Long-time wish this. Top o' the wish list.
And if they don't release all of the concerts recorded of "In Concert", a collection one version of each song played on those tours would be nice, including "River Song", "Here She Comes", "You Need A Mess Of Help To Stand Alone", and any other rarities.

Very underrated engineer/producer thats for sure. My beach & locals only are killer albums.
I didn't realize that was Daryl Dragon in the car on the Marcella sleeve. I know he said they had taken some photos of him with the group before Holland was released and he felt like they were trying to push him into an official role in the group.

I took that picture of Toni Tennille , they are on the stage at the University of Georgia in Athens GA! I also saw her the first time at Georgia Tech in 72! I think she is in the background on a pic I took there.
Do you happen to have a digital copy of the other photograph?

Any info on him or pics with the beach boys?
I freakin love his synthesizer solo at the end of the live version of Surfs Up in 74.
We need to kickstart a petition to get those late 60s early 70s concerts out and into our CD collection.
I would love to have all of the concerts recorded in 72 and 73 for "In Concert" to be released.

Does anyone have any photos of Toni Tennille onstage when she was touring with the Beach Boys? I know there was one photo in the "In Concert" book, but I have yet to locate any online that I save for my own collection.

I noticed while watching "Endless Harmony" that there appears to be professional shot footage of an outdoor concert, probably sometime in late 72 or 73. The band's performing "Sail On Sailor". Does anyone know exactly when and where this concert took place and if the entire concert was filmed?

According to The Beach Boys In Concert book, "You Still Believe In Me", "Funky Pretty" and "Surfin' USA" were recorded August 31, 1973. Perhaps Ian or Jon has a recording date for "Fun, Fun, Fun."
Thanks. I overlooked those. How would I contact them to ask?

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Help with "In Concert" LP
|
on: June 30, 2015, 05:31:30 PM

I'm trying to compile a list of each track from the "In Concert" album with the date of the recording and the location. Thanks to the book "The Beach Boys In Concert" (Rusten/Stebbins), I've found the information for all of the tracks except the following:
You Still Believe In Me Funky Pretty Surfin' USA Fun, Fun, Fun
Does anyone know the dates and locations in which those tracks were recorded that were used on the album?
Thanks!!!

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Saw the Beach Boys tonight

I saw the Beach Boys tonight in Charleston, WV. It was great concert. My favorite part of was "God Only Knows". Before the song, Mike Love made the statement "No one sings this song like Carl Wilson, so why try?" They used the same video and vocal track that was used on the 50th anniversary tour. The last time Carl came to Charleston with the group was in 1986. I was only 3 years old then, so this was a cool experience.
I also got to meet Mike, Bruce, Jeff, and Scott. I can't say enough about Bruce. What a classy fella! He came over and talked to us 4 different times before the sound check. He took pictures and signed autographs for anyone who want one. At one point, one of the security guards tried to make us leave. Bruce said "Hey man. These are my fans. It's cool." Mike didn't come off the bus until just minutes before the concert started. He said he would be back after the show. I could tell he was in hurry to get on the bus after the show (can't blame him) and he tried to get to as many people as he could.

A few years ago, someone on this board posted a link to a stock footage clip that absolutely fascinated me. In the clip, you see the band jamming in an empty auditorium in the early 70s. Unfortunately, there's no sound. Personnel was as follows:
Ricky on electric guitar Ed Carter on electric guitar Carl on bass guitar Daryl Dragon on keyboards Blondie on the drum kit
I believe Blondie played a bit of drums & piano with the Flame & also on his solo album.
Is that clip still available? Would love to see it.

Well, the song was played in Uniondale in August of 1973. The gig was also recorded for the In Concert album. Maybe one day...
I would love for good quality recordings of some of those concerts to be officially released and include songs like "River Song". I also like "Here She Comes" but the only live version I could find is from Boston and the quality is bad.

"River Song" is one of my favorite pieces by Dennis. I recently found a BB bootleg that contained a live version of the song from 1973. It sounds like Blondie singing lead. Can anyone confirm this or know anything about it?
Thanks.
Yup - it was played live at several shows in 1973, and there was a TV clip of the band recording it in the studio. I believe this is said version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJeHcHzGyZQIs it Blondie? Sounds like Dennis to me. The live version sounds a lot like Blondie to me.
