26  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Top 10 Hip-Hop Albums on: May 17, 2016, 01:17:12 PM
Kanye West - The College Dropout
Flobots - Fight with Tools
Jurassic 5 - Quality Control
Lupe Fiasco - The Cool
Plan B - Who needs actions when you've got words
Rhymefest - Blue Collar
Scroobious Pip - Distraction Pieces
Stanley Odd - Oddio (tough to choose which one of theirs to be fair)
Eminem - Marshall Mathers LP
Dizzee Rascal - Boy in da corner (grime technically, I suppose...)

Some of those wouldn't have got in if I could have multiple albums from same artists - Late Registration, Platypus, Food & Liquor, Time for Plan B, Reject, Angles, Slim Shady LP...all would've probably got in....

Not that I'm attempting to hijack this thread or anything.....

I am also wanting a beach boys tattoo - I've been very impressed by the stained glass bee of another member and may be a copy cat but I'd rather have something original. My favourite most influential favourite album is Love You - the tapestry cover is tempting but not sure how it would work as a tattoo.

Ideas please people! - A moog? A roller skating child? An airplane flying over dots?

 Lets hear your thoughts....

I wouldn't be afraid of using someone else's ideas. Again, having looked a zillion tattoos over recent weeks, most any idea you think of has probably already been done, unless you start getting really weird (Brian smoking a corn cob pipe, wearing a hazmat suit, driving a bulldozer down the 405).

That's the one! That's the tat for me!  LOL LOL LOL

Hey guys - quick question for people who've booked the meet and greet. I've booked for Manchester and I've had my normal ticket through the post but I don't have anything that tells me time or accreditation for the meet n greet. Is this normal? Should I be worried? If it's not normal who should I contact? Ticket vendor, venue or bw website?

Cheers in advance

I got an email about a week before. This is the address you should contact: vipinfouk@artistarenasupport.com

Cheers

Brilliant mate, I'll drop them a message now. Thanks!!

I don't feel guilty about any of the Love You tracks  Grin

I find myself belting out some of the early tracks with trite lyrics more often than I should

When I grow up (to be a man) and such....
32  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Yes we love Pet Sounds, but 2017 will be the 40th anniversary of Love You!! :O on: May 14, 2016, 01:53:30 PM
How about a Wild Honey (50th)/Love You (40th) tour?!! Do both albums back to back!!

Well, that's a tour that I would pay a lot of money that I don't have to see!!

Also....and I'm sorrynotsorry about this

Sweet Insanity > BW88
34  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Currently obsessed with the Sweet Insanity sessions.. on: May 14, 2016, 01:27:44 PM
I adore both.

Sweet Insanity is such an apt title for the album. It's bonkers, confused and bounces between genius and puerile with wreckless abandon. Much like Brian at the time. It's absolutely one of my favourite BB/BW albums

As for the Paley Sessions...oh for a finished version. Out of the two my heart is more with SI but I could listen to both albums on repeat for hours...

I'm well Jel, I must say!

Never used one but the appeal of reproducing Love You makes me giddy!  Banana Banana Ahhh!
36  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: So what did we all do today? on: April 08, 2016, 05:43:18 PM
Woke up stupidly early (like 5am) worrying about stuff. Got the kids up and off to school. Had a long chat with their mum (we're separated) which was surprisingly positive. Came home, took my girlfriend out for dinner (slow cooked brisket), game of pool, pack home had a nap from which I awoke having a massive anxiety dream about work. Went to said work (filming a band, this time a bunch of guys in their 60's pumping out some very decent Rock N Roll), came home, popped to supermarket, had some *ahem* libations, currently browsing through the internet listening to music as girlfriend has had many libations and is currently laid on the floor... (this is usual behaviour....)

*Question inspired by a recent movie trailer and a 60s classic rock staple*

One pill makes you larger (approx 30 ft tall) and the other pill makes you small (approx 12 inches tall).

What do you choose?

Got to be small? All the places you could get in and out of unseen....

Also, if large - everyone would know...you'd be a freak, on the news and adverts and stuff. Nah, small for me....

Wow, a year ago?

I was at work when it was released and tethered my iPhone to my laptop in an unused room to download as I couldn't  access the wifi there. Soon as it came down I put it on my iPod and listened whilst I worked.

I can still remember the feeling listening to that first track, I really thought I was going to hear something special, man, that track blew me away.

Alas, it was not to be as the album was all downhill from there, for me. It's not a classic, it's 'ok' not a travesty but hardly great.

Hi AGD,
I have a quick question for you if you don't mind me hijacking the thread. I want to fire a quick email to Brian's TM for this tour, any idea who I should be contacting? (PM is fine if more appropriate:-) )
44  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Pet Sounds Merchandise on: February 20, 2016, 04:29:45 AM
Merch...one of my favourite things!

At the Mike and Bruce show last year I bought some nice stuff. Only annoyance was hardly anything going past XL, I dunno, I don't class myself as crazy large but there was a SDASN T-shirt on the last tour that was awesome. I really wanted it, till sizing defeated me!

As for the Brian Tour....I really hope there is some good stuff - I'm saving for it already!

Wishlist:

Love and Mercy pseudo signed T-Shirt that he's toured with before
Pet Sounds T-Shirt, green but just not the logo, I think it was a giraffe on the last tour but something similar
Some interesting random stuff would be nice - pack of cards, shot glass, zippo, poncho
Cap and Hoodie are always a must as well.

47  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1970's Beach Boys Albums / Re: The Beach Boys Love You on: February 09, 2016, 12:35:42 PM
I gave Love You another listen this evening while dining.

Say what you like about this board but if it hadn't been for Smiley I would not be the great fan of this album that I am today.

Thank you so much, folks, for converting me!

Nice one man, it's an album that is so close to my heart. It's the album I put on when I'm in  a bad mood and need to cheer up...
48  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What if The Beach Boys Love You was scrapped? on: February 08, 2016, 08:28:50 AM
I truly can't understand the mindset of how joyless one would have to be to not love the beauty and wonder of Love You. Ok sure it gets a little creepy here and there.

I know it's a comparison that's been made before but I think that those who don't like Love You probably don't think that Daniel Johnston writes good songs. The two are very comparible in my eyes. By the glossy standards of the Top 40 or Billboard it can been seen as trash. By the standards of what, in my eyes, music should be about there is nothing better.
49  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What if The Beach Boys Love You was scrapped? on: February 07, 2016, 03:45:35 PM

Love You = quirky enjoyable tunes, with some humorous lyrics, instinctively recorded with a generous dash of genius (+ Love Is a Woman).

 LOL
50  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What if The Beach Boys Love You was scrapped? on: February 07, 2016, 01:20:32 PM
The Beach Boys Love You is a masterpiece. An open-hearted, synthesized, psychedelic, test-of-time-standing, schizoaffective-punk  masterpiece.

In my case, I praise Love You because it's better than any other Beach Boys album except Smiley Smile. More inventive, more interesting, more honest, more *strange*. It's worth a thousand Sunflowers (an album I think is as overrated as Love You is underrated)

 Yes, Yes and thrice Yes.

 Firstly, excellent thread. I could bang on and on about the album itself, my love for it knows no bounds. However, as The Captain pointed out, the question asked is what should be answered, but I fear it's an anti-climactic answer;

Nothing, diddly squat, zip, nada would have changed if this album hadn't been released. It seems clear that Brian was given free reign with the album (hence why its wonderful IMHO) and it flopped so he wasn't trusted again. If this and then A/C had been rejected outright then he just wouldn't have been trusted to get an album of his own original material to release. I think the order and content of albums would have carried on exactly as it had. Brian would've been deflated (as he was) and order would've been resumed.

The only difference I can think of is from the fans. If many of us had heard the demos and never had it released then many of us would be bemoaning how the record company just didn't 'get' Brian and how it should've been given a chance and it could've been a new Pet Sounds (it would be nice to think that rather than the reality that many people just plain didn't like it)
