I think of this song every time I brush my thinning hair…

Greatly relieved to have the board back!  I wish folks here and on the other boards would stop the “pissing matches” over “our site is better than their site”. We’re all fans of the same music, let’s move on.

One of the greatest voices in pop/rock history!  I Wish I Never Saw the Sunshine… Try Some, Buy Some… and sometimes Tandori Chicken gets stuck in my head! And of course all the hits. Rest In Peace.

Rest In Peace.  Some great solo stuff, in addition to his work with the Monkees.  Loose Salute and Magnetic South are great albums.

I’m confused.  Hearing a cover band doing I Can Hear Music on a commercial is a “FINALLY” moment?
32  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Is it fair to call for an artist to quit? on: December 02, 2021, 03:23:45 PM
Years ago, I had an opportunity to see Frank Sinatra perform in his later years but did not go. I’ve regretted it ever since. I should have gone, not because he was at peak form, but because Frank Sinatra is - FRANK SINATRA!!!  If Sinatra wanted to perform in public, who the hell am I to tell him to quit?

I saw Brian Wilson in concert in Rochester New York in October. Did I expect “the best performance I’ve ever witnessed in my life”?  No, I did not.  I expected to see BRIAN FUCKING WILSON!!!  The most integral part of my musical life, and I consider it a great honor that he allowed me to see him and hear him, though he is 79 years old.

If you don’t like his concerts, don’t go. If you can’t garner enjoyment from him doing something like “Honeycomb” on a release, don’t buy it.

To me, I just want him to be happy as often as possible.

I just watched the documentary and have to say that I am overwhelmed emotionally. I cried at several points. Seeing Brian recording in the studio was a joyous experience for me. And I have to say that I’m kind of ashamed of the occasional criticism of Brian’s vocals, or performance, or songwriting that occur when people review “Brian Wilson”.  He is 79 years old.  He will never again sound like he did when he was 22 or 33 or 60. He has trouble walking around. Brian won’t do another Pet Sounds, I’m fairly sure.  But, my lord, he has given me more joy in my life that any other artist, by far.  To simply see him and hear him, that’s enough for me.  The guy is still LIVING, for goodness sake.  Look at what the man has given all of us, for nearly 60 years!  I truly love this man and thank him for giving me so many happy moments in my life. God bless Brian.

Fab - ironically, I’m watching “2010” as I type this and just heard “my God it’s full of stars!”

Anyway, I love the poster idea! Well done!

Beach Boys version could be “Getcha Back” or maybe “Watch Your Back”!!!

I think Jack did about all he could in the shiitshow that is “Beach Boys politics”.

I saw Brian at the Kodak Center in Rochester last night! Very nice venue, with approximately 60% of the seats taken. But a very enthusiastic crowd, including me screaming like a banshee! Brian was in great form, took a lot of leads and seemed very engaged generally.  It didn’t look like Brian played at all while at the piano but that’s expected. Al didn’t have to jump in mid-song to bail him out, lol.  Blonde didn’t appear on stage till past the mid-point and sang Feel Flows, Long Promised Road and Sail on Sailor before again leaving the stage for a bit.  Al did Rhonda and had a couple of other leads.  Matt nailed Don’t Worry Baby and was in great form, as was Darian for his leads on Darlin and one other.  Great band, that goes without saying.  Brian only looked disinterested during Barbara Ann, can’t say I blame him.  Blondie roamed the stage when he didn’t have a lead and Brian kind of looked at him like “ok, this guy is weird!”  Add Some Music was beautiful and Al mentioned the box set when introducing Blondie for Feel Flows. Absolutely a great night!  Oh, I also saw a guy wearing a Bruce Johnston “Going Public” shirt - I told him there were probably more T-shirts sold for that album than actual album sales, he laughed and said “that’s cruel but probably true!”

One of my favorite songs, this gets stuck in my head occasionally. “Three lit-tle girls came skip-ping through the park, talk-ing bout little boys and getting home before it’s dark”!  Pure bliss!

I agree about the blind spot that many fans have about Dennis.  You rarely find a negative comment about anything related to Dennis, including his music.  Can you imagine Al Jardine going home at the end of a tour and talking to his wife about how f’d up the guys in the band are?

If they attempt a Summer in Paradise box set, all three of Mark, Alan and Howie may need a therapist…
