Are there any Wilsons that have NOT been physically assaulted by the Love/Pamplin posse?

I find it interesting that many here will question the intestinal fortitude of Brian and Dennis for not standing up to a thug who just clobbered their drunk brother, while simultaneously slinging insults at other posters across oceans as they themselves hide behind fake names on this board.

He also wrote "River Boat" and "Occapella" that Van Dyke Parks covered on Discover America.  RIP...
429  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Rest in Peace Cory Wells on: October 21, 2015, 02:37:54 PM
Cory Wells, of Three Dog Night fame, passed away sometime last night.  Details not available as to cause of death, but he was from Buffalo, NY (an hour from me) and they've been doing a tribute to him on the radio.  One of his nieces called in and said he died peacefully at home with family at his side.  She raved about what a great family man he was.  Condolences to those who knew him.

Arguing with people about what they like or don't like is pointless.  It's like when my kids were little, and I'd want them to try a new food - lets say spinach - and they'd ask "does spinach taste good?"  And I'd say "it tastes good - if you like spinach".

Bumped this thread just to say that, every once in a while, I just get in this mood where I truly believe ADULT CHILD to be AMAZING!  Mama's little baby loves shortnin, shortnin...

I decided against it...

That's hysterical, but also quite possibly true!!!

Warren Zevon was amazing...
436  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Jack Rieley has passed... on: April 21, 2015, 04:49:42 PM
RIP Jack... sad news.

Parts of the Western Justice album periodically get stuck in my mind - "No Rain" and the title track in particular - though I haven't heard it in 20 years.

Jack did make the band as "cool" as they ever were... he deserves a lot of credit for that.

And ADITLOAT is classic, perfect, and one of my favorite songs ever.  Brian was right to have Jack take the vocal!

Thanks for that, Rocker!  A great moment in the bands history!
438  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: No Pier Pressure (board member reviews) on: April 16, 2015, 11:37:53 PM
My two cents...

First off, I don't agree with rating the album on a "one-to-five stars" scale.  That would mean we are limited to giving it a 20,40,60,80 or 100.  I will go with a scale from 0-100.

I give the album a 90.

After three listens, my rating would have been a 65.  But the more I've listened, the more I've liked it.  In comparison, I gave Imagination and GIOMH the same chance, playing each at least a dozen times before judging.  Both of those albums failed miserably in terms of "growing" on me.  NPP is a "grower".

It's not perfect.  A bit too jazzy for my taste.  A bit more slick than I like in spots.  And there are a couple of tunes that seem to end rather abruptly.  But I like all the guest vocalist spots a good deal.  Hearing Blondie with a lead vocal is a beautiful thing.  Al is a treasure.  And Brian's vocals are his best in ages.

There it is, short and sweet...
439  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: For all of us OLD TIMERS (Andrew Doe, etc.) on: March 16, 2015, 04:26:27 PM
Mikie, there were 7 issues of FOTBB.  Issue 7 included a free cassette of "AGD's Secret Bedroom Tapes", which featured unexplained animal noises...  Andrew subsequently bought every copy for some reason...

Wow, Mikie, you canceled your subscription to FOTBB after one issue?  Then you never got the issue with the free cassette of "Brian's Secret Bedroom Tapes"?

This is corny but...

Here we are in 2015, with Brian still making wonderful music, still touring, still giving people a reason to smile every day!  I sit here listening to Pet Sounds,  basking in the immense beauty and perfection that Brian and the group gave us all those years ago.  I sit here wondering if enough of us really grasp the miracle we have in Brian.  I want to take this opportunity to just say thanks to Brian for all he has given us...

Didn't know of her passing till I just checked this thread. Very sad news.  One of the all-time greats, she will be missed.

That settles it - the album is coming out sometime between the past and the future...
Hope I live to see it!

Buddy Holly. Imagine what he might have done if not for his premature death. Such gorgeous songs.

Summer in Paradise is best enjoyed with the volume at zero, or after removing one's hearing aid battery...
