Some nice sounding clips on You Tube of last nights performance in front of 30,000 plus in Montreal.
This article says that Mike made a joke about there being no Trump in Canada. Then again, it also describes Pisces Brother as a "superb" song, so maybe we should take it with a grain of salt. https://m.quebec.huffingtonpost.ca/2018/07/24/the-beach-boys-surfer-habilement-sur-la-vague-des-belles-annees_a_23488355/One more comment: they HAVE to stop doing the schtick with bringing girls up on stage to dance during Barbara Ann. Especially when Totten plays guitar while it's being held by a hot girl...come on, it's 2018. This is cheesy and embarrassing and sexist. Well i sure wouldn't mind if a gorgeous girl joined me onstage for a song every night. But if it would make you happy, we could have a good looking guy join Scott for the solo some nights. Nothing to do with guys or girls. It’s tacky and it’s continued moves like this since the 80s that keep the BB as B list entertainers on the party / state fair route when their musical output matches the A listers. Some fans are fine with that others are not.

My thoughts? Probably 30 years too late. Now back in the late 80's, I think the play would have been Kokomo time shares. The timeshare market was growing. Ironically, just yesterday on another board someone was mentioning that, at the time people were filing into travel agencies looking to fly to Kokomo! Creating Caribbean Kokomo destinations may have been temporarily lucrative, with an exit strategy of going public or getting swallowed up by a bigger resort chain. Brother Stephen was long gone by then, but he could have made this work.
Mike and Jimmy would have talked at the Capitol 4th event. But Buffetts success can't be duplicated. The Beach Boys brand doesn't have Parrotheads or Kiss Army followers that will shell out for any conceivable type of merchandise. It's actually probably the opposite. A divided fan base, half of whom loathe anything associated with Michael
And Steve would have skimmed the profits off the top for sure.

So they flew in Dennis but not Carl that’s interesting .
Too bad they only do it for DYWD. There are so many cool songs with Dennis . Instead they keep choosing the one he never sang after 1966. But I guess that’s how Mike views Dennis’. The drummer they brought out to sing one song a show .

I have been pleasantly surprised by some of the tracks on the album. This one, Here Today, Heroes. I am definitely more intrigued after reading the ESQ article.
Also, did you know Kokomo is on the album? Did you know it was their biggest number one hit? Mike never fails to mention that and certainly is all about it in the ESQ piece. His Kokomoization of the BB never ceases to amaze me.

I've heard the entire KTSA album except for Oh Darlin and Some of Your Love. Goin On at least 7 times. Heard a lot of '85 too. I seem to catch a lot of Dance Dance Dance and Please Let Me Wonder. Cal. Girls was the last big hit I had yet to catch, got it this afternoon.
I haven't heard the BB California Saga but have heard Al's several times.

Love it! Never knowing what's next. Ive been listening on and off all weekend. I've heard Please Let Me Wonder 5 times, Goin On 4, and Games Two Can Play 3 but haven't heard California Girls or Help Me Rhonda yet. I love that! Already had several friends comment they had no idea the BB did all this stuff. I haven't heard a ton of live stuff, would like more of that. Only Graduation Day from Concert, Caroline No from 73, and Little Honda and Shut Down from Chicago 65.

Scott has absolutely saved Mike's band and career. Mike needs someone to tell him what they are going to do and how in a strong way , because if it's up to Mike without a strong musical director, the band would never rehearse because Mike hates rehearsing and you get 1981/1999 esque performances.

I think Mike's front man routine was essential in the early years because the rest of the band just didn't have it socially or was too shy to actually talk. They had little stage presence except for Mike They still didn't have much and boy by 67 Mike's shtick got old fast which makes the banter in those late 60s show just completely cringeworthy. Bruce and Dennis stepped it up by the 70s and there was no need for Mike to be a frontman as the music filled more of the void. Mike wa awful then too. He hit a second stride in about 76-80 when they did the arena rock and is listenable and then the shtick just got tired and old since the early 80s
The cheerleaders began as a way to feature local schools. Al mentions this in the Goldmine article and you can see it done in the 88 Arizona concert. At some point that changed to a permanent hiring and an ever increasing roll. Eventually, they had to plan the set list around their costume changes. They never should have lasted that long.
