I lived in the Bay area in the 1970's through the 1990's and was a regular reader of the San Francisco Chronicle. Joel Selvin was a music critic for them and a rather harsh critic of the Beach Boys. Even when he praised them it was backhanded. You see, this was San Francisco and it was way too hip for the Beach Boys, I caught a lot of flack for my obsession but I did win some people over. I would take whatever Selvin says with a grain of salt

I just read the Dalton article again and it made me think that someone should really do a tv series about the Beach Boys where incidents like Zuma Beach etc. are dramatized. They could really get into detail, you know, all the famous and funny incidents involving Brian. Coming to Netflix.

Yep, you're correct it is the Groovies, my mistake. It's from a thread on the other board. Coincidently I was the other guy in the room with Les and John Pickens when we gave Brian the third degree. He was completely there mentally but somewhat coked up. It was December, 1981 at the Dunfy Hotel in San Jose.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Brian's daily routine

Was just reading a story of an encounter of some of the Flaming Lips with Brian in the 1970's. It got me to thinking, as I have over the years, what was Brian's daily routine like in the first half of the '70's, you know, before Landy," Brian is Back " and touring again. I think we know he didn't spend two years in bed. Stuff like that has always fascinated me.

I lived in the Bay area for 20 years back in the 1970's and '80's and I used to read Joel Selvin reviews in the San Francisco Chronicle. Selvin used to give the Beach Boys some tough write-ups. He actually worked for the Beach Boys in 1976 in publicity but he had to keep up the San Francisco hipper than thou attitude when it came to the Beach Boys. Sounds like an interesting book though.

Maybe it had something to do with being involved with Landy because that's when it seemed to surface. Possibly because this was the start of his solo career he wanted a new sound. His voice sounds remarkably like the lead on the MFQ's on TCBTN.
