651  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / The Queers on: May 01, 2007, 05:41:38 PM
is anyone here familar with the punk rock band the Queers? if you dig the Ramones you'd love this band. I've never heard anyone do a better Beach Boys cover than the Queers too; great renditions of 'Hawaii', 'Don't Back Down', 'Salt Lake City', and 'Little Honda'

652  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Dennis & his drums on: May 01, 2007, 05:25:04 PM
I've been trying to clarify this for the longest time... What drums and cymbals did Dennis use in his career? I believe he started out with Gretsch, them mostly used Camco and Rogers throughout the 60s; then moved to a clear Zickos kit in the 70s; then a black Pearl kit in his last years. Can someone please elaborate on this for me and tell me what colors the drums were, what brands he prefered and what cymbals he used as well...?

653  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: MIU again?!?! on: January 25, 2007, 08:06:08 AM
The MIU Album as a whole I think is a very decent album. And as mentioned before it was way better than the LA Light Album and Keepin' the Summer Alive. Yeah it did pretty shitty commercially but who cares, the Beach Boys weren't getting very good promotion from Reprise and the climate of pop music at that time was pretty fucking lame anyway. The two covers on the album are magnificent, and all the other songs were very well produced. I think Al Jardine did a good job on that album, considering it was the only Beach Boys album he was given production credit to.

Maybe I wasn't alive to see the Beach Boys in their heyday but I am very familiar with their entire catalog and this is for the most part is the last album they really ever did. It doesn't make any fucking sense to me how so many supposed Beach Boys fans can be so critical; yeah this album isn't essential and yeah there was no involvement from Brian Wilson but it's still a Beach Boys album. Now to be completly honest this album does suck compared to any album they did from '62 through '72, and yes albums that followed that weren't so strong but they were still decent. Summer In Paradise as a whole wasn't much of a comeback and it would have helped greatly if Brian was involved but as a Beach Boys fan I still like the album, maybe it's not something I can really explain in detail but I guess that's just something for me to know...
