Current top 10 would be ...

Pet Sounds
Sunflower
Surf's Up
All Summer Long
Pacific Ocean Blue
BWP SMiLE
20/20
Today
Concert (1974)
and ... wait for it ... Summer In Paradise !  Wink

I didn't realise that a person in the world would like both BW Smile and Summer in Paradise! One or the other, but not both.

I believe that the media can at times go on a wave of critisism on somebody and it becomes the cool thing to do. Or give high praise to somebody else. Of course I have never met any of the BBs personally, and perhaps a lot goes on behind the scenes that I am unaware of.
2880  Smiley Smile Stuff / 21st Century Beach Boys Albums / Re: Good Timin': Live At Knebworth 1980 on: April 08, 2007, 07:06:19 PM
This is really not a period of the BBs I'm a big fan on. But the fact that it is one of the last shows with all 6 members makes it above average. I gave it a 3.

I am a big dc talk fan, but I agree that this version of 'Help Me Rhonda' is not good. In fact I gave the whole album a 2.
2882  Smiley Smile Stuff / Tribute Albums / Re: Smiling Pets on: April 08, 2007, 07:02:18 PM
My only complaint is that they repeat songs. Having said that, it is my favorite BBs tribute.
2883  Smiley Smile Stuff / Other Solo Albums / Re: Looking Back With Love (ML solo) on: April 08, 2007, 06:55:16 PM
I'm tempted to give this a 1 or a 0 even though I've never heard it.

Mr Desper,
Did you work much with Jack Reilly? If so, what was he like to work with?

Forgive me if this has been discussed on here already, but I don't want to read through 81 pages to find out.

From all that I read about Dennis having a soft side (and I don't doubt it), I have seen some interviews where he comes across as a jerk. I have also read a lot about Mike being a jerk, but I he seems very polite in all of his interviews. I am not saying that this is an accurate dispription, but I just don't buy into everything positive Dennis and negative Mike. When it comes to the music, that's a different story. Dennis was light years better then Mike.

My favorite is the cover to Love You
2887  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1970's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Carl And The Passions- So Tough on: April 07, 2007, 10:19:24 AM
It is kind of strange how Dennis stuck out during Sunflower because his songs were funkier then the others (Slip On Through and Got to Know the Woman). Then the rest of the band get's funkier and he reverts to pretty songs. Wasn't there something Dennis did in 72 that would've been a better fit?
2888  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Had Brian gone to India with Mike in 1968... on: April 03, 2007, 11:08:25 PM
Here's another question. What would happen if Charlie Manson went to visit the Maharishi?
2889  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Had Brian gone to India with Mike in 1968... on: April 02, 2007, 10:10:32 AM
Brian would've gotten the Maharishi and all of the hippies there to sing 'Shortnen Bread' together.
2890  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: This has been on my mind for awhile on: April 02, 2007, 10:08:01 AM
I like to think of Brian as a cool head with warm heart.  Hey, not a bad title for a song, that...

Not to get on an off topic discussion, but I am a huge Marx Brothers fan!
2891  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: This has been on my mind for awhile on: March 31, 2007, 11:02:47 PM
Man, I feel dumb. I'm one of the biggest BBs fans in the world and I didn't recognize a lyric to 'I Get Around', one of their most famous songs.

I guess I'm dumb but I don't care.
2892  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: MIU again?!?! on: March 31, 2007, 02:42:20 PM
Love You is not cheesy....

You don't think songs like 'Solar System', 'Roller Skatin Child', 'Ding Dang', 'Honkin Down the Highway' and 'Love is a Woman' are cheesy?  Maybe cheesy is not the right word.  I love these songs, but they aren't a very mature sound. Odd, yes, but child like. Most of the Friends album is like this as well.

But there is a difference between good cheesy/simple/child like, and bad cheesy/simple/child like. Some that IMO are bad would be 'Its Ok', 'She's Got Rhythm', 'Pitter Patter' and 'Kona Coast'. But I like 'Match Point' and 'Hey Little Tomboy'.
2893  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian, Denny & Carl Photo on: March 31, 2007, 02:31:37 PM
I don't have it, but my favorite picture of the three brothers was either late 70s or eary 80s with Dennis in the middle and his arms around his two brothers. Brian was still in decent shape with a long beard. I think this might have also been a low point for Carl. Does anyone know what picture I'm talking about?

This one?

Actually, that's not the one I'm thinking of. If I figure out how to post it, I will. The one I'm thinking of is a few years prior to this. Dennis wasn't quite this tore up.
2894  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Question for AGD on: March 27, 2007, 09:10:32 PM
I kind of disagree with era styled recordings always being bad. I think that there are some very good 80s sound songs. I happen to enjoy songs like 'Safety Dance', 'Our House', 'Cars', 'Rock Lobster' and many of the new wave era songs are very good. I wouldn't say I am a big fan of the 80s cliche procucing style, but some people new how to produce it well. I could say the same about any production era style.

Do I make any sense or is it just Van Dyke giberish?
2895  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian, Denny & Carl Photo on: March 27, 2007, 08:52:47 PM
I believe I saw it on one of the BW live dvds. I think he was singing 'Lay Down Burden' or one of the newer songs in tribute to his two brothers and there were pictures of Carl and Dennis popping up in the backround. The one I mentioned was one of them.
2896  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: MIU again?!?! on: March 27, 2007, 08:48:28 PM
I think that LA Light was the 'hippest' album they did since 'Holland'. However, it is quite boring, where as Holland is very interesting. When I say hip, I mean that it isn't childish and cheesy (except for Shortnen Bread). Love You is very childish and cheesy, but I love it.
2897  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike Love lyrics on: March 27, 2007, 08:28:13 PM
My worst would be Hey Little Tomboy. Brian wrote the lyric but Mike sang it. Does that count? Razz

I actually like the lyrics of that song. Not very poetic, but humorous.

Big Sur is my favorite Mike Love song. I love the music and the lyrics. In fact its one of my favorite BBs songs. Most of the lyrics he did from 15 Big Ones and after sucked.

I do find it quite odd that Dennis used Mike Love more then any other Beach Boy for lyrics. Didn't they hate each other?

I am not suprised at the results thus far.

I wouldn't want anything to do with the BBs on American Idol. That show isn't worthy. Let them do Beatles songs on that show.

Obviously, I'm not a fan of the show at all. Therefore, I won't leave a post on this topic.
