1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why don't we have a true autobiography from the guys? We want one! on: June 03, 2014, 02:18:27 PM
I feel that there are enough books and videos out there to be honest, nothing like the Beatles anthology of course but enough for a person interested in the Beach Boys to really get deep into the material from either fans or historians. But who knows, maybe if Love and Mercy does well it could spark interest for a book/documentary officially released by the Beach Boys.

I have yet to find Pet Sounds on vinyl in any of my local record shops, sweet find!
3  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: My Brian Wilson Review Gettin in Over My Head on: April 28, 2014, 10:45:03 PM

"How Can We Still Be Dancin" is pretty bad.  I love Elton and love Brian but I just can't get into it.  I don't even understand the sentiment.  Brian doesn't dance.   When you write a song with lyrics that you don't even mean, what the hell is that?  No wonder it didn't turn out right.  "Brian, write a song!" "Yes Mam".   This is what happens.

So I guess all the surf songs Brian wrote aren't good either eh?  I think you put to much emphasis on lyrics
Or are you being sarcastic I can't tell Tongue

Pretty neat idea, the lyrics and imagery definitely feel like it sometimes. I would imagine 'Fire' is the nightmare part of the dream eh
5  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Re: Wouldn't It Be Nice - Instrumental Track Re-Creation on: April 19, 2014, 06:37:53 AM
Sounds awesome! Are you going to try and put the original vocals over top? or just keep it instrumental?
6  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Weirdest Photos of Brian Wilson you can find on: April 18, 2014, 09:08:46 PM
I find it endearing that Brian Wilson drives himself to a liquor store that also sells ice cream novelties and walks out with a bottle of water.

Who know's, could have needed to use the restroom   Huh Huh Huh Huh Huh
7  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Bands/singers you've mixed up on: April 17, 2014, 05:11:54 PM
Definitely got mixed up with a lot of grunge bands, also mixed up Bob Dylan with Donovan a couple times when I first started getting into Dylan.
8  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Music inspired from the 60's on: April 14, 2014, 09:11:39 PM
Hello all, I would love to hear your input on my bands two songs that are very much inspired from the music of The Beach Boy's and many other late sixties bands.
Thank you very much

10  Smiley Smile Stuff / Brian Wilson Solo Albums / Re: Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE on: April 03, 2014, 09:54:44 PM
I agree. A friend of mind loves this record and has never heard The Boys' own version of it.

Exactly the same thing happened to me, my friend lent me BWPS and I had never listened to any Beach Boy music before. Once I listened to BWPS all the way through one night I was completely blown away. It was like nothing I had ever heard before, a whimsical, enchanting and mysterious musical journey. After only listening to BWPS for months on end I went over to Pet Sounds, then to the Sounds of Summer compilation, and finally to the SMiLE Sessions on itunes (just picked it on Vinyl as well  Cheesy)

And the bruiteur mix is stunning, as if Wonderful and Surfs Up couldn't get any better   Smiley

12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: SMiLE Boots - How did they evolve, and how many are there? on: February 18, 2014, 10:45:08 AM
There are so many out there, but I'd pick the 3971 mix as my favorite. It is edited perfectly and combines all the missing parts featured in BWPS with the newer stuff. 1971 Surf's Up + Violin/Trumpet reprise? Yes please  Grin

But, if I were one of the old guard and had picked up a Smile boot 20 years ago, I'm sure my answer would be different, since 3971 is more just a specific mix than an actual bootleg.

Just listened to the 3971 mix and it is my favorite now as well, thanks!
13  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What's the Corniest? on: January 29, 2014, 04:32:37 PM
I know there's already one for songs but what's the corniest video or t.v. appearance you've ever seen from the guys? these two tie for me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MdwhxyYDXE and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBFsJk6PWu0

Whoa I didn't even know there was a second leave it to beaver show, and besides the cheesy dance skit Brian doesn't make a half bad teacher

16  Smiley Smile Stuff / Smile Sessions Box Set (2011) / Re: TSS - All things Mrs O'Leary's Cow on: January 19, 2014, 07:44:35 PM
As I found out during the Beach Boys Survivor threads, this song is very underrated. I love it! It's an essential centrepiece from Smile, and it just wouldn't be the same without it!

Totally agree, it adds a dark undertone to the final suite and feels perfect as kind of a wind up to the last two tracks. I showed my dad this track in the car one day and he said it was like a nightmare.

Meant for you, you! or me?
18  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Pictures from \ on: January 14, 2014, 08:55:09 PM
Imagine it's the next "walk the line", that would be mind blowing.

Totally, or the next 'Ray'
Also something to note if it hasn't been said already, on the imdb casting section it shows a person playing Brian Wilson 'present'. Will be interesting to see how they incorporate that, possibly as last few moments of the film?
19  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The very worst Beach Boys related 'song' ever released on: January 14, 2014, 01:41:29 PM
Thanks for opening my eyes to all of these songs, I actually really like Hey Little Tomboy besides the terrible lyrics which make me laugh especially when Carl sings "Time to turn into a girl" after the first verse.
And for choice of worst song, no doubt 'summer of love' takes the top spot. It feels like a comedy song/sketch that should have appeared on SNL.
