What about Adult Childhood?

I think one of the best vocals Brian has put down in the last 30 years was the 95 version of Love and Mercy on IJWMFTT documentary/album. In fact, his singing on the whole documentary was pretty emotive.

Now that's a cool picture. I wish Brian would've done Smile live in a sandbox!

Also on the Smile album there were moments humor and sound effects. Vegetables had all 3 with humorous lyrics about health and sound effects of chomping carrots.

I've heard people debate on who is singing "Turn around and raise em baby, that's all there is to the coast line craze..." on CAW. Some thought Mike, others Dennis. I wonder if Dennis was singing with Mike on that.

I was convinced it was Dennis, until I hard the session tapes. That's Mike, with a really bad cold. Same for "Hawaii". But yeah - it does sound awfully like Dennis.

That's what I thought. I just wasn't sure if mabye Dennis overdubbed or something.

I read somewhere that the common thing in the early 60s was to use an echo effect in the studio. But when Brian discovered doubling he liked that a whole lot better.

I wonder how much the BBs doubled the lead with 2 different singers. I know that Brian sang with Dennis on In th Back of My Mind.

I wonder if he was recording Vegetables when he had that idea. I know that it was for Smile, but it could've been during that 'fitness' faze.
2833  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: My suggestion For The Next BB Release (Alan, Mark etc.) on: June 06, 2007, 03:28:18 PM
I would love to hear some original Brian Wilson songs/productions with Mike, Al, Bruce, Dave or even Blondie or Ricky singing on it. I think that the Gettin in Over My Head album, as far as producing and song writing was excellent. Unfortunately, its hard to listen to Brian singing lead for 45 miniutes. Another idea would be for Brian to get 2nd generation BBs or girls to sing the songs.

I always thought it was Barry White.  3D

By the way, it was at a store in Dallas called Good Records which is owned by Tim DeLaughter, the founding member of Tripping Daisy and the Pollyphonic Spree. Lots of great stuff there, for anybody in north Texas.

I don't know for sure, but it looks too nice to be an original. Probably new.
2837  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / I found an unopened 'Flame' LP!! on: June 03, 2007, 04:50:46 PM
I couldn't believe it. I wasn't even looking for it. There is some very good stuff on there. I don't know if they had more then one album or not, but it is a self titled album and includes the original 'Don't Worry Bill'. It was $24.99. I also saw the record version of Brian's Smile album.

I know about it now. I don't even know who Patti Dahlstrom is. They were in a 'long' affair from 67-68? Well, I suppose for a rock star that is an eternity.
2839  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys and politics on: June 02, 2007, 03:16:13 PM
I guess you could say that I am liberal when it comes to art and music. I really enjoy the underground progressive music that is done fully for creativity. I will say the same for indie movies. For the most part, I don't care for the performers that are on the latest money making style of the time like the American Idol garbage.

I do have one question though. What is an older philosophy? Communism/socialism or Capitolism/free markets?  In other words, what makes one more proggressive then the other?
2840  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys and politics on: June 01, 2007, 10:20:51 PM
I consider myself a conservative, but I respect everyone elses views. I have watched some Michael Moore films with an open mind only to be even more convinced to the political right. Smiley

Anyways, I did not start this thread to see which BBs I would like more or side with. It's just another interesting thing to know about them.

Now it seems that if you take all the BBs and add them together and divide to get the average, you end up with a right leaning group. Which makes some sense considering that the subject of most of their (hit) songs are about capitolistic Americana (fancy cars, surfin, having fun, etc)
2841  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Stebbins to Write 5 More Beach Boy Books on: May 31, 2007, 10:57:26 PM
Murray Wilson...the abusive father of the Beach Boys

Wilson Phillips...the daughter's of a Beach Boy who didn't inherit their father's talent

Van Dyke Parks...the lyracist whom the official Beach Boys didn't understand

Well mr Stebbins, looks like you've got a lot of work to do. LOL!
2842  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Stebbins to Write 5 More Beach Boy Books on: May 31, 2007, 10:52:50 PM
The title of this thread is my wife's worst nightmare.

Just FYI...if anybody wondered while having fun with title possibilities...
My first book was to be titled "Fast Life" the Dennis Wilson story, but the publisher had another idea... "Dennis Wilson - The Real Beach Boy". I was okay with that.

The new book is "The Lost Beach Boy"...it does not have Dave's name as part of the title.

Okay...back to the fun.
Blondie and Ricky - The Flaming Beach Boys

I know they were in a band called the Flame, but that sounds gay. Is there something I don't know? Smiley
2843  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys and politics on: May 31, 2007, 10:49:18 PM
This is all very interesting. The thing I find the most shocking is that, from what I've heard on here, is that Dennis was quite conservative. I never would've guessed that.

There hasn't been much on Dave Marks or Glen Cambell, but if I were to make a guess, Glen is a Country music republican (of course there's always Willie Nelson and others), and Dave I could see either way. Maybe his book will clear that up. Maybe not.
2844  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Beach Boys and politics on: May 29, 2007, 09:50:52 PM
I am just curious what each of the Beach Boys political leanings are. I know that Bruce Johnston is a Republican since I saw him waving a George W Bush hat at a concert in Dallas. What about the rest? Including Blondie, Ricky, Glen and Dave.
2845  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Beach Boys and politics on: May 29, 2007, 09:47:34 PM
Does anybody know what the politcal party (leanings) are of each of the Beach Boys? I have heard that of the two factions, the Wilson faction was liberal and the Love/Jardine was conservative, but that just may have been concerning the band and musical direction. I did see Bruce Johnston waving a George W Bush hat at a concert in Dallas, TX so I guess that answers one.

Brian Wilson ?
Dennis Wilson ?
Carl Wilson ?
Mike Love ?
Al Jardine ?
Bruce Johnston - Republican
Dave Marks ?
Blondie Chaplin ?
Ricky Fattar ?
Glen Cambell ?

If I can figure out how to put a picture on this thing I will. Let's just say that someone told me I look like Mike Love circa 1966.

Dallas, Texas

born here and I'll die here. I'm almost positive of that.
How far is that from Arlen???!! King of the Hill is my favorite T.V. show, I'll tell you what!! They've played Wouldn't It Be Nice and Fun Fun Fun before.

Haha, well...I actually live in Arlington, but I say 'Dallas' because that's about the only thing people recognize. We here in Arlington say that 'Arlen' or whatever is based on us (since there is no REAL Arlen). We even have an 'Arlen Hotel' or something like that in old downtown. We're pathetic.

Actually, Arlington is where everything is! Six Flags, Hurricane Harbor, Rangers, soon the Cowboys, etc...

My name is Rob. I am a "long tall Texan', but I don't have a big white horse. I was actually born in Los Angelos, CA. My dad was a surfer, but I was only 4 when we moved so instead of surfing I took up basketball, baseball, etc.

Thank you very much. I haven't heard much of Buffalo Springield obviously, but I'll chech em out.
