Does anyone know what the influence for the instrumental of Barnyard was? Like what songs from that era would have been remotely similar to this (in pop culture, western soundtracks, or Disney productions)?

Old McDonald Had A Farm could be an influence, but I can't find a recording from that before that era that sounds like Barnyard.

I'd say that Aaron Copland's "Hoedown" from the Rodeo Suite probably had some influence. Moreso in Barnshine, perhaps.

additional - my band EXPO has an album coming out on March 31, titled "Unexplained Phenomena".
It's an album based on the '70's TV show "In Search Of". Each song corresponds to an episode from the show.
The preview track (streamable) features a cracking-good Leonard Nimoy impersonator.
Anyone into Bigfoot, UFOs, Ogopogo, The Bermuda Triangle, etc., might dig this album.

...Oh, and love how (so far) everything is linking together, from song to song.

Stellar work!

No way would Brian sabotage his song like that.

If you believe the conventional thinking, BW sabotaged a whole bunch of 'em on "Smiley Smile".

What's weird about this song - the vibe - (and pardon me if I'm not hunched over looking at sessionography)
is that it fits the looser mold of "Can't Wait Too Long". It's got a a lighter vibe, in that same vein.

This might interest you - new album "National Park Brochures" with Beach-Boys (Pet-Sounds/Smiley Smile) influence in places.

the ones that are most BB-like are "Guadalupe Mountains", "Congaree", and "Everglades".
