Hey guys,

I haven't been on the forum in a little while because I have been working a lot. The company I work for now, Music United, is holding a sweepstake until the end of the year where they are giving away Dimebag Crybaby Wah Wah Pedals with free shipping. http://www.amazon.com/Dunlop-Dimebag-Signature-Crybaby-Pedal/dp/B000EEJ6C0 <-- one on amazon.

Basically, if you want one of these Wah Wah Pedals, you just have to sign up for the website. beta.musicunited.com.

Music United is an aggregation site for musicians that lets you do everything on all of your music sites from one place. So when you make new music or get comments you don't have to log into facebook, then twitter, then soundcloud, then bandcamp, then purevolume, then itunes...etc.

Good luck!

I think the Beach Boys should avoid using old material like "waves of love" and "do it again" as much as humanly possible. I'm up for some new music.

In my perfect dream world, this little section would go on just a little bit longer.

"You're under arrest! Lock him up *handcuff noise*"

my children were raised...

I am ULTRA slow at getting in on this conversation, but can someone tell me who is producing the tracks on the Smile Box Set? I would like to know if they have the chops to bring this music to life today.

I think maybe it might be a little faster than the original, just by a half second. But its really great!!
8  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: One man band albums on: August 14, 2011, 05:30:58 PM
All my albums are a one man band, with the exception of backing vocals, does that count?

well anyway, this album is completely me without anyone else playing on it http://www.last.fm/music/The+Lexingtons/Choose+Choice

Jay, the person who made that fan mix is a member of this board that you probably already know. I am sending you a personal message right now with his username. He told me not to post it publicly though. Have to respect his wishes on that.

Also, dubious blog?! There isn't a more dependable and trustworthy blog in the world.

I might post a video of me playing this as written on the chord chart later.

CORRECTION: I played the chords on guitar here: http://youtu.be/NMgN0fME2ew

I learned a lot about this song too. +1

I knew the chords on piano, but seeing them on a guitar is very eye opening to what Carl's fingers must have been going through every night of his life! hahahaha

You guys are awesome. Not only did you give him what he asked for, you also taught him, so he'll recognize those chords next time and a few songs from now won't ever need a chord chart again. =]

I also want to have an official date. Its sort of like when you are asking a girl out on a date, you want to know WHEN you can pick her up so it seems like she is actually interested instead of just saying yes to not seem rude but then never calls you.

I have stake in this conversation
17  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Re: About Making Music. on: February 20, 2011, 04:22:36 PM
I'm not sure if anyone cares what I have to say, but here goes!

When I am writing a song I try to clear my mind completely and sit down at my piano. Then I hit just one note.

After hitting this one note I like to have a melody come to my mind.

After hearing the melody I then figure out what kind of chord to make over the note (major, minor, 7th, 9th, augmented, diminished, or a major or minor 7th with a wild, unexpected bass note)

and from there I just try to figure out the usual 3 or 4 song chord structure based on my melody in my head.

Next I try to write a bridge by using the opposite chord as my first chord (for example if my verse started with C major, my bridge will start with A minor), although this is obviously not a LAW.

From there, depending on how much energy I have I will write a completely different section of the song using just the melody and then try to bring in the original chord structure underneath it with some extra instruments and melodies, just to make the song's finish more epic.

I have done this technique probably 50 times.

19  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Re: New Lexingtons Double Album available for free on: January 03, 2011, 10:41:29 AM
Thank you Alex! That means a lot to me. The 2 new albums are both way better than the original and mixed better.

I want to tell you about my newest idea for an album. I want to like record the usual pop songs, nit when I'm finished with the recording I want to cut it up into 10,000 little clips and rearrange them randomly (or according to some kind of pattern) and make a "Structural music album".

It might sound really rad.
20  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Re: A Couple New Songs on: January 03, 2011, 10:39:20 AM
These are killer Luther. It was a difficult year for everyone to record music. Everybody has been so broke and busy. I think next year will be better though. You just need to find that excitement again.

These 2 songs are really great though. I have them on repeat.
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: SMiLEReconstruction is gone on: January 02, 2011, 10:44:46 AM
I hate making lists. It's my least favorite thing to do. But needless to say, a lot of stuff has gone missing since 2007, but some people out there still have everything. I am not one of them though.

I used to really care about having every beach boys track imaginable (i had over 10,000 tracks at one point) but its hard to care that much anymore.

But did anyone actually enjoy the release? That's all I care about.
