Surf's Up (animated movie). I think I took one of the easiest ones.

Okay, one more then I'll leave the poor guy alone.

Bad Vibrations
(cello triplets by VDP. Bass by Carol Kaye)

I... I love to twit on Twitter now
And opinionate on Facebook every day
I haven't seen this film anyhow
But that won't stop me having my own say

I'm sending out bad vibrations
Film didn't meet my expectations
I'm sending out bad vibrations
caustic comments, irritations
Bad, bad, bad, bad vibrations
Bad, bad, bad, bad vibrations

Close your eyes
You can hear my cellos now
Softly tickling triplets in your ear
When it's a bass you hear
It's Carol even when she wasn't there

I'm sending out bad vibrations
Film didn't meet my expectations
I'm sending out bad vibrations
caustic comments, irritations
Bad, bad, bad, bad vibrations
Bad, bad, bad, bad vibrations

Ahhhhhh....

I don't know why but I'm an old fart now

(ah my, my what a sensation)

(ah my, my what elations)

Gotta keep those twitt'ring bad vibrations poking atcha, Brian
Gotta keep those twitt'ring bad vibrations poking atcha, Brian

Ahhhh….

Bad, bad, bad, bad vibrations
Bad, bad, bad, bad vibrations

Happy 73rd Birthday Brian! Keep up with the great tunes.
4  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: How did Revolver & Sgt Pepper Affect Brian? on: June 10, 2015, 10:08:33 AM
I always thought I could hear a little influence of For No One in Wonderful.
I was about to say that. Those two songs sound more similar than Wonderful and SLH.

The Rolling Stones- Midnight Rambler

I don't why but I can't stop listening to the guitar parts on it.
6  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Who do you want to see Brian cover on his R&R album? on: May 01, 2015, 01:09:07 PM
Brian Wilson singing Touch Me would be interesting. Even more interesting would be The End.  Grin

BWPS was one of the first records I heard when I was a kid so it will always have a sentimental value to me. When I got older, I heard about the original Smile tapes and went onto the internet and found Mok's version on youtube. To this day, Smile still blows me away and especially love TSS.
8  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What are the Best BB-related Albums that have little or no Brian Wilson input? on: April 05, 2015, 06:27:32 AM
Holland. My favorite Carl song, the Trader, is on there and I also love Only With You and Leaving This Town. But I'm not sure it counts because of SOS and MVAF.
9  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: LISTEN TO THE LAST SONG & ON THE ISLAND!! BBC RADIO on: March 29, 2015, 04:28:55 PM
The Last Song is good but I am let down by the production. I think Summer's Gone is a better finale than this song, though this isn't bad. Touching lyrics though.

Well the song is very catchy. I enjoyed it though. Hope you get better Billy.
11  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Dijon mustard on: March 28, 2015, 07:00:29 PM
What is dylan mustard?
A type of mustard used by Bob Dylan fans. It is best stored in basements and made in Woodstock NY. The Byrds are famous customers of this mustard.
12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Clinton Apparently Blasted the Beach Boys on Air Force One on: March 26, 2015, 05:41:44 PM
I was expecting something different too. I read the title as "Clinton Apparently Blasted the Beach Boys in Air Force Radio".  Cheesy
13  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Interview/Article - Vulture.com; If Your Dad Were Brian Wilson... on: March 26, 2015, 05:39:01 PM
What did Lana Del Rey have to do that was more important than recording with Brian Wilson? More modeling?  Roll Eyes

Sorry, I know a lot of people here are into her music, but she seems like a blank page in high heels to me and I'm so glad I'll get to hear Brian singing "Last Song" now, which is as it should be.
While I am overall happy that Brian will be the one singing The Last Song on NPP, I am a little bummed out that there won't be a version of Lana Del Rey singing it. I was hoping maybe Brian's version will show up on his album, and Lana's version would be released as a single or on one of her albums. But oh well.
14  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Which BB song is YOUR \ on: March 22, 2015, 05:44:20 PM
Cabin Essence. That backing track is phenomenal and the vocals in the fadeout are some of the Boys' best. I can listen to  that song anytime, any day.
15  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: For all of us OLD TIMERS (Andrew Doe, etc.) on: March 15, 2015, 12:11:55 PM
After hearing you all talk about waiting for decades for unreleased music to come out, I feel especially grateful I was born into a world where most of their backlog has been released or uploaded on YouTube. I can't even imagine how it feels to have waited over 40 years for Smile to be released, since it came out 5 years after I discovered the songs. My only regret is that I'll never be able to see Carl or Dennis live, but I have been given the gift of seeing Brian live. Hopefully, people are still listening to the BB's 100 years from now.
16  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What songs do you want to hear in the NPP tour setlist? on: March 15, 2015, 08:55:58 AM
From Al, I'd like to hear Susie Cincinnati or Honkin' Down the Highway. Maybe Vegetables. From Brian, Midnight's Another Day or Pacific Coast Highway. One Dennis/Carl song would be nice too.

74 big ones! Happy Birthday Mike.  Smiley
18  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Interesting Article: Brian Wilson on Chuck Berry and upcoming Rock & Roll album on: March 14, 2015, 04:44:43 PM
Brian's been saying his next album will be a rock & roll set since Imagination.

This is true. I remember reading about it in an interview promoting "Imagination" for the now-defucnt Raygun magazine. "Proud Mary" was the song Brian said he was working on. This "rock and roll" album is growing to mythical SMiLE-like proportions. In 3 years will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of it never having been finished.  Grin
I heard that Brian recorded the "rock and roll album" but he burned some of the tapes because the guitars were causing bad vibrations. Expect a release date of January 2067.

This looks like an Oscar-worthy movie. Can't wait to see it in June.

You Still Believe In Me. The falsetto is outstanding on that track.
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Examiner exclusive: The Beach Boys Today! - Mike talks about the album on: March 09, 2015, 06:50:19 PM
Asher:

She's already working on my brain
I only look in her eyes
And I pick up something I just can't explain

I'm picking up good, good, good vibrations, yeah
Good, good, good vibrations, yeah

I, I bet I know what she's like
And I can feel how right she'd be for me
It's when how she comes in so strong
And I wonder what she's picking up from me

I hope it's good, good, good vibrations, yeah
Good, good, good vibrations, yeah

----------

Love:

I... I love the colorful clothes she wears
And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair
I hear the sound of a gentle word
On the wind that lifts her perfume through the air

I'm pickin' up good vibrations
She's giving me excitations

Close my eyes
She's somehow closer now
Softly smile, I know she must be kind
When I look in her eyes
She goes with me to a blossom world

I'm pickin' up good vibrations
She's giving me excitations

I don't know where but she sends me there
(ah my, my what a sensation)
(ah my, my what elations)
(ah my, my what)

Gotta keep those lovin' good vibrations
A happenin' with her

Mike's GV lyrics just destroy Asher's. They're just prettier words.
Asher's lyrics are too literal and abstract. Mike is specific and uses images to evoke an impression of vibrations ("sunlight plays" , "wind...lifts ", "sound of a gentle word") without being on-the-nose.

Whatever happened to that Mike, who could arrive at meaning through expressive images rather than bald statements?
I think Mike's still capable of writing picturesque lyrics.

As Cam said, a thread merger would solve the duplicative thread issue. And then we can have world peace again.
23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Endless Summer Quarterly feedback on: March 06, 2015, 08:05:47 AM
Wasn't Do You Like Worms also considered for L.A. at some point? That would have been interesting.  Cool
24  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Favorite Mike lead vocals on: March 05, 2015, 07:27:36 PM
Kiss Me, Baby is my favorite lead, and I also like most all of his bass parts.
Another great bass part of Mike's is Break Away. You can really hear it in all it's glory on the Hawthorne CA mix.

Who here is going to the Philly show on 6/29? I certainly am. Mann Center is a great venue for Brian and company.
