1  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Re: I Know - Mike LeRoy on: May 26, 2020, 01:17:28 PM
Sorry for the late response, just saw this. I usually just check bandcamp instead of here for some reason.

I just want you to know since I first heard your cover of Wake The World on the “Smiley Smilers recreate Friends” project that fell through (I think it did anyway), I’ve been a huge fan and still listen to your music quite a lot. I check at least once a month to see if you’ve put out something new. I have my favorites of yours but everything you’ve done is good and I think overall you’ve gotten better as times gone on, even though your last album was in 2018. You’re really phucking talented and as an artist (which I kinda am too in my way) I know it’s easy to get discouraged for any and every reason, big or small. Just know I think you’re great and I hope you get to where you want to artistically and personally. It can be a tough life for everyone. I’m still eagerly awaiting a new album, whatever that’s worth. I love the new song. You sound a little down, or maybe that’s just me hearing that. But it’s inspired and I’m listening to it for the third time now. I hope you feel inspired again soon.

I would've definitely done the whole album instead of 2 parts.

My first choice regardless of how it was done would be Wild Honey Pie.

I love everything about Mike except his lyrics that reference other Beach Boys lyrics and his dislike of Brian's musical direction at certain times (which I really dislike about him but it's over now I guess. I just wish he would've kept his mouth shut at certain points, that's about it really). I think Mike is amazing and even though I very much get why a lot of people hate him, I can't imagine the Beach Boys without him and I wouldn't want a Beach Boys without him. And I'm sure after reading this you'll wonder why I bothered posting such a generic post that anyone could've written. I have no answer.

5  Smiley Smile Stuff / 21st Century Beach Boys Albums / Re: That's Why God Made The Radio on: June 04, 2017, 09:08:49 PM
I give it a 3. I think the good songs (Think About The Days, That's Why God Made the Radio, Isn't It Time) and the great songs (Strange World, From There To Back Again, Pacific Coast Highway, Summer's Gone) add up to an amount of quality that hadn't been on a Beach Boys album since Love You. If it'd only been those 7 songs released as an EP, it'd be a 4.3.

Tomorrow I might change my mind about this, but today for the London songs I'm going with

Wow, "Good Day Sunshine", "Got to Get You" - you gotta be kidding. These are solid gold. So-lid-go-eld.

I'm buzzing today "Doctor Robert". Adult Child, hope you resume the fun picture posting.

I will resume the fun picture posting as soon as Doctor Robert gets voted off. It's a great song, but I'm pissed that I Want To Tell You got voted off so early and I genuinely think it's Doctor Robert's fault. Didn't give that song the right medicine.
12  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: The Beatles Survivor #7: Revolver on: April 16, 2017, 09:17:58 PM
I should've expected it to fall so soon, but damn it

Doctor Robert this time, no funny stuff
13  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: The Beatles Survivor #7: Revolver on: April 13, 2017, 08:29:24 PM
Doctor Robert

You guys, I Want to Tell You is such a good song...

Though I admit it's not the best song on the record, it's probably my favorite.

Doctor Robert again. No picture or anything. Just Doctor Robert. It's painful, but he's a doctor, so he'll be alright.
14  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Humming nonexistent additional vocal/instrument lines to existing BB songs on: April 13, 2017, 08:19:52 PM
The one that came to mind is on Mona when the line "Cantchya cantchya cantchya just hear it" comes up, and all the lines after that, the notes for the vocal in the song are : Cantchya (E) cantchya (D) cantchya (C) just (B) hear (B) it (B), and so on. But I always sing it like this (sorry for those who don't understand this, I can't really explain it any other way):

Cantchya (E)
Cantchya (D)
Cantchya (C)
Just (B)
Hear (F sharp/G flat)
It (B)

I always sing it like that for the lines: "Cantchya cantchya cantchya just hear it", "Rock n rock n rock n roll music", "Will ya will ya will ya just kiss me",  and "When you leave me don't you just miss me".

I was drunk one night and I heard the background vocals of Let Us Go On This Way starting at :38 as "Do me Lord, Do me Lord". I can't forget it.

I don't disagree with you except for the "Brian probably made up the 'nervous breakdown' thing..." I don't imagine 'panic attack' was within his lexicon. It was not a common term and at that time, 'nervous breakdown' was a broadly used term describing a variety of episode types that now have distinct names.

Thank you for telling me, I didn't know that. That changes my "Brian made it up" opinion.

Bringing up an old topic, but just my opinions:

Brian didn't have a "nervous breakdown" that day in 1964. He had an extreme panic attack, a momentously emotional night. All these things that had been building up inside of him for however long came to the fore. A "nervous breakdown" is much more serious. He had an extremely emotional episode, followed by a revelation, followed by 2 years of the greatest productivity of his life. It was with the collapse of SMiLE that he more than likely suffered a nervous breakdown of sorts. Not some massive nervous breakdown. No one who had that much control over anything as much as Brian had control over his music at that time could possibly be seriously mentally ill. He was seriously mentally ill in the early 70s. It was a big enough breakdown though that it crushed his will, more or less. And to him (or anyone), that is equal to a nervous breakdown in terms of personal pain. My guess (for whatever it's worth) is that he was starting to deteriorate pretty bad by 1972 when he recorded 'Mount Vernon & Fairway'. When his dad died, it probably took over him rapidly.

I say all this with the utmost respect for Brian, and people with mental problems. I only say it because the idea that he had a "nervous breakdown" in 1964 makes no sense realistically. Perhaps a life-changing panic attack, but not a "nervous breakdown". I very much believe (I hate to say it but I do believe it) Brian probably made up the "nervous breakdown" thing because he was aware of the seriousness of his emotional distress (as he would be obviously) and no one else around him cared as much so no one would take it seriously enough if he just said it was a "panic attack". It makes perfect sense, and there's nothing wrong with that. That just makes a lot more sense than the idea that he actually had a nervous breakdown in 1964.

This album is going to be very hard. But this first round will probably be the only round I don't have to think really hard about it. It's a great song, but

Here is the original organ solo George added to the song, and then the final piano solo at it's normal speed

I'm happy that these are the final 5 songs (though I'm not particularly happy with the order the other ones left).

And I'm happy that my favorite "not a major classic" track made it this far. But it's time now for it to go.

23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Love You Re-Appreciation Thread #2: All Things 'Let Us Go On This Way' on: April 01, 2017, 08:03:58 AM
Hey, Watamushi, you should replace that link for the song with this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7u_ZkA7GUY. The link you posted is not the song.

I think it's a great opener, and one of my favorites on Love You. I've always loved Carl's vocal on it.
