Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Carl Wilson's \

I swear I saw Carl Wilson's first CD in a record store at the same time POB came out back whenever that was. Not so sure about YOUNGBLOOD.
I read somewhere that there was a third Carl album that was recorded in '85 or '86 that was rejected, and I've asked other people who basically laughed this idea out of the room, because of the cost overruns on YOUNGBLOOD which made it unlikely a label would ever finance a CW album again. Does anyone know anything about a theoretical third CW album, or was this just one of those apocryphal things that turns up? It did strike me as credible, just because it's the kind of thing most people wouldn't make up, and Carl wasn't exactly that creative with the BBs after '85.
I got the original POB CD on Caribou in July 1989. So I would assume both of Carl's' albums came out on Caribou then as well. I wish I got them. The "3rd" Carl album that i know of was a collaborative venture called Beckley- Lamm- Wilson "Like A brother". I only have a boot version. Be nice to see this one remastered as well. So I can toss the boot copy.

I put it in my amazon shopping cart an hour ago at $16.98, and now it is already down to $13.99. Grab it now!
Down to 12.95 as of yesterday. I pre-ordered my copy. I will message Billy about if he will be doing Carl's self-titled album next. If so, I am a guaranteed customer for it as well. I have both LP versions already. But if Yougblood is going to get the kind of TLC that POB got, I am VERY eager.

Well I got the actual CD a short time after it's release. I think "Don't Fight The Sea" is my favorite track. I am so glad Al was finally able to get this out. I had messaged Trish about it about a year ago and she told me the hassles they were going through trying t get it out. I honestly think AL has the best voice now of all the guys. He still sounds like he did in 1965.

...2. The booklet states that the stereo versions of Love Me Do and PS I Love you were discarded and they had to use the mono version. That's odd. I have them in stereo on a CD I made a while back.
I'm not sure which source you used (an LP?), the old stereo LMD and PSILY were in "fake" stereo (a la the '66 Pet Sounds - duophonic sound). This means they where the mono mixes that had been EQ'd differently in each stereo channel to make it look as if they were stereo. In short, the new discs are the original mixes without the junk on them. I got my versions of Love Me do and PS I Love you on-line. (shh) I wanted to make a stereo CD of Beatles tunes I liked. So I deleted ones that weren't. Love me do and PS, both have the vocals in the right channel. Would that still be duophonic?

OK, I just bought the Please Please Me CD last night. I am curious about a couple things.
1. Near the end of the song Please Please Me, there is echo on the vocals that wasn't there throughout the song. Was that the original intention of the sound, or an engineering "oops"? I think it would have sounded better without the echo.
2. The booklet states that the stereo versions of Love Me Do and PS I Love you were discarded and they had to use the mono version. That's odd. I have them in stereo on a CD I made a while back.

Give me the link to buy it, and I have money already reserved.
If its the same material that was posted last year I would save that money for another time. I 've always liked Al but the material I heard was pretty weak. Do we need a blues version of "Help Me Rhonda"? I kind of doubt it. I HATE the blues version of Rhonda BTW. But Al's debut album is historic in any Beach Boys collection. So I will buy it no matter what. Heck, I hate "The Beach Boys Love You" LP, but bought it so my collection would be complete.

Thanks for "borrowing" my question to Bruce for me. I don't mind at all !! As a matter of fact, if I was able to post to the BBB board myself I would have asked him. I have been banned there a year ago due to a misunderstanding with a fellow poster. Which is resolved now, however I still have not been allowed back. Seems AGD didn't get the memo from Laurie Biagini. Oh well. I read the boards every day and only post to this one. It would be nice to have Bruce actually post back to any question or comment I make.
Thank you again for "borrowing" my question. I am just surprised nobody asked him it before.

At least they thought out their questions better than the interview in Atlanta. You can tell how both Mike and Bruce are answering. Much more relaxed. I would like to know where Bruce was, and what he thought, when HE heard his first song being played? Not the first beach Boys song he heard.

It played fine for me. The interviewer should have done MUCH more homework. My approach... If you're not already well knowledgeable about The beach Boys, DON'T do an interview and make yourself look silly. "only 2 originals left?" Ahen! Al Jardine and David Marks were not even mentioned. I can see how Mike seems tired of the same type of questions being asked. Asking them about Michael Jackson? I know asking initially about his passing might be OK. But Michael Jackson is a different generation and differrent style than The Beach Boys. Not much musical connection. Proper perspective would be asking how The Beatles influenced The Beach Boys. But that has been asked many times too.
Note to interviewer... study every question you want to ask. Do REAL homework. Ask ORIGINAL questions to get them to open up.

I actually prefer to hear Al singing lead on those songs rather than Mike. (shh... don't tell Mike. LOL) No nasal vocals.LOL And Al has aged the best out of all The Beach Boys, in my opinion. His voice still sounds like it did in the mid 60's! I have told Trish Campo about that and she agrees too.
