Summer in Paradise was the first Beach Boys album that I bought. I was a teenger (don't know how old, maybe 17 or so) and I really liked the album except for a few songs. I really hated Hot Fun, Surfin', Remember Walking in the Sand and Under the Boardwalk. The other songs, even Summer of Love, weren't too bad. From today's point of view the production is really terrible and the songs and arrangements are badly executed. But I still listen to it from time to time and have good time.

folk-era Chumbawamba are probably even better than The Beach Boys. These last three albums are so amazing.

then pop punk bands like Zatopeks, Masked Intruder, Travoltas, Mr T Experience, Ruth's Hat.

Honeyrider - You made me hate The Beach Boys (well, at least they have them in the title)

First of all, sorry for the reanimation of this old thread. I've been looking at the Smiley Smile board for a few years, but just joined a few days ago.

When I saw this thread when it came up, I wanted to contribute a song. It's actually my band The Barbecuties. We play pop punk and I wrote a song about Brian called The Life Of Brian. Here we go

I voted for the suite, because the last few songs on Thats Why God Made The Radio are wonderful and perfect. So, this is what I hope for. But I'm also looking forward to the duet with Lana Del Rey, because I love her music and especially her voice.

84  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: For a band with so much in the vaults, why so much filler? on: August 19, 2014, 11:05:20 AM
Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Remember, for a long time the group was churning out 2, sometimes 3, albums a year; the sheer pace of their output probably had as much to do with it as anything.

I think this is pretty much the reason. But what I don't understand are these stupid unlistenable Recording Sessions that they released. I much rather listen to a filler song than this.
85  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: My Very First Beach Boys Release on: August 19, 2014, 10:54:55 AM

My first Beach Boys cd was a 2cd set The Look Behind Collection. I really loved a lot of songs. The songs on cd2 were actually pretty terrible sound quality, like lp rips or something. I really loved Heroes and Villains and Fun Fun Fun.
My first real Beach Boys album was Summer in Paradise. I was at a second hand store and they had Surf's Up and Summer in Paradise. Guess which one I picked? You're right. But I really loved SIP except for a few songs (Hot Fun..., Surfin', Under the Boardwalk, Remember Walking in the Sand are pretty terrible).
After that came the Friends-20/20 Twofer and I was so hooked

Welcome Rüdige! It doesn't matter if you don't have anything new to say, I sure as hell don't. Most topics have been covered. But the story of the Beach Boys continues and so does our fandom. Have fun sharing your love for the Beach Boys with us! Hey, I too have been in punk bands (it's how I spent most of my teens and 20s). One of my old punk bands did a Ramones-sounding version of Shut Down. I think we shortened the song to about one minute 25 seconds. We were lucky enough to open for The Damned (!!).

Welcome aboard!

Thanks and that's so cool that you opened for the Damned

Out of the bands mentioned above the Ramones. But otherwise The Mr T Experience, Zatopeks, Masked Intruder, The Queers, Bracket and so on. Bracket's album Requiem has some crazy Beatles and Beach Boys influenced song.  But not the surf/beat BB/Beatles, but more the psychedelic weird stuff.
88  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: mentioned before, but who was a fan of the Surf Punks? on: August 18, 2014, 10:12:03 AM
I only know the My Beach album. It's pretty funny from time to time, but nothing I can listen to very often. THE BEACH IS NOTHING BUT A BIRD BATHROOM!

Hi folks,

my name is Rüdiger and I love The Beach Boys. I have been lurking the forum for quite a few years, but finally decided to join. I live in Mannheim in Germany and have been a Beach Boys fan since my teenage years (started with Fun Fun Fun, Barbara Ann and Surfin' USA). Then I fell in love with the rest of their music.

Other music that I love includes pop punk, power pop, surf music (instrumental and vocal), Beach Boys rip off bands (Explorers Club etc.). I also play in a pop punk band and we have a huge Beach Boys influence, too. I even wrote a song about Brian.

So I'm looking forward to read and write about The Beach Boys. But I have to warn you, I probably won't have that many new or interesting things to say.

So long ,
Rüdiger
