151  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / 10,000 Years on: April 05, 2010, 03:21:06 AM
Or 10,000 Years ago - or whatever...

Co-written by Mike and Dennis?  Initially pencilled in for 15 Big Ones?  Possibly fiddled with around the time of Bambu/LA because there's a music track from that era?  Mentioned again in connection to a possible Mike (or Mike and Al) album in 1980?  Recorded by Mike (again?) in the late 90s/early 2000s?

 What else do we know?

Thanks.

"I don't think Brian has enough "hits" his solo repertoire to put out a greatest hits compilation.2

Never bothered the music industry before.

Rickie's bald now. Law of averages, I guess.

Elton John - a major artist who sings worse than Brian!
156  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Light Album on: March 12, 2010, 10:36:49 AM
Has anyone got any great scans of the Light Album front and back that they'd care to post?  Or does anyone have any links to any already posted on the net?

While I'm on the scrounge, does anyone have any pictures of the BB from this peiod - preferably all six of them?

Thanks in advance.

"any song where mike adds in beach boys song titles in a nostalgic way e.g Brian's Back"

Oh yes.

Too many to choose from, but...
Problem Child
Make It Big
Match Point...
Summer of Love
California Calling
Everyone's In Love With You
Livin' With A Heartache
Sunshine
Here Comes the Night disco version
Island Fever

I'm excluding covers and what might be termed juvenilia.
159  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 'Do It Again' vs. 'It's OK' - Which Is Better? on: March 08, 2010, 10:29:47 AM
Do It Again - by such a distance it's laughable. Mike and Brian didn't just come up with a nostalgic song for the good old days of youth - albeit probably not theirs - the nostalgic lyrics are undercut by music that emotes a sense of loss.  Deceptively 'simple' but great song.

It's Okay has fairly sh*t lyrics and a fun feel.  Maybe if you compared it to Keepin' the Summer Alive...

Surely the Mexican vibe of H & V lends itself to that bass line anyway?

"I think Mike told Sean O'Hagan that all brits are fags. Which is definetly something you just shouldn't say to a person who's about to collaborate with you on a project, period, but I'd file it as another one of those 'jokes that bomb' that Mike loves to tell his audience."

To be honest, I suspected this was the case - undiplomatic humour.
162  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Carolyn Williams on: March 03, 2010, 11:44:42 PM
I know Mike should've been old enough to know better, but, of course, we have no idea how he said it...

Wasn't the Al allegation one of the things he took legal action against or did he sue because everyone was else did?!
163  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Yes, I DID just see the Al Jardine reference on SNL.... on: March 03, 2010, 01:01:25 PM
The shirt was a mistake?  Maybe if he'd got his tits out , back-combed his hair (wig?) and had a talent bypass, he would've been accepted. Aleisha Jardine?
164  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Carolyn Williams on: March 03, 2010, 12:59:19 PM
And, of course, there's Mike allegedly calling Sean O'Hagan a 'limey fag'...
165  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Carolyn Williams on: March 02, 2010, 11:43:51 PM
If that's what was said.  Remember Gaines going on about Dennis' fear of being raped by a black guy or the alleged homophobia of some band members towards Jack Rieley, yet they all seemed comfortbale with Curt Becher - and Christ knows, he can't have been the only gay they met in the entertainment industry. I've also read that it was Al, not Carl, who first admired Flame.  Geez, who knows any more?
166  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Maybe the Beach Boys have got you now.... on: March 01, 2010, 03:19:25 PM
He's one of the few artists from that era who's talked about going out to see Manson and I believe he pointed out that there were many more who thought Manson had some genuine talent but after the killings, preferred not to admit it.
167  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Yes, I DID just see the Al Jardine reference on SNL.... on: February 28, 2010, 02:28:22 AM
Al was the one who could sing, wasn't he?
168  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Dennis Wilson documentary to premiere in UK on Feb. 26th. on: February 28, 2010, 02:27:11 AM
Great documentary.  I loved the footage of Dennis in the studio but also that of David Marks and Stebbins and Marks and his mother. Is it in the Wouldn't It Be Nice documentary that Al says something along the lines of; "We didn't know how good Dennis was at the time"?  Would've been nice to include that.

I wonder who was interviewed who didn't make it to the final cut?

Great job one and all.

Mike's not on it?!  Oh no!  I hate it in that case!   Roll Eyes

"Dennis was the only one who surfed".  The only Wilson who surfed,  surely?
171  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: TLOS is really good. Really good. on: February 14, 2010, 02:27:31 AM
Post Holland, I like the live album, some of 15 Big Ones, Love You, a little of MIU, half of LA, all of POB, most of BW88, BWPS and about half of TLOS - I'm not over fond of Mexican Girl, California Role and Goin' Home

When I saw Mike and the boys last year, I have to admit that his vocals were the least impressive, especially on You're So Good to Me

"Dylanesque" usually means it's shite because it's not Dylan.
