By Robert Deutsch, USA TODAY

Reeve, 44, was a relatively unknown singer and actress before her Superman husband suffered near-total paralysis after a horse-riding accident in 1995. The couple became ardent spinal-cord injury activists and Reeve lent his name to the Christopher Reeve Foundation, the Short Hills, N.J.-based organization devoted to finding treatments and cures for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury and other neurological disorders. Following his death in 2004, Dana Reeve became its chair.

By Tuesday afternoon, eulogies were widespread.

"The brightest light has gone out," said comedian Robin Williams. "We will forever celebrate her loving spirit."

Former President Clinton and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton described Reeve as "a model of tenacity and grace."

"Despite the adversity that she faced, Dana bravely met these challenges and was always an extremely devoted wife, mother and advocate," they said.

"On behalf of the entire board of directors and staff of the Christopher Reeve Foundation, we are extremely saddened by the death of Dana Reeve, whose grace and courage under the most difficult of circumstances was a source of comfort and inspiration to all of us," foundation president and CEO Kathy Lewis said in a statement. "The foundation extends our deepest condolences and sympathy to the entire Reeve and Morosini families.

"Dana will always be remembered for her passion, strength and ceaseless courage that became her hallmark. Along with her husband, Christopher, she faced adversity with grace and determination, bringing hope to millions around the world."

The cruel irony of a Superman made virtually immobile was compounded when Dana Reeve, who didn't smoke, disclosed she had lung cancer in August, 10 months after her husband's death. But, in public at least, Reeve approached her illness with steely resolve.

"I learned a long time ago that life just isn't fair, so you have to stop expecting it to be," she said during a November foundation fundraiser in New York.

"I was married to a man who never gave up. It's harder than this, what he was facing every day." The family, which includes the couple's 13-year-old son, Will, and Christopher Reeve's two grown children, Matthew and Alexandra, lived in suburban Pound Ridge, N.Y.

"I thought that after everything that she had gone through with Chris that she would have time to smell the flowers and be in the sun," said Sen. Diane Feinstein, D-Calif. "But apparently that was not meant to be."

I'm saddened,as he was one of my heroes. The Twins are my favorite team besides my hometown Astros, so this really hits hard.

13182  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Wrote this when I was 11 on: March 05, 2006, 10:57:51 PM
I wrote this when I was 11 years old. It's one of the very first songs I ever wrote; I was actually writing a story, well, a novel really, based on a dream I had at that time. Kind of a space soap opera/action/drama. Well, since I was just a kid, I didn't know how to actually, you know, write a book. So, I started writing music that would tell a story, you know? This was one of the main themes in the early part of it, the battle sequence, where the hero of the story goes into battle to avenge the deaths of his parents. It's a lot more complicated than that, but that's the story of the opening suite.

I actually recorded a demo of the song itself back in 2001. The original piece lasted over 15 minutes. I re-recorded this section last year; this is actually only a small segment. I actually did record the entire concept album I mentioned earlier, and am now in the process of rerecording it. I chose this part because, well, I think it f*cking grooves. I hope to be finished with the entire thing by the end of the year.

Oh, and I'm actually writing the novel now!

Anyway...

I personally think it's better. One of Brian's best "mid-period" vocals.

Not only that, but referred to it as "all lies and bullshit".

I'd suggest taking Adult/ Child, subtracting the two Sunflower rejects, and adding "Marilyn Rovell" and "My Diane" in their place.  Works for me!

Maybe add "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" too.  Great Spector cover that.

Indeed. IMHO, one of the great lost outtakes.

Moved this here.

As for the second thing...I don't know about McParland, but Brad...is next to impossible to get a hold of it seems. At least it was a few years ago. Don't know the whole story myself, just something to do with people who ordered books from him.

It's already better than Rocky V, that's for sure!

...except during KTSA. I always found that odd, because to my knowledge, he wasn't involved at all with the recording of that song.

Huh...I wonder what a re-recording of that song with Brian and the 'mints would sound like...
13192  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Dave Gilmour interview on: March 04, 2006, 01:31:49 PM
Did you notice how there were far less auxillary musicians than in the past? Thank God, because I personally hate it when a band of excellent musicians fill out their sound with 10-15 extra people, the point where you can't hear the original band anymore. See also Music, Roxy.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around a "desert bar". I think one would be perfect for a Sandbox.  Wink

I don't think he was still on stage at that point.

There ya go. As I own it, I'm currently recording covers of BWPS for my own use. I notice, though, that it is amazingly difficult to play, esp. with all the sudden key changes and time signature changes.
13197  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Boot? on: March 04, 2006, 12:11:00 PM
Going from "Little Deuce Coupe" to "Trader"...what an odd transition that must have been for the audience. Still trying to wrap my head around that one.

I had no idea "Don't Talk" was played live in that era, either.
13198  Smiley Smile Stuff / Welcome to the Smiley Smile board / Re: Suggestions and comments about the board on: March 04, 2006, 12:06:21 PM
Good suggestion. I can be a "tester" for any piano music. However, you'd have to ket any guitarists here do the tabs and check them out, because I'm a moron when it comes to guitar stuff; I'm a piano guy.

"Former guitarist of Pink Floyd".

About time someone admits they're on permanant hiatus.

Anyone else  notice the physical similarites between Gilmour and Barrett these days?
