1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Falls during Concert on: November 17, 2016, 08:17:10 AM
Who is Brian Falls?

I think he is a psychiatrist that travels with the band.

Brother of the famous sisters, Niagara and Betty Falls

I find the RR hall of fame so watered down now. Only a handful of nominees warrant nomination let alone induction. It's been like that for at least a decade if not longer. Sad

I have seen both bands several times. IMHO, Brian's band is far superior to the M&B group referred occasionally as the Beach Boys.
That is not to say that Mike's version is not entertaining. They are both superlative bands however BW's is much better

Forgetting live performances for the moment, isn't Surfin Safary and 409 sped up a bit?
5  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Jan and Dean book by Mark A. Moore! on: April 08, 2016, 10:53:28 AM
Jan & Dean were all about satire in the 60s... riding a wave that Zappa later perfected.

A taste of it from their unreleased 1966 FILET OF SOUL LP rejected by Liberty.  It was produced as a send-up of live albums.  An edited version was featured on the 1972 Anthology album (side 4).

It begins 50:06 into this video...

I have that one....it's truly hilarious

Say what you may about Landy (and there is indeed much negative aspects to him), however I wonder if Brian would still be blessing our world with his presence without Landy.
7  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Have your heard Fendertones, BB covers band on: February 20, 2016, 05:23:03 PM
There are so many of them...perhaps it isn't feasible for them to do concerts.
Hey, if you guys are interested let me be your Canadian booking agent. I could make us all a bundle

They don't seem to want to tour though. They seem to just do the odd concert for charity.
Bit of a shame really. I guess that most of them have good day jobs and are uninterested in doing concerts.

I have been a fan of these guys for a long time. There are many videos out there. I believe that the falsetto guy once performed with Brian's band as an emergency fill in for Fossett or young Jardine at a concert in the Palm Springs area a few years ago

Rocky, do you recall where you lived when you played with the Als in Montreal?

Is the falsetto Brian's ? I read somewhere that it was Andrew Gold. I can't for the life of me remember where I read it. Perhaps here

Thank you, Stephen and all the others voicing decent attitudes

Excellent work, Rab. Brian would flip over this
15  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Rocky Pamplin book about The Beach Boys? on: November 12, 2015, 10:50:11 PM
Just noticed that Pamplin played for my hometown team, the Montreal Allouettes of the CFL.. Don't recall him at all

Good version of a lousy song. Never cared for the song itself. Very blah.

I blame Oswald for this but there are indications that someone was behind a fence on a grassy hillside. Then again it could be Jack Ruby

Yes indeed, welcome Mark. I love your work. Thank you.
Dave's new release doesn't seem to be available on Apple. Wish that it was.

I'm miceophonic.
(Capable of hearing mice with soar throats from long distances)
20  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Carl Wilson biography due September 29th on: October 24, 2015, 11:15:27 AM
I downloaded it off of Apple. I've read about a third of it. I will give it a full read before commenting fully however, I tend to agree with many of the comments so far.
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: How infamous was Murry in his own lifetime? on: October 22, 2015, 09:38:03 PM
That info is not new to that book, Timothy white discussed murry's family history at length in his book
The author of the Carl book does quote the previous source in his book. I just started reading it this afternoon

No bass?
23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Name One Song You'd Wish The BBs Should Have Covered on: October 06, 2015, 11:29:10 PM
I have always wondered what a BB version of Surf City would have sounded like if it had been recoded by them back in the day
24  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The selling of the SOT catalogue on: October 06, 2015, 11:26:14 PM
My opinion, based on nothing more than my brain, is that Murry probably did genuinely think that they were at their highest price. Nostalgia sales is a relatively new thing (obviously, if you think about it) and the Endless Summer record was one of the first examples of retro-selling pretty much rescuing a still performing and writing band's career.

As for keeping all the money........I reckon spite probably had a fair bit to do with that....

Not to mention almost certainly forging Brian's signature on the documents.

It's really terrible that the sale couldn't be contested because of that.

I believe that it was by Brian several years later
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Love & Mercy Blu-Ray/DVD Official thread on: September 15, 2015, 10:45:47 PM
Great review. By the way, the blue ray is on sale at best buy for 16.99$. I purchased a copy today at the Palm Springs, Ca location.
