Only 2 I can come up with- Carry Me Home... If there's any BB song that full of nothing but real heart, soul & REAL feeling it's this one. Flattens me up every time. 2nd place goes to the BB's take on The River Song. How did these 2 never escape the vault to a legit release??

Does the Uni box have unreleased goodies?? I want to hear more from his Bang era archive.

The Gene Simmons interview is incredible! I just heard that a few weeks ago. He rips Grossr a new a-hole! Amazing.
Does NPR.org have the archived interview with Neil Young? Their Archive is great, however the Simmons interview is a-miss! I wonder why?!  Grin

I don't find the laughing at the end of Invisible Tears creepy. It is what you make of it.
In retrospect, it's just the events that transpired make this creepy... I can hear some PC individuals saying- "There's nothing funny about Charles Manson laughing."

I saw this wicked wild interview with him in the early 80's. I realized why people were captivated by his persona. I was very drawn to the interview and completely fascinated. I actually wanted to see more after that. I wasn't drawn in the same fashion as the people he brainwashed, but rather saw something in the manner that Denny did. Good or bad... undeniably an interesting character.

Super interesting listen, but some of the vocal leakage onto the existing tracks bugs me. Ian's right- not the hottest song choices.

fodaing... that makes me laugh !!!  Grin
257  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Unreleased Live shows ? on: December 29, 2005, 09:08:20 AM
The BBs need their own bootleg label. Maybe they can find ways to release audience recordings of rarer shows.
Killer idea !! Beach Boys Handmade. Still I Dream Of It label. Sandbox label! Glass Eye records. Or beat the boots and call it- The Sea Of Tunes label! Didn't Pearl Jam have their own private label a handfull of years ago?? If not them then some equally insipid 90's into the 00's band. Great concept, tho.
I think the BB's may be too corporate for a private label- but what a dream!

SWD- killer insight as always!!
Didn't your elementary school teachers tell you that if you brought something to class, you had to share it with everyone else!!  Wink
I kid you! Glad you poke your nose in on other forums!!  Cool

Hey worms- Larry King is one of the worst interviewers- Terry gross is up there with him. Neither listen to the conversation- each only wait to ask the next planned question. A good interviewer will listen to the one being questiond for follow-up question material.

You got it Donald! I hate the hits crap, too. I don't dislike the songs- just the idea of releasing a 'hits only' package.
Unknowingly, Nelson helped to pioneer punk music in a completely unlikely tune, Gershwin's "Summertime" in Nov 1961!!!! The Blues Magoos ripped him off years later. Unintentional pioneer!

I like the sinister laugh at the end of invisible tears. Creepsville, man.  Why is 'My World' cut off??
I've heard his Cease To Exist, but I don't have any of his stuff... Please post more H&V/ Ian!
261  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Remembering Dennis Wilson (1944-1983) on: December 28, 2005, 10:58:52 PM
When I was 10 I had the priveledge of seeing Denny with the BB's on 10.28.78. Show's over- the only encore was Denny. He came out half nekkid (hi Laurie!), soaking wet from sweat (hi again!), played about half of You Are So Beautiful on the piano, stood up on the piano and sang the rest of the song. Voice completely blown-out. He sounded terrible, but the crowd ate it up and went apeshit. Like Oldsurferdude says, it was just about him being there. I knew I was witnessing something special, but didn't know what it was- and in retrospect... I now understand what I didn't know at that time. Something about Denny was magic.
Here's my souvenir from that show- I also came away with a tourbook, some fond memories, and a contact high from the hippie sitting next to me.

$8.50 to see the show. God I miss the past.

Thusly, no one wins since everyone has their own opinion. Opinions really mean nothing, which in the grand scheme of things means nothing anyway! Awesome. What the hell were we talking about...   Huh .... Oh Love You. I do love you though, Luther!   Kiss

Garbage dump, oh garbage dump... why do they call you a garbage dump?  Grin
264  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1970's Beach Boys Albums / Re: The Beach Boys Love You on: December 28, 2005, 02:06:50 PM
So.. let me see if I understand this. If it is not just an opinion but is yet, my belief, my belief stands for more if I don't actually say... in my opinion??? In which case I can say "Love You blows," therefore not just in my opinion... it actually does!!! SCHWEET!!!!  Grin
265  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Remembering Dennis Wilson (1944-1983) on: December 28, 2005, 02:00:10 PM
I was completely bummed, but it didn't hit me to stick to eventually answer the 'where were you when this happened' question. I must have been WAY preoccupied with another part of my life- 10th grade and late puberty (bleeech!). It did however send me on a Beach Boy buying spree and deeper fascination of the cousins, friends, & brothers. I also recall all the major press attention his death brought on. For a guy that died at 39 (I believe?)- he looked far beyond his years. Amazing what substance abuse can do to one's body. Incredible loss. Damn shame.

Awesome set. I've read reviews from people complaining about how Capitol continues to churn out CD's with the engineers playing with faders which constitute a release. I say: keep it coming!! If that's what it takes to release a few oddities with the engineer's whimseies... let it be done!! Couldn't live without Time To Live In Dreams, Lonely Days, extended Vegetables, et al. Where's my clean take of the BB's River Song? I want to hear this in fine fidelity!
267  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1970's Beach Boys Albums / Re: The Beach Boys Love You on: December 28, 2005, 07:57:04 AM
Today on Maury Povich: Beach Boys Love You album... What went wrong? Track by track.
'fraid you're dead fucking wrong on almost every single track.

Luther, my man.. Luther, who are you Bill O'Reilly? Chuck said discuss & give our opinions. Bill O'Reilly asks our opinions, too... and then tells us we're wrong! I can't be wrong... it's my opinion!

It was my favorite thing to listen to for about a year after I first heard it.
And I immediately shelved it after previewing about 20 seconds of every track on side #1, flipped and process repeated on side #2. It remained unlistened to for another 10 or so years. For me it's not how I know the Beach Boys. I don't hate it, mind you, in my eyes/ears it's just not good. I will go as far as to say it's better that the LA (Lame Album). However, both are uninspired.

In my top 5 faves. I do agree if there were more room- toss on Celebrate The News & Breakaway.
Nearest far Away Place is beautiful... magic. I'm gonna put that on right now!  Tongue

It's Kenny-fucking-G, man!

That Kenny G sounds groovy! Maybe I should look into him... there's something I'm missing. Eh, maybe not. But there's something you're missing!  Cool

I don't know how anybody could be turned onto the Beach Boys with that record.
Worked for me! Spirit of America, a Ronco Greatest Hits package & Surfin Safari were the first 3 I owned. Then came Smiley Smile. I had to dig deeper. I thought the same... what-in-the-hell-is-going-on??? Then it clicked. Then it stuck. Then it deranged. Then it helped derail. Then came the onset of obsession & quest for more treasures. Dig in my good friend Einey, dig in.

Used to only like a handful of tracks... then it grew hard & long (someone's gotta comment on that one).
Now it's in my top 5 faves. I used to hate SDT, now I can't imagine it NOT being there. Stellar album.
272  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1980's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Keepin' The Summer Alive on: December 27, 2005, 08:16:35 PM
I want to appreciate it... I want to appreciate it... I want to appreciate it... I want to appreciate it... I really do. I've given it countless chances. Did the same to MIU and that one grew. LA & Love You, didn't however.  Kiss

Good to hear I Write The Songs by the guy who wrote it. I use this album to spiral slice ham.
