believe that even Mike Love hates Brian. He's not to thrilled with some of Brian's handlers, though.

Those outits they wore in the early days made the stripe shirts of the beachboys actually look appealing.
any fans of The little Steven'garage show here? I listen every week. a real treat of a radio show.
Paul Revere once said that if the Raiders had been in the kind of outfits the Young Rascals wore, they would've gotten out of them too! Poor guys with their knees sticking out. Fortunately, the tight pants the Raiders wore covered their whole legs.

I love Full House because of the Beach Boys because they were in the show in 1988 doing Kokomo and one in 1990 when Mike came and did Be True To your School and the episode was a Telethon. Another one was Jesse doing Forever and Mike and Bruce and Carl came by and let Jesse to do the Song Forever. Just do a Sequel and put in the Beach Boys with Original Cast
Let Mike and Bruce appear on the new Full House; Brian, Al and David will be busy with the revival of Boy Meets World (which, btw, once featured a reunited Monkees playing a high school dance).

There would be little or no demand in the UK for these cd's, those fans grew up with the British albums. In the US, a lot of us grew up with the Capitol albums - I played them so much, they are ingrained in my memory. When I hear "I Want to Hold Your Hand" end, I immediately hear "1, 2, 3, 4" in my head, kicking off "I Saw Her Standing There". And Rubber Soul starts with "I've Just Seen a Face", not "Drive My Car". To my admittedly biased ears, that would be like The Beatles aka White Album kicking off with "Hey Jude" instead of "Back in the USSR", or Sgt. Pepper starting with "Stawberry Fields Forever".

Terry Melcher did a lot of great backing vocals on a number of Paul Revere and the Raiders songs. For an example, check out Good Thing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjGb-ZYQGPAWritten by Mark Lindsay and Terry Melcher, and produced by Melcher, Lindsay sings lead, and all other vocals are done by Melcher. Yeah, Terry's voice is all over those Raider hits. You can hear him very prominently on "Him Or Me", too. So much so that as a kid I thought that voice belonged to one of the Raiders - maybe Phil Volk.

It didn't hurt that the Beatles starred in a couple successful movies. All the kids saw those back in the day, so it would be hard to walk out of the theater and not be able to tell Paul from John, George from Ringo. The same reason is why the individual Monkees became so well known. If the Beach Boys had done a couple films in their 60's heyday, everyone would have known that Mike was the one with the receding hairline; Dennis was the blonde surfer; Brian was the tallest Beach Boy, and cute in sort of a shy wallflower way; Carl may have been chubby, but girls swooned when he sang. And Al was the short one.

Terry Melcher invented folk rock..?? I would"nt go that far. Certainly he was there at the beginings of the genre ..Another record around the same time that has been mentioned is Sounds of Silence.. Iv "e always though Mcguinn"s Folkie roots combined with Beatle music + Rickenbacker 12 string was a natural accident. I"d give much more credit to Mcguinn than Melcher..
I think he rather moulded Revere and The Raiders into a pop act than made The Byrds a folk-rock band This is true. The Byrds were already headed into a folk/rock direction, after seeing "A Hard Days Night". Paul Revere and the Raiders were a hard driving party rock band, covering mostly r&b tunes, until Melcher started bringing them pop/rock tunes like "Kicks" and "Hungry". Out went the raucous party band, replaced with something more refined, Mark Lindsay's singing changed from all out hollering to soft, controlled, and the band did harmonies behind him - a style somewhere between the Beach Boys and the Rolling Stones.

The only Monkees song he did at the show I saw was "Papa Gene's Blues". I would have enjoyed hearing him do a few more, but on the other hand, it's nice to see a veteran artist go out and not just play a greatest hits show. Never believed the day would come that I would get to see Nez in concert, and here him do songs like Joanne, Sllver Moon, Propinquity, Rio, Casblanca Moonlight, just amazing.

There was a long time when no Badfinger records or cd's were on the market, but that's all changed now. The Apple cd's are available, and the families of the members are getting paid. If Pete and Tom could have gotten themselves through the rough times, they'd be doing quite well today. Just a shame that they chose to go the way they did.

I can't imagine that group of people getting together at this stage - foulmouthed Bob Saget with fundamentalist (and sister of Kirk) Candace Cameron; recovering meth addict Jodi Sweetin. But you know ML would love to see the show return so he and Bruce can sing "Kokomo" with the kids again...and so ML has another chance to hit on Becky, aka Lori Loughlin.

actually, a 'stars and stripes vol.2' could work really well with the right song/artist.....
I know the vol 1 is not everyone's favourite, but I don't think it's still an abandoned idea....
we are working with 'classic' material for starters.
perhaps the beach boys don't have to necessarily to be vocally involved..
the better approach maybe is to let each artist submit their own version/interpretation and then comp the album...
or go left field and get someone like T-Bone or Rick Rubin to produce it....... now that would be COOOOOOL!

The "guest appearance" by Red was actually his flown in pedal steel part - done as a loving tribute. The current guitar/mandolin/lap steel wizard on stage is Chris Scruggs.
Yes, that was an amazing moment in the show. It was just plain amazing to be in a theater full of die-hard Nez-fans that knew all these obscure (to the mainstream) songs.

What actually happened to Badfinger ?
They had a manager, Stan Polley, who ripped them off, made millions while the band lived in squalor. He was also the manager for Al Kooper and Lou Christie. The band's mentor, Bill Collins, got them signed to Apple, but my impression is that he was in over his head, so Polley was hired to manage the band's affairs. Of course, it's worth noting that Apple was being run by Allen Klein, as ruthless a business man as you could ever meet, and he let Badfinger get away after a few years on Apple. Badfinger was by the far the biggest selling non-Beatle act on Apple, but they ended up signing with Warners in 1973. The guys ended up broke, Pete Ham killed himself in 1975, and Tom Evans did the same in 1983. In fact, Joey Molland is the lone surviving member of the classic lineup. Mike Gibbins passed away in his sleep in 2006. They made great music while they were together, though. Not many bands have had that many strong writers and singers in the same lineup - no wonder they were compared with the Beatles.
