That's fine. Knock yourself out, man. I'm just not into fraudulent acts that call themselves something they're obviously not. "Why go out for a hamburger, when you can have steak at Brian's shows?" By the way, didn't you just recently become a fan? Just wonderin'.

I'm so grateful that he wasn't at the show I saw this summer. I couldn't have tolerated it. It's hard enough watching mike's antics; having Stamos there would have been intolerable. Thank goodness we got David Marks instead. I loathe Stamos for pretending to be a Beach Boy.
But, I ask, why were you there in the first place? Why would you want to see a watered down tribute band when Brian's superb band is currently touring with absolutely no chance of seeing myKe luHv or the fake BB Staymohs on his stage?

Consider a hypothetical: You're a well known musician. You've been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder by a team of more than qualified doctors. You have a long history of depression and anxiety. You're emotionally fragile. But you're currently being treated for these issues by these more than qualified doctors. You have an old friend/collaborator who wants to meet up and work with you on some new songs. This old friend, through the media, has recently told the world that you're "controlled" by prescription medications. This old friend has recently told the world that you're overweight, out of shape, and that you don't pay much attention. Your old friend openly says he loves your musical abilities but then he doesn't openly support/comment on the recent work you did without him (and even seemingly passes judgement about your production style on that music, which he hasn't heard). This old friend has recently sued you for putting the name of your former band on a freebie CD for fans. This old friend also sued another old bandmate of yours for identifying himself as a former member of that band in promotions for his solo tour.
Again, you've been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, you have a long history of depression and anxiety, you are emotionally fragile...But you are currently being treated for these issues. Would your doctors recommend that you hang out with this old friend? Would your loved ones be thrilled about you hanging out with this old friend? Would you yourself want to hang out with this old friend?
The answer is pretty obvious, but I'm sure some people here will refuse to see the light. No, it would probably be recommended that you don't see this old friend. You yourself would probably not want to see this person...or at least work with him in close capacity.
Of course, looking at this in the logical way that I've written above labels you as someone looking for a villain. You're a "Brianista", you're "digging a hole". Thankfully the rest of us not living in a Rod Serling script can see the obvious.
TL;DR if I was being treated for schizoaffective disorder and a lifetime of depression and anxiety, I'd probably shy away from hanging out with someone who recently told thousands (potentially millions) of people that I'm overweight and controlled.
Stellar post, Rab. Hoping everyone reads and understands this, but the "old friend" sadly won't-probably- unless someone posts this on his facebook page and even then, would consider it "toxic".

My first BB MB, back in 1998, was the American Band board, which opened a whole new level of fandom to me. That just seemed to wither, and l moved on to the Cab, which was another level. That died because the owner lost interest. Wound up here via Ego and others. Thing is, some withered, others were killed from within. SS could be taking the latter route: of late, several folk have used the term "toxic" to describe this forum, and that includes more than two of the band. There's a host of good, good folk here making important contributions, and significant original research has resulted. Then there's the trolls, malcontents and general bottom feeders, who do none of this, being content to disrupt for the sake of disruptings sake. Sad.
For so many reasons you are the most toxic person on this board. -think that says it all. POST OF THE DECADE, good work, Woodstock!! You are the man!

Oh, let's see," most recently", "Alone On Christmas Day" for an appetizer, to be followed by the hollow "Pisces Brothers", and the mundane "Daybreak Over The Ocean". Shall I go on? Ok, if you insist. "SUEmahaminah", "Everyone's In Luhv With Me", er, uh, I mean You. And the ever lovin trainwreck that is the whole of "Summer in Paradise".

Based on myKe's outrageously overwhelming ego, not much would change. He'd still call himself The Beach Boys primarily due to the fact that Bruce could come and go due to his low profile status in the touring band and the average ticket holder could care less. If he joined Brian's stellar band, it would absolutely be on the understanding that he curtail his clapping and myKe adjusting.

With the exception of the vapid crooning and inane lyrics of DOTO, TWGMTR would seem to be a natural fit for any BB collection if only for the last three tracks.
"Daybreak" isn't even the worst song on the album. Yeah it's a pretty rotten song but it's still better than Spring Vacation Private Life of Bill & Sue Beaches in Mind and (shudder) Shelter. Well, then shudder away. PLOBAS and Shelter are two fine songs that never get the "skip" option. BIM and SV are passable but DOTO is a total misfit. If anything, it would fit far better on any of myKe's wonderful solo outings. HMMMM.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3DBM4WX_noI'd say that recording was a solid attempt at Yacht Rock if the yacht were an abandoned one-man canoe stuck on a rock in a local stream during a drought.

I'd say 63-73 is the essential Beach Boys period. Things were never the same after that but there's still plenty of good stuff post Holland mixed in with the dross. The only two albums I've never bothered buying are Stars & Stripes and That's Why God Made the Radio.
So, you bought SIP but not TWGMTR ? Yep. The only song I really liked off TWGMTR was the title track, so I just bought the download for that. You didn't like "Summer's Gone"? It's ok, a bit on the dreary side. Yeah, too bad it's not about a hamburger stand or a drive in movie. But "...It's ok?" Huh Well, then, it is true, you don't care for Brian Wilson very much, do you?

"Daybreak" isn't even the worst song on the album. Uh, yes it is. Labeling it as obligatory filler would be far too generous and complimentary for something as insipidly boring as that particular attempt at a song. OSD - what about Think About the Days? And, I like first three the best on that CD. TWGMTR tells the story of how we had that transistor, all the time...almost as an appendage...all those 9volt batteries! TATD somewhat has the same purpose as Our Prayer-think of it as an intro as to what lies ahead, if you will. And, yes, the transistor radio was a kind of appendage come to think of it. Certainly a progenitor of the smart phone.

Had the pleasure of seeing Brian's show in San Francisco last night. One thing that jumped out at me is how much more piano playing Brian is doing nowadays onstage compared to what I have witnessed in years past. In addition to numerous other songs, Brian was very clearly audible as the only piano/keyboard type instrument on In My Room, and could also be heard clearly on Surfer Girl. From my unique vantage point at the side terrace, it was clear as day visibly too.
Let this put to rest any doubters who think Brian doesn't contribute instrumentally to his shows - he certainly does!
Thank you for that report. As far as I know, there is only one member of the band that clearly contributed very few chops instrumentally.
