1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson - 2019 Tour Thread on: February 20, 2019, 08:12:06 PM
Why do so many people on this board pretend that Brian live is good? This guy shouldn't be out on tour-the video's I've seen are really of a guy who seems almost forced to be participating in a show...
2  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Everyone back together for a Beach Boys Q&A for Sirius XM? on: August 06, 2018, 08:30:57 PM
Good gravy already, the whole Mike ended C50 thing is bogus. BRIAN 'S WIFE ended it with the "no more Wilson dates" email: that is a fact.

I'm amazed Melinda is allowing Brian to do this.....my guess is, this was just done for publicity for the SiriusXM Channel, and the current album. No tour is coming, no new album, no performance at the event.
4  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike Nesmith Reveals Quadruple-bypass Surgery - Still Plans to Tour In September on: July 28, 2018, 01:38:58 PM
I'm a little upset that Micky and the tour producer, knowing about the oxygen mask, didn't stop the tour earlier.
5  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Archival Release Process on: April 06, 2018, 05:22:25 PM
It's my understanding Captiol can release whatever they want, and it doesn't matter what any member of the group want. I could be wrong, but that's what I was told. Also, as I understand, once the 1969 unissued Capitol stuff is out, Brother can choose to do nothing about 1970 onward.  I could be wrong, would love to know more.
6  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 'Beach Baby' by First Class and Endless Summer Concurrent Chart Runs on: April 06, 2018, 05:18:50 PM
"Beach Baby" is a great song. I feel it's evocative of The Beach Boys: certainly a Mike Love style lead vocal. I wish Mike & Bruce would do it in their show (and mercifully ax 'Ol Betsy').
7  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian's next solo album (NPP followup) speculation and info thread on: April 02, 2018, 07:50:03 PM
The thing is, nobody really buys Brian solo albums. Same for Mike. They don't get streamed really either. Only The Beach Boys name would sell, and get some attention. Too bad they couldn't record together, but tour apart. In their late 70's, time is almost up...
8  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson - 2018 Tour Thread on: April 02, 2018, 07:45:03 PM
I personally don't understand why someone would pay to see Greatest Hits Live, when the lead singer of most hits  (Mike Love) is touring as The Beach Boys. Why would seeing Brian sing the same songs (off key/out of tune) be better? It's kinda like a tribute to Mike Love oddly enough, in my opinion. Same for the upcoming Christmas Tour: Mike sang lead on the hits. He's the original voice. It would be like me going to see Peter Tork perform Monkees hits, when Micky Dolenz is touring as The Monkees. I prefer the original vocalist!  Now, before you get mad that I'm a Mike Love fan, Brian on tour doing his Beach Boys lead vocal songs, album cuts, solo stuff, that would be cool. I like them both.
9  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike Love’s 2016 solo project on: May 12, 2016, 05:44:44 PM
Same sessions as the Christmas single here, so Jeff and Bruce are present. From my understanding, no other boys for the "project"...(and, this board sucks without AGD).
10  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Lifetime ban on AGD on: May 12, 2016, 05:41:03 PM
If indeed what AGD did was as bad as inferred, that's a shame. If it isn't, he might have grounds to sue for slander/liable...
11  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: new article with some interesting tidbits on: March 08, 2016, 07:21:00 PM
The thing I believe is that Melinda, while certainly a big big part of Brian getting free, wouldn't have succeeded without Carl (and Aubree & Stan to a much lesser degree).
12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Rocky Pamplin book about The Beach Boys? on: March 08, 2016, 10:33:59 AM
Ah, I get it...the book is a work of fiction.
13  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The selling of the SOT catalogue on: October 10, 2015, 08:04:42 PM
They took too long to challenge it...and the rights would have not gone to only Brian, but considering Mike co-wrote a huge chunk of songs that were-for years-credited to only Brian, should have gone to Wilson/Love....but again, taking 20 years to file a suit is my opinion on why it didn't happen.
14  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson / Al Jardine / Blondie Chaplin Fall 2015 Tour Thread on: October 10, 2015, 07:57:31 PM
They should drop a lot of the Mike Love lead vocal tracks, since Al & Brian have other songs that are good. Mike sings Mikes leads in concert, yet Brian sings Mikes too...I can hear the original voice with The Beach Boys. I want to hear Brian sing Brians leads!
15  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Recent Mike Love Interview - Bakersfield Californian on: September 23, 2015, 08:36:56 PM
Say what you want about the dreaded un-named "handers"...but just because you don't want to think there are any doesn't mean there aren't any. It's more subtle and clever then you'd think. Like Mike, I'll leave it at that.
16  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Alone On christmas Day ... new single on: September 23, 2015, 08:32:28 PM
Ah, for those who asked, I don't have ANY inside info...I just read what Mike said, and to me it's obvious it can't be a Beach Boys recording!
17  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: I had the opportunity to listen to Rio Grande while on LSD and can I just say... on: September 22, 2015, 07:42:13 PM
For those of us who don't like drug music, the song isn't that good. Kinda boring and odd.

People, people...Mike recently recorded this. Not a Beach Boys release. Now, get back to arguing over how C50 ended and how Mike owes Brian everything, and the other assorted opinions-stated-as-facts (that are generally completely made up).
20  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The miracl of WIBN(TLA) on: July 31, 2015, 09:04:27 PM
Uh...you know it was Dennis who took WIBNTLA off the Surf's Up album, right? CARL pissed him off, not Mike..though it seems you think Love had something o do with it (he did not)...and, it is Dennis who sings the wonderful tag line on the end of "It's OK", so he must have liked it (more than Sail On Sailer, which he bailed out of) Personally, I think WIBNTLA is mediocure (and the MIC version mercifully cuts it back from the full version).   He also was kicked out of The Beach Boys several times, so he got some distance-trouble was, Dennis was a manic drug addicted alcoholic. His disease is what took the life out of him. The one-octive croon his voice was reduced to was attributed to cociane, etc...
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Unleash The Love - Mike Love 2005 album on: July 31, 2015, 08:51:39 PM
The Dolenz LP is so great (a companion LP of the unreleased Dolenz stuff from then would be nice Grin).  My other favorite band besides The Beach Boys IS The Monkees (you should hear Dolenz sing "Wild Honey"!)
Problem is, Unleash The Love wasn't done, and we've heard the best stuff...yet still, if Dolenz sells a thousand, certainy Mike's stuff would (and technically, all the Dolenz stuff was already released). GOOD LUCK 7A! Awesome work so far!
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Settling the \ on: July 31, 2015, 08:46:06 PM
It's Brian OBVIOUSLY (yet not as obvious is the pitch correction used).
23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: A Q&A with Brian Wilson on: July 11, 2015, 02:38:31 PM
Only this board could turn Brian's positive comments about his cousin into some sort of negative. To those participating in thist kind of discourse, I speak for a lot of us when I ask you to PLEASE STOP. It's exceedingly boring to read, cuts down on actual valuable posts, and most of us don't care about your back and forth who can more poorly prove a moot point.
24  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Best Mike Love Quotes on: July 11, 2015, 02:33:07 PM
Many of you are woefully misguided about Mike Love. I assure you, he doesn't sit around stewing on old issues, or constantly think of Brian Wilson. Additionally, you can selectively choose quotes from almost anyone out of context to fit your narrative.

Brian Wilson (paraphrased) to Mike Love "You're getting senile" 1996. Or "My band is better than The Beach Boys ever were" (few years ago). Or "I burned the Smile tapes". Etc, etc. Why, you could say Brian is angry and a liar!

Point is, when people on this board are most interested in proving some obtuse point to one another, PLEASE DO SO VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE! The rest of us do not care if you like Brian or Mike better, or some such nonsense.
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson local Dallas interview on: June 29, 2015, 09:49:14 PM
Many things stand out. How and when did Melinda start getting even billing with Brian? Weird to me (you don't call Mike Love and have his wife honing in). It was my thought that brother Carl actually did more to get rid of Landy than anyone else (perhaps I'm wrong), since Melinda was not married to him during that time-it took family, like Carl, Audree and perhaps Mike. Speaking of Mike, Brian clearly doesn't want to talk about him...that's telling. Worth a listen to anyone reading this.
