I hope he comes to Minneapolis. I think this time I am going to break down and do the Meet and Greet.
I'm not sure if he's going to do more meet and greets - the last couple shows I've gone to haven't had the option (Minneapolis Christmas show, Surf's Up Milwaukee show)

There was a meet and greet at the Minneapolis Christmas show, but it seems they ended them sometime this year.
2  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Everyone back together for a Beach Boys Q&A for Sirius XM? on: July 31, 2018, 05:32:43 PM
Why didn't they include Blondie Chaplin in this?
After all, he was an official Beach Boy (even if it wasn't for a long time) and has been an important part of Brian's shows for years.
Ricki Fataar seems to be more or less retired, so I understand why he's not there. But Blondie should have been there!

It's hard to say Ricky has retired... he tours constantly with Bonnie Raitt.

Considering that the last "Fleetwood Mac" album wasn't really Fleetwood Mac, is this really a big deal? They trade Stevie Nicks' absence for Lindsey Buckingham's absence.

Huh? The last FM album was Say You Will (2003) which wasn't missing Stevie, but rather Christine.

Booked VIP seating for me and my wife for the April 2nd show at the City Winery in Chicago! VERY excited! Grin

My wife and I are 22 and 23 years old respectfully so I imagine we'll probably be amongst the youngest couples there.

If my girlfriend was able to attend, we'd be matched!

Did Al do a signing table after the Phoenix show?

Holy crap guys....

That is Dennis' "Tune L" listed right there! I am now even MORE excited!

What is this track? It sounds very un-Beach Boys and more Beatles/Pepper.

Pardon my ignorance, but why do they pre-record music on these types of shows?

I believe it's done to keep things easy. They don't have to sound check a band, worry about things going wrong during the set, and it guarantees a perfect outcome.

I did catch that... just wish Mike's signature wasn't ruined or that it was personalized by Billy. Or else I would have picked that up instantly!
9  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Meeting Brian & Al vs Mike & Bruce on: May 20, 2017, 10:41:20 AM
Mike seemed jetlagged to f*** and was extremely quiet - I don't recall if he said much of anything - but gamely posed for photos and so on.

I've always found Mike to be that way. Usually quiet and slow moving, but not rude.

I was at the Appleton, WI show a couple weeks ago as well! I met Mike before the show and he signed a couple of my albums. Bruce refused to sign them and said "I have to get to work" and ran off.

I have met Bruce on a few occasions and you never know what you'll get with him. He can be the nicest guy in the world one day and then downright rude the next.

Al is overall a nice guy, but some people have noted that he's a bit crankier these days than what he used to be. This touring schedule has to be wearing down on those guys. Met him in Milwaukee after the show last month and he was nice.

At best, I'd say I had a decent encounter with Blondie. I waited after the show in Nashville to have him signed my Carl and The Passions and he just ignored me. A couple weeks later in Chicago he did sign something for me, but he doesn't seem very interested to meet fans unless they're in the meet and greet.

Bruce said today that they're learning Aren't You Glad. Great news!

If my house ever burns down, first things I go for will be my Pet Sounds and Sunflower LP's, both personally signed over the years by Brian, Carl, Mike, Al and Bruce. Absolutely priceless. Sunflower signed in the centerfold.

Oh man... that's great.

Were they very strict about no signing? Almost unbelievable that you can't even get one thing signed for $500...
At least at the show I was at, there was no way you would be able to get anything signed via the meet and greet. The woman who manages the whole VIP thing is right in front of you taking pictures, and she said multiple times there won't be any signing. I wish they stuck to the two personal items thing that they used the last leg of the tour.
That's a real bummer. I've often advocated that the $500 price tag for these meet & greets were reasonable due to the value of the ticket and the value of the items you could get signed. Not anymore. I assume the book was pre-signed? Any chance we could see a photo? After the debacle with Premiere Collectibles, I would be hesitant of anything "signed" by Brian that I didn't personally witness...
https://ibb.co/fHPirF < There's a picture of the book I got with the package. Yes it was pre-signed, so I'm not going to trust that it's authentic. I honestly didn't think it was even close to being worth it. The meet and greet felt like people said it was during C50, enough time for a quick handshake and picture before you got rushed out. The whole thing was finished in 10 minutes, so it's not like they had to stop doing signing due to time.
There's a picture of it if you follow the link above. Definitely physically signed.

Yep, looks good to me. Interesting that they had him sign in silver marker on that page instead of the usual title page.

Does anyone here who did a meet and greet this year have a photo of the signed book they gave out?

Want to make sure they aren't passing out auto-pen books like some of us dealt with last fall.
15  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Do you have anything signed by Carl? on: March 30, 2017, 09:23:23 PM
I have been meaning to ask for photos of the books that they're handing out at the meet and greets. I haven't heard of any complaints yet... so I hope they're good.

Marty, those are some beautiful pieces! Some of the best I have seen, actually. I have had good luck with meeting Mike, Al, Bruce, Blondie, Ricky, and David outside of venues. I avoid meet and greets because I can't afford them. I also don't really buy fully signed pieces a lot because I love getting the autographs myself. It means a lot more to me if I got the autographs myself than if I were to just buy them. Unfortunately, I was only a couple years old when Carl passed away. I truly wish I could have met him.

Mr. Desper, that Sunflower is amazing! I have never seen a Sunflower signed by Carl. One of my favorite Beach Boys albums, too!

Everyone is teasing me here! But I can totally understand. It would be hard for me to part with any autographs I got in person as well.

I do appreciate the input, though!

I truly do appreciate the responses, by the way. I'm glad other people are as passionate about it as I am!

I've always heard that Carl was nice and signed, but I am having the hardest time coming across his autographs online. I've probably spent the last year or so constantly looking on a certain auction site and there has been very little to come up. Either they were priced too high or they weren't legitimate.

Posting on here was actually one of my last efforts to see if anyone has anything signed by him. I can understand how hard it is to give up an autograph, I have plenty of things I wouldn't give up in my collection. Like I mentioned in my initial post, my intentions are to add the remaining members and in essence get them as complete as they can be.

I am looking to buy things signed by Carl Wilson. Beach Boys related photos, picture sleeves, albums covers, a piece of paper, etc. Anything I can have living members sign!

I can offer money or do trades. I am a younger collector and would love to add a couple more things signed by Carl to my collection. You can post them in this thread or shoot me a message!

If for some reason this kind of post isn't allowed, my apologies! Thanks!
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys after Mike Love? on: November 17, 2016, 10:44:10 AM
I truly hope not. I enjoy seeing Mike and Bruce's Beach Boys, but without those two it wouldn't be The Beach Boys. The touring members, while talented, are not Beach Boys and should not tour under that name.

A friend showed me some signed posters they were selling at the recent BW San Diego show and they looked good. If I was there, I probably would have bought one.

There were signed posters specifically for the two San Francisco shows I saw too and those looked correct and legit as well.

Whoops, I meant San Fransisco!

I agree that the signed PBS sets look to be legit. Wish I would have bought one!
