126  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Re: jacksdeos Reimagined Albums Series: Complete Track Listing on: January 30, 2017, 07:59:35 PM
My imagined 15 Big Ones if they'd recorded proper versions of the various songs here that they hadn't at this point. It's definitely not the best tracklisting (I threw it together in 2 minutes) but I imagine this would be a better record than what came out in 1976.

SIDE 1
1. Rock and Roll Music
2. Sherry She Needs Me
3. It's OK
4. Good Timin'
5. Awake
6. Marilyn Rovell
7. My Diane

SIDE TWO
8. Daddy Dear
9. Short Skirts (instrumental, maybe with just wordless harmonies over it)
10. Snowflakes (as a softer, intricate ballad with Carl on lead vocals)
11. Had To Phone Ya
12. Michael, Row The Boat Ashore
13. Just Once In My Life
14. That Same Song
15. California Feelin'

I'm back, but I won't be able to come on here every day, so I'm not gonna do this thread personally because it'd probably be too infrequent.
Thanks to B.E. and Ian for keepin it up!

'Lookin Back With Love' when I'm feeling pseudo-masochistic, despite how hilariously cringy the lyrics kinda are. The song, not the whole album; I'm not into self torture!
130  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: The Beatles Survivor #4: Bealtes For Sale on: January 29, 2017, 05:45:00 PM
it's quite strange reviewing the songs again for these battles, and trying to pick the
weak songs when they are so gosh darn good! Especially now, with these albums
from here on in being the 'grails'.

For me, for the most part, it's easy to choose the worst song on the Beatles albums and the best one. It's everything in between that's hard.

Well oh my oh gosh oh gee

These are the two best on the album in my opinion. But the one to go should be

Sorry this is happening so soon in the year, but I'm going to be away from a computer indefinitely for family reasons, so if anybody feels like keeping this up go ahead. Love and Mercy til next time.

From everything I've read it is. But maybe I haven't read that much.
You mean what you read at Smiley? It's popular opinion here that Big Sur 4/4 is best version. I & some people disagreed.

Yeah pretty much
135  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Unpopular Beach Boys opinions on: January 15, 2017, 07:15:01 AM
The Landlocked version of 'Big Sur' is a lot lot lot lot better than the Holland version.

Is that really an unpopular opinion?

From everything I've read it is. But maybe I haven't read that much.

Kanye West could do 'I Only Know' with Kim Kardashian's buttcheeks doing the background vocals and it'd be a smash
137  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: The return of the "What are you listening to now?" thread on: January 14, 2017, 04:40:15 PM
I've been listening to this all day, 'I Loves You Porgy' by Nina Simone
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEumBp4WCMs

I've always loved the Porgy and Bess songs and this is (besides the Zombies' 'Summertime') my favorite version of a P&B song

Request to Adult Child. My aging eyes can't read light-colored text on dark backgrounds easily, so I use an alternate theme for this site which has black text on a yellowish background.

What that means is that I can't read posts in yellow or pink text, due to a lack of contrast. So if you could avoid using those two colors in your BB history listings, it would be very helpful for those of us who use different themes. Thanks in advance.

Sorry to tell you Emdeeh but Adult Child was aware of this and has, for some time been using these colours to post insulting things about you. Personally I didnt believe any of it, especially not the sheep one.

Yeah Emdeeh, it's all true.  Undecided

Yeah of course I won't use those colors, thanks for lettin me know! I was worried bout those colors being a problem but no one had said anything so far

1965: A recording session at Western Recorders, Los Angeles, California. The songs ‘Good To My Baby’, ‘In The Back of My Mind’, and ‘Bull Session with ‘Big Daddy’’ are worked on. At the end of the session, Brian informs the group that he will not be returning to the road.

1966: The Beach Boys play another gig at Sankei Hall, Osaka, Japan, as they had on the 9th.

1969: A recording session for Dennis’s ‘San Miguel’ at Sunset Sound studio, Hollywood, California.

1977: The Beach Boys play a gig at the Richfield Coliseum, Cleveland, Ohio, again without Brian.

1978: A recording session at Brother Studios, Santa Monica, California, for ‘Angel Come Home’.

1980: The Beach Boys play a gig at the Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, California with the Grateful Dead, Santana, Jefferson Starship and Joan Baez. It is a benefit concert for Cambodian Relief.

JANUARY 12th

1966: The Beach Boys play a gig at the Kokusai Kaikan Hall, Kobe, Japan.

1967: A recording session for Dennis’s composition ‘I Don’t Know’ at Western Recorders, Los Angeles, California. Dennis, Carl, Bruce, and some of the Wrecking Crew are there, but apparently Brian isn’t.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGNQgF4kgeU

1977: A recording session at Brother Studios, Santa Monica, California, for the tag of ‘Airplane’.

1980: A truly historic day, for today is the last day in the seemingly endless saga of them working on vocals for their album Keepin’ The Summer Alive (in reality it was only like 6 days) at Al Jardine’s Red Barn Studio, Big Sur area, California. In hindsight, none of it would matter anyway, for the album was kinda sh*t.

1987: A session for ‘Spirit of Rock & Roll’ at Evergreen Recording Studios, Burbank, California.

1988: The Beach Boys play a gig at the Orange Bowl, Miami, Florida.

2014: The Beach Boys play a gig at the Blaisdell Arena, Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii as part of the arena’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

What about David Lee Roth's version of California Girls? Not better than the original, but pretty fun though. Of course I haven't heard it since the 80s, and I'm basing my opinion 100% on the fact that the last time I heard it I was like 12 and hadn't really developed a "taste" in music yet.

It may be fun, but it's not fun fun fun. Which is the difference between the Beach Boys and everyone else (and between Fun Fun Fun and all their other songs).

Has nothing to do with the conversation really, but a Bruce Springsteen tribute act is playing the inauguration now. You could say it's a brilliant disguise.

In what way wow? (No disrespect for your opinion either!)

As good as Da Capo is, Forever Changes is just perfect to me.
149  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Which Beach Boys Song Would Be A Hit If Updated? on: January 12, 2017, 11:34:21 AM
I've been thinking about all the BB covers I've heard, and really the only one I can stomach is She and Him's cover of "God Only Knows." And even with that one, I still wish I was hearing the original.

Yeah I don't think I've ever heard a good Beach Boys cover besides this guys 'Caroline, No'

But it's not like he sings or anything
150  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Which Beach Boys Song Would Be A Hit If Updated? on: January 12, 2017, 11:21:21 AM
Taylor Swift could do a cover of 'Teeter Totter Love' and it'd be a hit
