No Dennis ... on MIU.

Who sang My Diane or co-wrote Matchpoint of Our Love then?

Great stuff!

I always wondered what the chords were to LWAH, but could never be bothered to look; now I don't need to  Cheesy

I particularly liked when the two of you hit what looks like an E7, it sounds like a sample of the original somehow!

Keep up the good work  Grin

EDIT: Just listened to your other BB covers, they're awesome, Disney Girls (1957) is amazing, you really got Bruce's voice for that one!

I must've been playing Test Drive Unlimited too much lately; I thought you were referring to the Koenigsegg of the same name!  Grin

I always thought that ELO's "Turn To Stone" was influenced by "Heroes & Villains"; maybe it's a shared love of "Rhapsody In Blue" since other motifs from this Gershwin classic pop up on the "Out Of The Blue" album.

For the definitive influence of H&V, check out the melody to the first line of The Way Life's Meant To Be Wink

Sir Ian McKellen - now THAT'S a good narrator! Or perhaps Patrick Stewart from Star Trek. Wouldn't they sound pretty odd on a Brian Wilson record?

If he needs to fill some space, he could get William Shatner to....... narrate....... the....... spoken....... parts Smiley

California Calling I always interpreted as self-parody really, a rare case of Mike displaying a wry sense of humour and an inkling of where the Bs had come from, and where they'd arrived at.

I beg to differ , it seems exactly like the dreck that Mike wanted the Boys to be associated with Smiley

Cuckoo Clock is a tune of its era so I couldn't really knock it, though the BBs version of Louie Louie doesn't stand up to contemporary versions.

I agree to some extent, I give County Fair etc the dodge because its the sort of thing that was done in those days, CC just bugs me, I think its just too twee for my liking...

But Why Do Fools, I Get Around, Little Deuce Coupe are terrific.

I should mention that I Get Around / Little Deuce Coupe refers to the Party! medley...

Endless Harmony is more of that BJ saccharin overose, though the closing harmony section ("And we sang...") is terrific.

I have to agree with you here, I'll rephrase that to 'Up to the end section of Endless Harmony'

Male Ego I accepted and liked at the time as a rare BW offering...

The rarity of this song doesn't save it for me, YMMV. Smiley

I don't dig the hate for Matchpoint, Full Sail or Goin' South either!

My 'Top' ten would probably be:

1. California Calling - (possibly the worst case of self-cannibalising ever)
2. Cuckoo Clock - (just crap, musically and vocally)
3. I Do Love You - (I don't love this)
4. Why Do Fools Fall In Love?-  (disappointing; I hoped they'd do this much better)
5. I Get Around / Little Deuce Coupe - (why the stupid singing, Mike, why?)
6. Mount Vernon And Fairway (A Fairy Tale) - (zzzzzzz)
7. School Day - (sorry Al, but this sucks)
8. Endless Harmony - (this song really does seem endless!)
9. Male Ego - (damn you, Landy!)
10. Peggy Sue - (what was Al's obssession with ruining oldies?)

It goes without saying that the non-musical tracks such as Bull Session... etc are automatically included as 'bonus' tracks!

As to how common these types of time signatures are -- I looked through a Beatles songbook I have and only found 2 songs (out of about 50) that were not either 4/4 or 2/2 --
Fool on the Hill and Lucy in the Sky.

What about For No One, I Me Mine, Dig A Pony (or even Revolution #9  Tongue)?
Happiness Is A Warm Gun goes through all sorts of funky time signatures, too...

I'm sure there's more, those were just off the top of my head Smiley
