176  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Surf's Up Alternate Track Order on: July 18, 2014, 02:16:47 PM

I called it Landlocked because I displaced "Surf's Up" back to where it belongs.

1. Loop de Loop
2. Take a Load Off Your Feet
3. Disney Girls (1957)
4. 4th of July
5. Don't Go Near The Water
6. Sound of Free
7. Fallin' In Love
8. Feel Flows
9. 'Til I Die (Desper Mix)
10. A Day In The Life of a Tree
11. (Wouldn't It Be Nice To) Live Again

Half goofy/half darkly depressing and more Dennis-centric.

Anybody else think Spector's 1970s work with Dion, Leonard Cohen, and The Ramones is some of his best?

Yes.  Smokin

Death of a Ladies' Man is a shambling, drunken, recklessly beautiful album.

179  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Greatest Albums of 1966 on: July 18, 2014, 01:33:34 PM
Thank you kindly. I do take pride in my collection. Listening to music takes up a substantial fraction of my time. I currently have so far: Top 50 albums of every year from 1965 - 1978 as well as a Top 600 Albums of All Time. The latter is very biased so I've left that on the back burner for now. Everyone feel free to post your own lists, be they Top 5 or Top 50.
180  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Greatest Albums of 1966 & Onward on: July 18, 2014, 12:31:24 PM
I've compiled many greatest albums lists in my day and would like to see how others would compile, in their own opinions, their personal greatest albums lists. I chose to share with the board my 1966 list, as Pet Sounds is my favorite album of all and is relevant to this board, in particular. If this thread is relatively successful I have many other lists compiled that I would enjoy sharing. *In no way have I come up with a scientific process to accurately portray these albums in order, aside from perhaps the top 10 or 20, varying from list to list.*

Antony and The Johnsons - I Am A Bird Now... hands down.
182  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Alex Chilton and Brian on: July 18, 2014, 11:44:18 AM
My first Big Star album was Third/Sister Lovers. I fell in love with it upon first listen. Highly experimental and emotive. "Kangaroo" is one of the most beautiful, harrowing songs I've ever heard. Radio City is the greatest 70's bludgeoning-power-pop album of all time. #1 Record is only slightly less substantial musically as the aforementioned, (easily disputable,) but in my opinion, contains absolute essentials per "Feel," "Ballad of El Goodo," "In The Street," "Thirteen," "My Life Is Right," alongside a handful of beautiful acoustic tracks, and still ranks among the greatest albums of all time. I Am The Cosmos, too, is a fantastic listen, most appropriately paired with Radio City.

Note - Never would have thought my first words on a Beach Boys board would be regarding Big Star.

Heresy, right?
