Sorry if this has been covered...

In the UK - I can see a 16 track deluxe for download from iTunes and Google. However, the physical version is 18 tracks - anyone know if the 18 track version is available for download anywhere in the UK?

 Cheers,

I think Brian and Zooey doing "Let's Put Our Hearts Together" would be great.

I love the way your mind works...yes! - also, solar system with a full band could be amazing....

Sweet Insanity should have been released - it's better than Brian's first solo effort.

I prefer BWPS to the released Smile a couple of years ago

Love You and Adult/Child are some of Brian's best work

Sunflower is boring

They could just mix the Paley songs and release them. Album done.

Yes! I still feel they are relevent tracks....

Failing that, I just want to hear Brian cut loose on some obscure and inaccessble stuff, I'm sure he's got loads to say about parenthood and expectations and alike.

Much appreciated sir!!

I would be at the front of that queue!! I dream of a Love You and unreleased Brian tour. Where he plays Love You in full in the first half and then goes through his best unreleased works in the second (adult/child, paley sessions, SI etc) full big band for some of the adult/child tracks...

Sigh....a boy can dream..,

On topic, I'm also after a hi-res image of the Love You LP cover. I want to make a canvas  Smokin

I don't know how unpopular this opinion is, but I'm sure someone will disagree: Brian's best 4 albums are Pet Sounds, SMiLE (either version), Love You, and That Lucky Old Sun. And I do consider Pet Sounds, SMiLE, and Love You all as much solo efforts as That Lucky Old Sun.

As for my reasoning, I think that those 4 albums in particular best represent Brian in all of his different stages and styles. And, for me at least, it's highly likely No Pier Pressure makes it a top 5.

I couldn't agree more! I would add adult/child as my 5th, the talent on display on all these albums is immense.

I'm not sure if I'm stealing this phrase as I've read so much but I feel the Love You, Adult/Child is like Rembrant drawing stick men. When coupled with his orchestral works it creates such a range.

VIP package just announced for US gigs ranging from $279 - $499.

Any idea if this will happen for the UK gigs?

Can anyone recommend any good reading (books, articles, anything really) surrounding the Love You, Adult/Child period? Cheers in advance :-)

Can't wait!
242  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Reviewing Adult/Child as an actual Beach Boys album on: February 22, 2015, 03:56:49 PM
I feel like bumping this old thread, hope that's ok ettiquet-wise:

I blummin love this album, I'll throw that out there straight away.

Beautifully uneaven, as Love You (which I also adore...), it's so honest and mixed up, almost like a playlist rather than a coherent album.

The mix I listen to is:

Life is for the living one of my fav tracks ever, and I mean ever, by anyone. Ticks all my personal boxes, such a great arrangement, like a musical. I really connect with this track.

Hey Little Tom Boy Jesus, this is an uncomfortable track. I really like the arrangement, very catchy, find myself singing segments then feeling bad. Realistically, a terrible song.

Deep Purple I just don't get this. I feel nothing. The vocal is nice, timbre-wise but very bland.

HELP is on the way great tune. Enemas?! Yes. I want to order that Radient Raddish top (
http://society6.com/product/radiant-radish_t-shirt#11=49&4=81). I haven't yet heard that Christmas track using the same tune. I'm trying to make a BW/BB compilation album of heath songs together lead by this.

It's over now Love this, lush arrangement. I'm a sucker for a good flute / French Horn part. Great lyrics.

Everybody wants to live just once  I mentioned I loved this album, right? What are awesome tune. Lyrics, melody, arrangment all brilliant, organ ending sublime.
The first verse of this song has to be one of  my favourite ever, what a different and crazy way lyrically to start a song.

Shortnin' Bread I drop this track into playlists all the time, I can't help but love it. I'm always reminded of the Alice Cooper ancedote and like to think of Brian obsessed with this track. Very comparable to Love You's 'Ding Dang'

Lines I really like this strange, strange song. On the surface it's really simple tune in every aspect but its so, I don't know - charming? Its this 'Daniel Johnston' side to BW I that I really connect with, personally.

On Broadway this is is a bit of a crazy inclusion. I like the song, but it totally doesn't belong here. I like the history behind it and can enjoy listening  to it but still jars the album a bit.

Games that two can play Really catchy with an uncomfortable sexual undertone… solid album filler

It's trying to Say I love this and I don't know why, it's a simple, singable romp. I find myself singing it loads, the 'Baseballs on' section is hypnotic, love the lyrics and it sums the album and BW period up quite well, musically and lyrically..Quite out there and yet so mainstream in many way. My life is better with this track in it.

Still I dream of it Quite simply, sublime, one of the best tracks ever. The first verse/chorus again is so memorable and poignant.  I simply could not hear this track enough.

So there is my completely detached analysis,. If it was released at the time? Almost a certain commercial 'meh' and with good reason. It's quirky, uneven, confused, almost unmarketable. Hardly the tick sheet of 'hit'. Lyrically and Musically I find this album so satisfying and honest. When paired with 'Love You' I think of it as the second best BB period overall  after 'Pet Sounds/SMiLE'.
243  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 'The Beach Boys' Live.... on: February 21, 2015, 01:29:48 PM
Alas....Sheffield, if anyone is meeting up for it though, I'd certainly be up for a chin-wag over a pint...

244  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 'The Beach Boys' Live.... on: February 21, 2015, 01:13:34 PM
Cheers for all your replies guys, it's nice to see a positive general concensus.

I am certainly going to try and go, it's just persuading the the missus (who likes to BB too, in  a less obsessive way) that £80 + babysitter + merch (gotta consider the merch!) is gonna fly.

Do people think that BW will hit the North of England on this 'fall tour' then? I would probably consider selling one of my kids for that one  Grin

245  Smiley Smile Stuff / Welcome to the Smiley Smile board / Re: Yet Another New Member on: February 21, 2015, 11:55:38 AM
I thought I'd hijack this thread rather than start a new one - starting two in a day seems a bit overkill, but thought it'd be nice to introduce myself:

I'm a Brian Wilson/Beach Boys fan from Sheffield, UK and it's all kinda new to me. I don't know why the story of BW resonates with me so much but I know why I like the music. Brought up with mainly classical music and discovering more popular music in my teens, I've also had a massive soft spot for barbershop quartets and the vocal harmonies within. Brian Wilsons compositions, for me, sit beautifully between classical and pop. For the last six months or so I've become an obsessive for everything Beach Boys and Brian Wilson and have spent many hours lurking on this board and have decided to get involved.

I knew of The Beach Boys through popular culture and have always been able to hum along to the early surf hits and most well known singles. I used to be given CD's of top 40 albums on MP3 by a friend of mine (tut-tut, I know...) on one CD was Pet Sounds, the album was an absolute breakthrough for me and I loved it, I played it to my friends to a very lukewarm response and so it receeded in my conciouness and I moved on. A few years later, when shopping, I saw the BWPS album and thought I'd purchase on impulse, having some vague recollection that it had been 'banned' or that it was 'rare' for some reason. I remember sitting in my then GF's bedroom listening to this amazing music and thinking how strange and beautiful it was (She thought it was 'weird'....we broke up soon after  Grin ) I then got hold of That Lucky Old Sun  and loved the music and thought that maybe Brian Wilson could be someone I really liked, musically. I then found a copy of Gettin' in over my head - I was underwhelmed - and apart from the odd track appearing on my playlists, Brian Wilson became just another artist in my music arsenal.

So, what happened six months ago? Truly I have no idea. For some reason I decided to revisit this music and something clicked, I've become hooked, I've got a lot of things going around my head in my personal life and the sheer escapism of the lyrics and arrangments have captured my heart. So, by most of your standards I am certainly a newbie, but I have been obsessive in my thirst for knowledge and material so I am fairly well-versed. I've listened at least once to every album (I think) and now own most of them. I'm not overally fussed on the early surf music, except some of the absolute classics but can appreciate the arrangments and the start of the journey. The albums I repeat and repeat are: Pet Sounds, Smile (all versions I can get my hands on), Love You, Adult/Child and That Lucky Old Sun. I am fascinated by the BW period of Love You and Adult/Child. I have seen pretty much every documentary on YouTube and a couple I've managed find elsewhere (I've found that 'I Just Wasn't Made for these Times' distills my love of BW perfectly), I've read the making of Pet Sounds and am currently close to finishing 'The Wilson Project' which is a great read!, Heros and Villians up next bookwise.

So, yeah, thanks for reading and I look forward to contributing to various discussions on these topics. Be gentle now...  LOL

Hey all, new member here, I'm sure this has been covered before so feel free to link me to another thread...

'The Beach Boys' (Mike, Bruce) are playing my hometown in May, fourty quid a pop. Of those of you who've been, is it worth it? I'm really more of a Brian Wilson fan and not overally flush with cash. I'm torn between saying 'I've seen the Beach Boys live' but don't want to waste my time if it's a bit like a tribute act (which I suspect it might feel like).

So, is it a good night?

For me, it's 'Midnights Another Day' - mainly for the line - 'All these people, make me feel so alone'

Like the song, love the video - the constant 'Ok' symbols from Brian make me smile.
