52  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Tell YOUR Story. What was THE BEST Beach Boys related concert YOU Ever Attended on: January 04, 2015, 01:10:54 AM
Brian Wilson performing Smile live in Frankfurt.

Before the show I wasn't really aware of what Smile souded like. I knew some Beach Boys albums, but wasn't really that familiar with most of the songs from Smile. So I went there with my friend and it blew our minds. It was like a rollercoaster ride. The best Beach Boys realted show I ever attended.

I bought them and reed them. They're really fun an great Young Adult Literature stuff with lots of Beach Boys references. You should really read them and support tis guy.
54  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: California was, is and always THE rock capital.. on: December 16, 2014, 08:26:40 AM
Most pop punk bands are more influenced by early Beach Boys than later Beach Boys. But there is one band from California that actually has more of a late 60s Beach Boys feel: Bracket. Their new album Hold Your Applause is pretty much 60s psychedelica mixed with Weezer, Green Day and Ramones riffs. It's totally awesome. Enjoy.

THis is really awesome. I'm also wondering if the actors know about the references

Thanks Rob. The Barracudas and the Ramones are two bands that I really love and that influenced my songwriting a whole lot

I don't really have many hobbies. I pretty much love music, listening and making music. I love watching all kinds of music documentaries, even about bands that I don't like. Right now I'm watching the Beatles Anthology DVD with my girlfriend. It's awesome.
59  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: *Merged* Brian Wilson current album thread on: November 07, 2014, 07:42:16 AM
I really love the cover art and the title. This is going to be such a great album.
60  Smiley Smile Stuff / Brian Wilson Solo Albums / Re: In The Key Of Disney on: November 05, 2014, 10:09:14 AM
I give this album 4/5, because I really love it. Not every song is perfect, but overall it's really great. The production and arrangemants are wonderful.
61  Smiley Smile Stuff / 21st Century Beach Boys Albums / Re: That's Why God Made The Radio on: November 05, 2014, 06:06:01 AM
I really love this album. I actually listen to it more than most other Beach Boys albums. Here's my review:

1. Think About the Days - 5/5 (the perfect album opener. It would probably have been even better if they had put it in front of the suite)
2. That's Why God Made the Radio 4/5 (fun song with great harmonies)
3. Isn't it Time - 3/5 (one of the more boring songs on the album, weird choice for a second single)
4. Spring Vacation - 3/5 (same as Isn't It Time)
5. Private Life of Bill and Sue - 3/5 (this song isn't bad, the melody is good, but it's much too long)
6. Shelter - 5/5 (I love this song, it's amazing)
7. Daybreak - 4/5 It's corny and schmaltzy, but it's one of Mike Love's best songs)
8. Beaches in Mind - 2/5 (the absolute low point of this album. It's actually the only song that' getting on my nerves)
9. Strange World - 5/5
10. From There to Back Again - 5/5
11. Pacific Coast Highway - 5/5
12. Summer's Gone - 5/5 (the last four songs are wonderful and perfect)

Well, that title only reinforces my theory about "Barbie Cuties". I thought there's only a word "cowboy". Anyway, are you gonna buy the new Brian rec when it comes out? Do you like any collaborations on there? To me, it's Lana Dull Rey who ruins it. Your turn.

Of course I'll buy the new Brian album when it comes out. I'm actually really looking forward to the collaboration with Lana Del Rey, because I love her music and her voice. I'm not sure about Zoey Deschanel. But I think Brian knows what he does, so I'm really looking forward to the whole album
63  Smiley Smile Stuff / Welcome to the Smiley Smile board / Re: Hey Ho! on: November 02, 2014, 02:46:30 AM
I like the name of your band, imagine this. You have a gig in Texas*, the announcer calls you out "Barbie Cuties!" & people obviously expect to see girls, but then you all show up on stage & the audience is laughing. Some of the members goes to mic to say, "No, we are B-A-R-B-E-C-U-T-I-E-S" - y'know, we like meat. Btw, someone tell us where is your nearby barbershop? we're HUNGRY, YEAH!" (the crowd yells)

*afaik, it's a state famous for its farming, corn bread & stuff.

Now, the tune. I really dug it, anything that sounds remotely festive is right up my alley. The intro is very Christmasey. Cool vocal too. The song could easily turn up on the Ramones tribute album. 5 stars.

Glad you like the song. Had to laugh at the Barbecuties story, because 3/4 of our band are actually vegetarians. But we still love to barbecue. We just don't grill real steaks, but rather this

Hi & welcome! What surf bands are you fan of? Any obscure names? I heard BBs fanbase in Germany is as strong as in the UK & Japan - lucky you!

I even wrote a song about Brian.
Like to share?

But I have to warn you, I probably won't have that many new or interesting things to say.
Time will show, altho, I wouldn't call you a bore; some nice comments, in fact.

My favorite instrumental surf bands are Blue Hawaiians, Vanduras, Aqua Velvets, Bambi Molesters, Leopold Kraus Wellenkapelle and our local band Necronautics. They are so awesome
My favorite vocal surf bands are Fantastic Baggys, Jan & Dean, the usual suspects.

Here's my song about Brian. It's called The life of Brian. I hope you enjoy it!

Beach Boys - Hushabye
Flaming Lips - Yoshimi battles the pink robots pt. 1

I love how these songs sound.

Hated this damn show back in the day. Completely unwatchable saccharine pablum bullfuckery.

These are exactly my feelings about this show
69  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: The Best Beatles Solo Albums. on: August 26, 2014, 09:48:36 PM
I'm not a Beatles fan, but my girlfgriend is. So she has quite a lot Beatles solo albums, especially Paul Maccartney, because she's a fan.  So from the albums that I know I have to say that Paul's Chaos and Creation in the Backyard is THE best solo album. It has everything the other albums should have: it's well arranged and executed and you can actually listen to it from the beginning to the end. Not one embarrassing pseudo-loud and rocking song. I actually really love this album.
70  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Tell us about your Beach Boys collection on: August 26, 2014, 10:34:41 AM
Okay, here's what I have by this wonderful band. Nothing special, but so far everything that I need.

cds: I have every official Beach Boys album either as a twofer or as a single cd except the live albums and Stars and Stripes. I have the Summer in Paradise European version.
I have the 2cd Smile Sessions version, because I don't like listening to recording sessions, I rather listen to complete songs. I don't have any box sets, but will get Made in California for my birthday.
I have all the Brian Wilson albums except I Just Wasn'T Made... And I have the Dennis Wilson 2cd edition.

vinyl: At the moment I'm getting most of the Beach Boys albums on lp, too, because I don't like listening to the twofers anymore, because you never know when the actual album ends or begins or the bonus tracks are playing. This kind of sucks about these twofers. Still glad that I have them. So far I have All Summer Long, Love You, Smiley Smile, Today, L.A., Sunflower and Surf's Up. I also have Mike Love's solo album on lp and the single with Annette "Monkey's Uncle".

dvds: Brian Wilson: Presents Smile, Pet Sounds live, on Tour
Beach Boys: live at Knebworth, Live Raritäten, 50

books: Look listen vibrate smile
The Complete Guide to their Music
Catch A Wave: The Rise, Fall, and Redemption of the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson
This Whole World: The Complete Beach Boys Single And EP Cover Collection

other stuff: I have various Beach Boys and Brian Wilson t-shirts. I have 2 posters, one from the Brian Wilson Smile concert in Frankfurt. That was one great show.

Okay, surely doesn't compare to other people's stuff.

71  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Queers on: August 24, 2014, 12:09:14 AM
For what it's worth, The Queers have a track featured in the "Brian Wilson: Imagination" DVD. I guess that's almost like being given the blessing.

Really? What track? This is interesting
72  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1960's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Friends on: August 23, 2014, 12:04:01 PM
Friends is perfect except for Transcendental Meditation. This song is so bad it nearly destroys the mood of the album. But just nearly. Still 5/5.
73  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Queers on: August 23, 2014, 12:51:02 AM
The Queers are a great pop punk band. I really love their pop songs. Don't Back Down, Love Songs For The Retarded and Muki Brain are their best albums.
I agree, their Beach Boys covers are better than any other band covering them. But I hate albums like Beyond The Valley or Back To The Basement. Stupid bonehead punk.
74  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Your Second Favorite Band Next to the Beachboys on: August 21, 2014, 09:42:59 AM
My 2nd favourite band is Super Furry Animals, check out the track listing on their 'Under The Influence' compilation:

They're great, but I only know two albums (Rings Around The World and Fuzzy Logic). But especially RATW ist very awesome
75  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Somewhere, there's a person whose favorite Beach Boys LP is Summer in Paradise.. on: August 21, 2014, 04:26:20 AM
Summer in Paradise was the first Beach Boys album that I bought. I was a teenger (don't know how old, maybe 17 or so) and I really liked the album except for a few songs. I really hated Hot Fun, Surfin', Remember Walking in the Sand and Under the Boardwalk. The other songs, even Summer of Love, weren't too bad. From today's point of view the production is really terrible and the songs and arrangements are badly executed. But I still listen to it from time to time and have good time.

So basically you hated the covers.  Me too.  The rest isn't all that bad.

never thought about it this way, but this pretty much nails it
