Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: My Brian Wilson Review Gettin in Over My Head

"How Can We Still Be Dancin" is pretty bad. I love Elton and love Brian but I just can't get into it. I don't even understand the sentiment. Brian doesn't dance. When you write a song with lyrics that you don't even mean, what the hell is that? No wonder it didn't turn out right. "Brian, write a song!" "Yes Mam". This is what happens.
So I guess all the surf songs Brian wrote aren't good either eh? I think you put to much emphasis on lyrics Or are you being sarcastic I can't tell

Smiley Smile Stuff / Brian Wilson Solo Albums / Re: Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE

I agree. A friend of mind loves this record and has never heard The Boys' own version of it.
Exactly the same thing happened to me, my friend lent me BWPS and I had never listened to any Beach Boy music before. Once I listened to BWPS all the way through one night I was completely blown away. It was like nothing I had ever heard before, a whimsical, enchanting and mysterious musical journey. After only listening to BWPS for months on end I went over to Pet Sounds, then to the Sounds of Summer compilation, and finally to the SMiLE Sessions on itunes (just picked it on Vinyl as well ) And the bruiteur mix is stunning, as if Wonderful and Surfs Up couldn't get any better

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: SMiLE Boots - How did they evolve, and how many are there?

There are so many out there, but I'd pick the 3971 mix as my favorite. It is edited perfectly and combines all the missing parts featured in BWPS with the newer stuff. 1971 Surf's Up + Violin/Trumpet reprise? Yes please But, if I were one of the old guard and had picked up a Smile boot 20 years ago, I'm sure my answer would be different, since 3971 is more just a specific mix than an actual bootleg. Just listened to the 3971 mix and it is my favorite now as well, thanks!

As I found out during the Beach Boys Survivor threads, this song is very underrated. I love it! It's an essential centrepiece from Smile, and it just wouldn't be the same without it!
Totally agree, it adds a dark undertone to the final suite and feels perfect as kind of a wind up to the last two tracks. I showed my dad this track in the car one day and he said it was like a nightmare.

Imagine it's the next "walk the line", that would be mind blowing.
Totally, or the next 'Ray' Also something to note if it hasn't been said already, on the imdb casting section it shows a person playing Brian Wilson 'present'. Will be interesting to see how they incorporate that, possibly as last few moments of the film?
