101  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Mike Love ( The movie title ) on: February 26, 2016, 09:19:01 PM
Brian's movie is titled "Love and Mercy." Suggest a good name for a Mike Love movie.

"Meditate & Litigate"

I just love this album. Loved it from day one. Probably my most played BW album.

I saw them in Milwaukee on Nov 22 1971. I assume the set list was the same or very similar. I do remember it was a good show, my first actually.

Mike had posted photos of himself hatless at home on FaceBook a while back. I believe it was for his birthday celebration with his family. Frankly, he looked rather good without the hat.

What would happen if Brian took a month or two, with just him in a room with a keyboard and a Tascam Portastudio or something simmilar. No Co Producers, No Co-writers. No Thomas or Bennett.

Would we get something closer to NPP and TLOS, or would we get stuff akin to Love You or Friends?

What if........ You identified your subject matter in the subject line

Maybe it just wasn't good enough to garner a nomination. (Sorry)

Rocky, what are YOU doing NOW. Recently you told us what you did in the past, but what are you doing currently as a livelihood?

What kind of woes?

Yeah, too many people here sucking up to Rocky just so he doesn't leave.

I have just composed my letter and will be mailing it to the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee.  Fingers crossed!
Nice! So what image should adorn said stamp? Surfer Girl cover?

How about a line of coke, a bottle of booze and a photo of a courtroom ? That about sums it up !

Mike had great career potential in the gasoline industry.....pumping it. He also was a sheet metal worker at the family business I believe. He did rather well for himself. More power to him, he has lived more than the American Dream.

Why do we assume that all of the backup band makes the same amount? $700.00 is the figure that has been tossed about lately. Perhaps , like in other occupations, they make different amounts, based on various factors, like length of time with the band and so forth. Just thinking!

I love Dion I think he is hugely underrated and very versatile.   I go through my doo wop stages and early 60's stuff, Elvis early Conway not a fan of very much British invasion stuff the twang is off putting.  <though I do lile the DC 5>

It doesn't get any more classic than Dion. I love listening to him.

Landy also worked with Gig Young an actor from the 40s and 50s. He later killed his wife and committed suicide. Not too successful with that client .

Apparently Carl refused to perform his community service as an orderly at a Los Angeles veterans hospital, due to the lack of quality Cold Cuts in the cafeteria.

That does pose a good question. Why didn't he report to fulfill his assigned job as orderly at the VA hospital?  I knew a guy with a law degree who was ordered to do the same and he complied .

I feel like Carl avoided the draft to keep the BBs touring machine going more than anything else. It's not like the BBs could have taken a break from constant touring instead and "recharged" their recording energies.

]He probably avoided the draft so he wouldn't get killed in Vietnam,

118  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 'Darlin' featured on The Big Bang Theory TV show on: December 11, 2015, 01:53:35 PM
One of my favorite songs in one of my favorite shows. As soon as Sheldon hummed the first line, I told my wife that was Darlin' by The Beach Boys. SO SO COOL!

I feel ashamed that I didn't know what he was humming. I thought it sounded familiar, but I couldn't place it. What a surprise it was when it was revealed.

Don't be ashamed that you didn't know the song. DO be ashamed that you watch that show !

Historically, the deepest secrets are kept for the longest time. They take the longest to surface. It has taken three and a half decades for the collective unconscious to be ready to hear the shadows point of view.
The music business is fickle and cruel, to say the least, and then there are the voices Brian Wilson hears in his head...

In my book "WIPEOUT'" It is replete with rather racy recollections of movie and rock stars, rich people, and royalty. It is a story of deceit and betrayal, the excesses of ego, where greed and jealousy run riot and family members are fair game. Brian Wilson, the ever fragile golden goose, is fleeced again and again by his rapacious first cousin, Mike Love, who later turns his poisonous venom on his younger brother and then Beach Boys manager, Stephen.

Where is your "Wipeout" book availability? Please share a link here

Actually for the most part , Mike sounded very good at this question and answer session. He seemed relaxed and genuine, unlike a lot of his usual interviews. I watched the hour and a half rough cut . I think he came across rather well. I'm surprised there haven't been more comments here about this .

So what exactly is the story on Shilling ? Most of the rest of the Memphis Mafia were ,in my opinion, enabling bloodsuckers. Was he different? Was he good for the Boys and as Carl's manager ?
123  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike and Bruce - Pre 2012 on: November 21, 2015, 02:57:17 PM
I don't understand all of the " hate " toward Mike regarding that tour. It was supposed to be for 50 concerts. He agreed to play a couple of dozen more. That seems very kind in my opinion. After that he wanted it to end , so he could do his own thing . Nothing wrong with that. Of course he was booking Mike & Bruce concerts during the Reunion Tour . Promoters demand  concerts be booked well in advance , so they can book other shows and advertise the events properly. I don't think Mike did anything wrong. He just wanted it to end , and that was his perrogative.

Love &  Mercy is a song that really gets to me . The album Orange Crate Art also affects me the same way .
