Ian and I went round about this... What's the deal with anyone covering a full album of Croce? Mike Love did it... good enough for me!

This topic might be an interesting question for Mr. Desper- see what kind of insight he can bring to this since that's a format he'd master for. Completely curious, now.
53  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why Were 7"'s at 45rpms? on: February 27, 2006, 01:44:43 PM
I forgot how long Hey Jude is... 5:30-ish? That was long for a 45 at that time. I think that steaming pile, American Pie clocks in at over 7 minutes. Imagine how terrible that sounds on 45! The song itself sounds terrible, to me.

The faster the speed of a record (up to a point) the better it sounds. As Jeff sez, SP mode vs EP on a VCR.
If the record plays slower, there's more information a record has to contain within a certain space. For optimum sound, an album shouldn't contain more than 20 to 22 mintues of music per side. Anything more, the information has to be jammed closer together, thusly sounds worse. A 45 RPM should contain no more than 5 minutes per side or quality is compromised. The more information that is packed onto a record, the tighter and more shallow the grooves become and in the process informnation will be lost. Deeper grooves provide for a more broad sound. Speed + space available + time = sound quality. Don't ask me to explain it in terms of KHZ & HTZ, I'm not that bright!  Smiley
Found out all this technical jive when I researched pressing info of vinyl for my band's 45s, LPs, & EPs.
Interesting, really.

Monkee Knutz, that was the best post on this subject I've seen so far.
Wha... thank you. The fart was the best part- had to get that outta me!

Since Chuck- asked here's my take.
I'm here to have fun and at most expenses, I will have just that. I'm not here to insult or offend anyone intentionally, and if I do, don't take it personally, they're just words. If I'm that far out of line, I will appologize, and I will only do that if I'm WAY OUT OF LINE.
I think most content should be accepted here and not much taboo. Politics, religion, race, and sex are all part of life. If there's a thread that involves one that you might have strong negative feelings about- don't go there. It's as simple as that. Like george Carlin says (dated joke, now, but you get the point): "there are 2 dials on a television- one turns it on & off and the other changes the channel." If you don't like what's there, don't participate. You have other options. For the most part- we're all adults here. I can take insults, ribbing, barbs. I've heard 'em all. In my opinion- If you are offended it's not the fault of the person that wrote that, it's your fault for having an opinion that's that strong.
Everyone lighten up, eh. We're here to have fun, right?

I just farted.

The Syracuse University show from May 1971. That's a fabulous performance.
Which brings a question to mind... where's all the film stock/footage shot for this show?? Has any of it ever been seen?

Tryin' to fool nobody! I just wanted to see what might be said about my friend's band. Michael was listening to Beach Boy overload at the time they recorded this particular track. They are Fortune & Maltese & The Phabulous Pallbearers.
These guys have opened up for ? & The Mysterians, Dick Dale, Mitch Ryder, Link Wray, The Trashmen, among others.
They are inspired by the likes of the above as well as the Standells, The Monkees, Beach Boys, Max Frost & Troopers, et al.
Great hooks, super talented kats, vocal & harmony heavy tunes!! They are a lot of fun! Listen to some of their other goodies.

Warren Oates is one of the most incredible actors to walk the earth.
I think he be dead. However, he certainly was one of the best.
I've never seen Two Lane all the way through only because the opportunity has never presented itself.

Well, there's that  boot of that  LA Light Album tour show where Mike bitches the audience out.....  but listening to Mike's original material from the period and it's obvious that he liked the old formula.
What??  Shocked Shocked
The audience was apparently unwilling to 'chicken dance' with him.  Smiley

Anybody who sees that Shindig clip and does not love Mike Love is no friend of mine.
Maybe liked Mike Love??
His mugging during that era was fine. Once he became a parody of himself (mid 70's & beyond) it got old- quickly.
67  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Frightening foto! on: February 23, 2006, 11:01:26 AM
Geez man... Dig this terrible promo shot. Can you say- Madame Tussauds wax/board museum?
They could only hope to look this good when they're dead.

Don't see why this photo is worse than any of the other ones. Brian and Al don't look so hot either.
the first thing that strikes me as odd is the surfboard- as if either of them have been surfing in the last 20 years. It almost doesn't look like a surfboard at all. Get a 9-5 board if surfin' is the look you're shootin' for. The 2nd thing is the airbrushing to peel off some years from Bruce & Mike. Maybe too much make up. Bruce's hair is dyed. They look like they're getting that transluscent skin that old people get. #3- Mike looks more like Terry Bradshaw- HAHA!! Bruce & Terry!!!!. #4- Bruce looks like he's had a stroke, not heart surgery. The photo... just... doesn't... look... right. Disturbing to me. They just look like wax figures.

It's all about Green Grass!!
If you've got a Gary Lewis CD and this tune is on it- if you are actually somewhere that comes out of spring into summer- BLAST this track in your car on the first day that you can drive with your car window rolled down. It's amazing! Really!

To follow a recommendation from myself  :D I did this today! What a great tune!!!

I would've gone back to 1983 and stopped Dennis from "recovering" his belongings from the dock.
I'd have stepped back further than that. That was just the end result of the inner turmoil that was his life leading up to that fateful dive. It that didn't happen, some thing equally as tragic would have. Just the question of how it would have been played out.

Is it called "Lost In Love?"
