You're sort of right - I mean, Obamacare is a slight improvement on the previous US healthcare system which was barbaric but the US should employ an actual socialized medicare plan and eliminate big pharma and the medical industrial complex.

Freedom? When used like people like yourself, it is a mere buzzword with no real meaning. Better health? Most definitely. Better for the economy? Most definitely. Better for the American people in general? Most definitely.

I'm glad your "message to lefties" is this stupid. Which corporations? Which government? How do you account for the fact that in many cases corporations have more power than the government? So, in this case, for example, the government is prevented from negotiating drug prices which is one of the reasons why drugs are far more expensive in the US than in other countries in the industrialized world where the government has more control over healthcare.

No, they just exploit humans in order to profit off of their labor and toss them aside like chattel if they step out of line. In the case you outline, we can participate in a way that prevents such actions. In the case I outline, we can't, at least not without fundamentally altering and undermining the very structure of the corporation. This is why corporations are inherently tyrannical while governments aren't, which is why I can never accept your use of terms like "freedom" as being anything other than a trivial buzzword arbitrarily evoked to con people with genuine desires for some kind of real autonomy.

The government IS violence, period. The only way the government functions is using coercion (force, threats of force, etc.) to take individuals wealth (property, money). The government creates nothing at all, other than debt for the unborn.

[Folk'n'Roll]

I tried over at the Jan & Dean board, but didn't get any help with this.

Does anyone know if their albums, specifically Folk'n'Roll were mixed differently or if the mono is basically a stereo fold down? Its one of my favorites, but I find it unlistenable on headphones due to the "visual stereo." I was going to use music editing software to do a fold down, but only if it represents how the original album in mono would've sounded.

I know most Jan & dean albums have entirely different mono/stereo mixes, sometimes with different edits, instruments, and parts. My turntable is crapped out right now, so I can't do an A/B test. I would always tend toward mono for most things until at least 1967, especially with Jan since he had such crisp and tight mono mixes.

Is PLMW from the 2012 mix of Today!? It sounds a lot worse than the one released a few years ago.

I don't know, but I've always thought the stereo mix of PLMW sounded kinda out of sync, definitely too mid-rangy and the organ bass is almost inaudible. For some reason those mono mixes from 64-67 sound so fuckin full I think all the stereo mixes (except Pet Sounds) are way lacking.

Similar to the OP, for the fans who were around in 1988 (with many more years and many more changes in the band since 1972), were you looking at the possibility of a release as the band's finished, wholly-realized vision for the album, or more of an archival release meant to get the material out and generate some buzz for the group?  What do you think it would have meant to you, had you held that LP/cassette in your hands?

I imagined it would have been something like the Three album/2 cd Vigotone stuff that came out shortly after that...In other words I pictured all the usual songs, plus Can't Wait Too Long on 1 cd and maybe some alternates and sessions on another cd, but really I think I expected one cd...and i would have been psyched. I was in High School and I remember a guy who just thought the Beatles were the best and having some kind of official SMiLe cd would have helped my case (or a Pet Sounds cd for that matter).

Always was one of my favorite 60's sci-fi actors.

Yeah, back when the two-fers came out I remember having to wait a few months for each new set of cds. i think They released four cds (that's eight albums) at a time. Those were the days...

With help from Will C. Music Productions I am proud to announce the first of many study-videos that will explore the sound production techniques I used in the making of Beach Boy and other artists’ music. These studies also include examples of my favorite mastering techniques applied to finished works. I believe you will find they clarify the music and expand the presentation in the stereo panorama. However, this "privilege of study" can cease to be, if abused. 

The study-videos provided under password covenant involve the use of copyrighted material. Copyright “Fair Use” rules and regulations allow for study and examination of copyrighted material provided that certain requirements are met. Navigating the Fair Use regulations is a slippery slope and open to much interpretation, depending on each particular situation.

Openly posted copies of copyrighted works proliferate the Internet today. In most cases these postings remain unchallenged by the copyright holder, and thus seem to be setting a broader precedence for tolerance. However, I caution you to be vigilant. The studies I am providing are not for use by the general public and are not openly posted nor should be openly posted. I have placed all these studies behind a password and non-descriptive web-address for a reason. Please respect my request that anything protected behind a password remain within and must be confined to this study. They are not be copied or posted elsewhere, such as Youtube.com, or to become the subject of a bootleg copy. To do otherwise is to tempt and/or “push” the Fair Use doctrine to a point that may not be tolerable or allowed by the copyright holder, resulting in the forced removal of the study(s).

Well, I maintain my stance about insignificant questions...

I wrote this in another thread, but it seems to be focussed on interpersonal board relationship discussions at the moment.

I've already preordered Today, Summer Days and Smiley. I'm considering purchasing the earlier albums for the mono mixes, but I have a general question about them. Are there a lot of discernable and interesting differences between the mono and stereo mixes of those early Beach Boys songs? I'm thinking of the Beatles mixes, and how there are various edits, mistakes, and mixing decisions that pop out at you when you've heard the alternative mix many times. Is the early BB catalog at all like that when going from stereo to mono? Any insights you may have are welcome.

The Mono mixes are always my go-to since they (a) sound really punchy and tight and (b) they are the mixes BW made. Often they have longer fades and other slight edits. If you haven't given the mono early albums a listen then you have a lot to look forward to!

Teaching a Detective Fiction course in the Fall so I'm starting to get prepped for that. Currently reading Poe's Murders in the Rue Morgue. Next on the agenda will be a Doyle short story and an Agatha Christie novel. Actually, maybe you can take a look at my reading list I will be proposing and if any of you are detective fiction fans (I was just given the course and have no real background on the subject and have only done the most superficial research so far for the course), let me know if there is something that might be worthwhile putting on (I'm also thinking of a film, but I'm not sure which era to choose).

Must admit I never listened to Aerosmith, didn't yet get to them. From various interviews & ceremonies Mr. Tyler seems to be very nice human. Though what is the most fascinating is that of all The BBs albums he prefers Smiley Smile. As it is also known from Wiki, Pete Townshend & Robbie Robertson are another famous Smiley Smile fans.
