376  Smiley Smile Stuff / Concert Reviews / Re: 50th Anniversary Tour: COMPLETE Shows 1 - 74 (SETLIST/PICS/REVIEWS) on: October 26, 2013, 12:28:12 AM
And I really hate myself for not going to Royal Albert Hall's concert! I was so stupid and thought that the one in Wembley would be enough for me  Cry But well anyway it was pretty special to get to see the real living Beach Boys for the last time ever together on stage.
377  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1970's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Sunflower on: October 25, 2013, 11:08:46 PM
I'll give it 4/5. It is closer to five though. I just happen to think it's slightly overrated. Don't get me wrong, I love every song on it. It's very cohesive and there's a lot of Beach Boys classics. But there is couple mediocre songs in the middle too.

Slip On Through 4.5/5
Cool opener!
This Whole World 5/5
Perfect song and one of my all-time favorites. One of the best examples of Brian's genius. Who else could make a song that runs under 2 mins and is this great?
Add Some Music 4.5/5
Wait what they didn't have autotune back in the days!?
Got To Know The Woman 3/5
Nice song but it's definetely not up there with Forever or River song.
Deirdre 3/5
Yeah same here, nice song but this is not Disney Girls.
It's About Time 5/5
Another perfect one! And this even rocks pretty hard.
Tears In The Morning 3.5/5
A little bit better than Deirdre.
All I Wanna Do 4.5/5
Wow! Mike really can sing, at least sometimes.
Forever 5/5
No words needed here.
Our Sweet Love 4/5
As the title says, very sweet.
At My Window 4.5/5
I love the organ intro. And I can't imagine anyone than Bruce singing this. The fade out is one of the best ever.
Cool, Cool Water 5/5
And another perfect one! Brian sounds so cool here. Still I think this is a little bit out of place. Reminds too much of Smile and there it should've been.

For a Beach boys fan the cover art is really cool and awesome but show that to other people and they say it's really cheesy  Tongue I think they just don't get it  Cool
378  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1970's Beach Boys Albums / Re: L.A. (Light Album) on: October 25, 2013, 10:49:12 PM
I'm not gonna give 0/5 for any Beach Boys related song  Roll Eyes The disco-Here comes the night is very well done experience and I always get that dancing feeling when I play that. And those vocals are awesome. I think the best would've been to inculde that 4 min version on this album and keep this long only as a single. Then they could've dumped Sumahama and added couple songs by Dennis or anyone, everybody knows they could do better than this. After those changes this would've been a great album.
379  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1970's Beach Boys Albums / Re: L.A. (Light Album) on: October 25, 2013, 10:04:36 AM
This is pretty odd album. It doesn't have cohesion at all, just songs thrown together. A lot like 20/20. L.A. has couple great songs, many mediocre ones and one that's absolutely horrible and that's Sumahama. I don't want to say a word about than one...

Good Timin' 3/5
Lady Lynda 3/5
I like both of these as much. They are very nice pieces, but nothing special really.

Full Sail 3/5
I love Carl's vocals here. This song has lot of good in it, but it's still somehow boring.

Angel Come Home 4/5
Wow! Can't imagine anyone else than Dennis singing this. The song itself is not special, but he makes it almost a classic.

Love Surrounds Me 4.5/5
This is great, really really great. Doesn't sound like Beach Boys at all. In the good way.

Sumahama 1/5
Not a word.

Here Comes The Night 3.5/5
I love this! The only problem here is that they shouldn't have put the long 10 minute version on the album. It's way too long. But I love disco and this song is really cool. Play this to people and say it's The Beach Boys, they won't ever believe you!

Baby Blue 5/5
Perfect song. Best part is where Dennis comes in. And the ending. It has those crazy sound effects and drums on the background which sound really cool.

Going South 3/5
Good song but somehow a little bit boring.

Shortenin' Bread 3.5/5
Amazing! Truly another great WTF-moment on this album. The other ones are of course Sumahama and HCTN. Once again Dennis rocks!

3/5 for the album. This is mostly a fun album to listen to. And once again, such a shame to look back and think that they hand hands on on a really great album, but they missed it. Once again...
380  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Adult/Child - soniclovenoize reconstruction on: October 21, 2013, 03:18:18 AM
Thanks, this is really great! I'm going to listen this propably for the next couple months in my car  Grin
381  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1970's Beach Boys Albums / Re: The Beach Boys Love You on: October 20, 2013, 01:43:23 PM
Beach Boys Love You is my all time favorite album ever! It's just so genius all the way! I loved it straight on from the first listen, and it still gets better and better on every listen. I've heard it hundreds of times. 5/5.

Let Us Go On This Way 5/5
Carl's really rocking out here!
Roller Skating Child 5/5
Propably the best classic fun rock tune Beach Boys ever did after Fun, Fun, Fun.
Mona 5/5
My personal favorite. Simple and touching.
Johnny Carson 3.5/5
This is a weird one. I like the song very much but it doesn't fit to the context of the album at all. Johnny Carson WTF?
Good Time 4/5
Little bit out of place, but fit's lyrically very well.
Honkin' Down The Highway 4.5/5
Really great song, Al shines as always. The drum intro is super cool.
Ding Dang 5/5
GENIUS! (Should've been a little longer though)
Solar System 4/5
Another weird one. It's a lot better than Johnny Carson. Funny lyrics.
The Night Was So Young 5/5
Masterpiece.
I'll Bet He's Nice 5/5
Another masterpiece. I love to hear all the three brothers singing. Those harmonies! wow!
Let's Put Our Hearts Together 4/5
Really touching little song. I like Marilyn's voice.
I Wanna Pick You Up 4.5/5
Would be 5/5 song without that "pat her on her butt"-line. Can't help it but that just sounds too weird. The last line "she's going to sleep" is so awesome!
Airplane 5/5
One of the best Mike vocals ever.  The fake ending and the last part after that is really cool. It could be longer, but it's still great. Brian sounds really cool here.
Love Is A Woman 4/5
I think it's a great song and it sums up the whole LP pretty nicely.

Pet Sounds, Love You and That's Why God Made the Radio's couple first songs + the last 4 songs make a perfect trilogy.
382  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1970's Beach Boys Albums / Re: The M.I.U. Album on: October 20, 2013, 12:10:28 PM
Oh no, now I discovered 'MIU'...my life continues to change, my BBs obsession is driving friends away, work colleagues to look weird at me and my girlfriend to get mad whenever I put 'Matchpoint' on replay mode.

That's exactly like me!

I love M.I.U. It's not Pet Sounds or Love You or even 15 Big ones  LOL And Adult/Child would've been 10 better than M.I.U. album that's for sure. But still, this one has good stuff too. Though I have learned that I shouldn't play this to anyone else. Others don't really seem to dig this. I just wonder why  angel I love the production. It's really 70's. Drums, strings everything. That's propably the biggest turn-off for people. I happen to like cheesy 70's sounds. The one thing I really hate in this album is the cover art. It's really stupid. Almost ruins the whole listening experience. That's how bad it is. BUT I have to brag a little bit. I have a copy signed by Al. I'm not 100 % sure though if it's real or not, I could post a pic of it and ask what you guys think. But then again who the hell would be crazy enough to make a fake signature to M.I.U.'s cover?  LOL

She's Got Rhythm 4/5
I love this song, Brian's "forced" falsetto is really cool. Still I completely understand why some people hate it.

Come Go with Me 4/5
Cool cover! The intro is so awesome.

Hey Little Tomboy 2.5/5
Pretty embarassing. I like the music, but the lyrics are too much.

Kona Coast 3.5/5
Mike sounds actually cool here. Funny song.

Peggy Sue 3/5
Mediocre.

Wontcha Come Out Tonight 4/5
Up there with She's Got Rhytm. Brian does awesome job with the vocals! This proofs he didn't loose his voice anywhere during the mid-70's.

Sweet Sunday Kinda Love 3/5
Mediocre.

Belles of Paris 3/5
More mediocre stuff.

Pitter Patter 4/5
Really cool! It could rock more though. Al sounds great as always.

My Diane 5/5
The best song of the album. Dennis just can't do wrong with a lead. Oh why didn't Brian finnish Adult/Child  Cry

Match Point of Our Love 4.5/5
Another standout! One of Brian's best vocals ever. And I actually like the lyrics too. The sound of the drums and strings gives me almost too good vibes...

Winds of Change 1.5/5
Boring and really bad. I skip this one always.

So that's a solid 3/5 for the album. It's not a masterpiece, but very listenable for what it is. Only one unlistenable song,  5 mediocre and  6 awesome ones!
383  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: The Beatles *sigh* on: October 17, 2013, 10:02:28 AM
Am I the only one here who thinks Let It Be is the best Beatles album? I don't like pre-Sergeant Pepper stuff that much... Revolver for example is really overrated. Abbey Road's A-side is amazing. And the White album seems interesting, I haven't listened it entirely yet. Let It Be is awesome, it doesn't sound like The Beatles at all... Maybe because it has balls  LOL  Two of Us, Dig a Pony, Across the Universe, I Me Mine, Let It Be, The Long and Winding Road are all amazing songs. The rest are good too, but those are my favorites.
384  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: All I Want To Do on: October 17, 2013, 08:17:48 AM
There's an idea for a new compilation" The Beach Boys Let Rip, featuring 20 great rocking Beach Boys tracks. All I Want To Do, Susie Cincinnati, Slip On Through, Keepin' The Summer Alive.... what else?
That's awesome idea! =) It's about time should be there too.
385  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1960's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!) on: October 17, 2013, 07:51:20 AM

Curious ratings, dude. Only 3.5 for motherf*ckin' "Rhonda"? Shocked And while I've always liked "Bugged", I'd never give it 4/5 - more than you'd award "Salt Lake" or "Then I Kissed Her"? Tongue Diggin' your enthusiasm for "Girl Don't Tell Me" and "You're So Good To Me", though.

Just sayin' - curious ratings. Wink
Yeah, I understand that Smiley I like Rhonda's Today! version more, and I like the live versions, but I'm not very keen on this one. And Bugged... well yeah true, of course Then I Kissed Her is better song "artistically" and so on, I just think Bugged is a very funny song... It's in other league completely, they souldn't be compared against each other.
386  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1960's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!) on: October 17, 2013, 04:15:29 AM
I have a soft spot for Girl Don't Tell Me. For me that's the best song of this album. Other standouts are Then I Kissed Her, California Girls (it's still overrated), Let Him Run Wild and You're So Good To Me. Oh and I'm bugged at my ol' man, I love that, it's funny as hell. Girl from New York City, Amusement Parks USA, Salt Lake City, they all sound the same for me. I have to rate this 3/5, it's too mediocre as a whole. It has a lot great songs, but it's a big step back from Today!. But well after this album they really did a long run of amazing albums, so they did know how to do better than this. Maybe this one was too rushed or something. Or maybe I'll just 'get it' sometime later and start praising it as the best thing ever.

The Girl From New York City - 3/5
Amusement Parks U.S.A. - 2.5/5
Then I Kissed Her - 3.5/5
Salt Lake City - 3/5
Girl Don't Tell Me - 5/5
Help Me, Rhonda - 3.5/5
California Girls - 4/5
Let Him Run Wild - 4/5
You're So Good To Me - 4.5/5
Summer Means New Love - 3/5
I'm Bugged At My Ol' Man - 4/5
And Your Dreams Come True - 2.5/5

Oh yeah and the insert page in the vinyl release is so funny! All the members' pics are taken the same day in the beach or the boat, can't remember exactly, but then there's Al in the middle in some B&W photo, it's really funny looking. Gives the kinda expression that he's dead or something like that.
387  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1960's Beach Boys Albums / Re: The Beach Boys Today! on: October 17, 2013, 04:00:00 AM
My absolute favorite of the pre-smiley smile albums. I dig this even more than Pet Sounds. It tells a great story as a whole if you think it as a concept album. B-side is one of the best things anyone ever did in terms of music. Well there's that Bull Session with the "Big Daddy"... Let's not talk about that one... This version of Help Me, Rhonda is hundred times better than the number one single version. This rocks much harder. Dance, Dance, Dance has grew on me. I hated it first, now I love it. Please Let Me Wonder, Kiss Me, Baby and In the Back of My Mind are up there with the best songs Brian has ever composed. And I love that Dennis' vocals opens and ends the record, it's really cool idea even though it may be just coincidence. Anyway, Today! is one of my personal favorites, it's really touching, funny, rocking and sweet the same time. Not many albums out there can do the same.

Do You Wanna Dance? - 4/5
Good to My Baby - 4/5
Don't Hurt My Little Sister - 4/5
When I Grow Up (To Be a Man) - 4/5
Help Me, Ronda - 4.5/5
Dance, Dance, Dance - 4.5/5
Please Let Me Wonder - 5/5
I'm So Young - 4/5
Kiss Me, Baby - 5/5
She Knows Me Too Well - 4/5
In the Back of My Mind - 5/5
Bull Session with the "Big Daddy" - 3/5

So 5/5.
388  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian with Jeff Beck Fall Tour Dates on: October 17, 2013, 03:24:12 AM
I really hope Brian comes to UK next year, after the new album is done. Or they could at least film one show and release a decent dvd of the whole performance, no edits. Not like that lousy Beach Boys live 50-anniversary thing. That was really poor... This tour looks really great, can't wait to hear more and see what stuff they play next.
389  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1990's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Summer In Paradise on: October 17, 2013, 03:12:59 AM

If you don't like the studio version of the title track, then give the European remix a try. That version is about the only decent song from the whole album in my opinion
I'll try to find that somewhere. I'm not sure if I've heard it before or not.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUlPQokMjKk
Here it is. The general consensus is this version is far superior to the US version
Yeah it's better. This track and Strange things happen are the only two tracks I like to listen from the album. I have them on my own compilations. I've listened the whole thing couple of times, that's enough for me. But I'd still like to find a copy for my collection. Hope they release a limited vinyl edition sometime, I don't care if it's crap or not... I want it  Evil

391  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1960's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Beach Boys' Party! on: October 17, 2013, 02:08:37 AM
3/5.

I admit that I have listened this completely only couple times. It's fun and yeah that's pretty much all. Barbara Ann is really weird one... It's so silly little song and it's funny how still nowadays it's like the big encore number in the live shows. It's not that great of a song. I love the cover art and the pics inside!
392  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1960's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Pet Sounds on: October 17, 2013, 02:00:32 AM
I gave it 5. Even though in my opinion it's not the best album by The Beach boys. I'd rather rate it somewhere between 4.5-4.9. It's impossible to review these tracks separately, it's meant to be looked as a whole and it works like that pretty much perfectly. Sloop John B is the weakest link. I don't like the lyrics so much.  Pet Sounds is a tricky one to listen. To fully enjoy it I need to have a certain mood or feeling. Usually a sad mood. And it's not the kinda record to listen in a car while driving. It's a great album, no doubt about that. But I just happen to think that for example Love You is a better one. It can be listened wherever, whenever and sounds more unique. But yeah don't get me wrong, I love this album. It's propably nearest to perfection anyone ever made. But it needs a certain state of mind to listen to, and that makes it 'not my personal favorite'. But when is the right time to listen Pet Sounds, the right feeling, then there's nothing better in the world.
393  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1990's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Summer In Paradise on: October 17, 2013, 12:04:21 AM
I'd love to own a vinyl copy with that whale cover of this one. But it's not a good album. At all. Strange things happen is the only actually good song. I really like it. Summer in paradise is ok, the live version is awesome. And then Summer of love, well that's so bad that it's actually great. Especially the music video from Baywatch. Makes me laugh so hard everytime. So gotta give some respect for that. The only song I can't listen at all is Forever. I rate this album 2/5.

Hot Fun in the Summertime 2/5
Surfin' 1/5
Summer of Love 3/5
Island Fever  2/5
Still Surfin' 2/5
Slow Summer Dancin' 2/5
Strange Things Happen 4/5
Remember (Walking in the Sand) 1/5
Lahaina Aloha 1/5
Under the Boardwalk 2/5
Summer in Paradise 3.5/5
Forever 1/5
394  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1970's Beach Boys Albums / Re: 15 Big Ones on: October 16, 2013, 11:17:24 PM

I wonder what your review of SIP would be like...
You'll see!
395  Smiley Smile Stuff / Welcome to the Smiley Smile board / Re: Hi all! on: October 16, 2013, 10:42:05 AM
I got to somewhere around 12 minutes, that's just horrible sh*t! Whoever decided to release that record, was crazy! :D Well that's propably not the best thing to start of anyway. I'm pretty sure they did a lot better stuff too. At least can't get much lower from there...
396  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1970's Beach Boys Albums / Re: 15 Big Ones on: October 16, 2013, 10:31:13 AM
Some people are propably gonna hate me because of this review  Grin I actually dig this album, a lot! There's couple weak songs, some mediocre stuff and many really great tracks on this record! I can completely understand why people didn't like this when it was released. After all the hype of Brian's return people got an album full of covers. Who wouldn't be dissappointed? But well I didn't live any of that, I had read all the bad comments about it and when I first time put it in my player I was expecting something really horrible. But I was bummed! I found it really fun record. Not bad at all! And I find it so ironic and funny that still today Brian often says this is his favorite album of all they ever made. Last time I remember him saying so was last year when The beach boys were answering twitter questions live. I love almost everything on this album, especially Brian's vocals!

Rock and Roll Music 3.5/5
Great opener, in my opinion this is the best version of this mediocre song. The Made in California mix is better though.

It's O.K. 5/5 all the way
Classic! Brian really knows how to make a 2 minute song. Dennis' vocals rule, so cool! This is one of the most underrated Beach boys' songs ever.

Had to Phone Ya 5/5
Same here as with It's O.K. I love how everyone has he's own part. Simple lyrics, so Brian. And the fade-out's: -Hello -Hi Brian!, is so funny! I have the instrumental track of this as my ringtone.

Chapel of Love 3/5
Nice synthesizers, Brian's vocals are awesome even though many people seem to dismiss this. The original version ain't this good.

Everyone's in Love with You 3.5/5
I pretend that the Maharishi-thing never happened with this band when I listen to this. It's a good song.

Talk to Me 2/5
Boring, only good thing in this track is Carl's vocals.

That Same Song 3.5/5
Seems like Brian had a lot of fun here, it's not a classic song at any level, but really funny. Especially the footage where they all sing this with the choir. Fun little song.

T M Song 3/5
I hate the spoken part in the beginning. Otherwise it's really good actually. Short and catchy.

Palisades Park 4/5
One of the best covers of the album. Carl rules here!

Susie Cincinnati 3/5
With TM Song the worst original song on the album. Not a bad song, but not really good either.

A Casual Look 3/5
Mediocre.

Blueberry Hill 3/5
Little bit better than Casual look, the intro is great! Nice vocals by Mike.

Back Home 5/5!
This is really weird song IMO. Brian singing about going back home to Ohio and feeding chickens? What's not to like! And this has a killer bassline!

In the Still of the Night 5/5
Very touching vocals by Dennis. He makes this song.

Just Once in My Life 5/5
Wow! Can it get any better from this? The instruments and sounds are very unique, I haven't ever heard anything like this before or after. And the vocals are amazing. Perfect song to end this album.

So for the whole thing 4/5. I usually dislike the idea to cover songs, or record cover songs. This album is one exception, I hadn't heard most of the original ones before I listened this album. I listened them after these versions. They are all mediocre stuff, nothing special about them. I dig these versions a lot more. BUT I  got to admit, they shouldn't have done an album like this, doing half new and half old ones. Should've been an album completely new ones and other with these covers.  And btw, I love the cover photo, the one with the circled pics. It's so cheesy that it's actually pretty genius!
397  Smiley Smile Stuff / Welcome to the Smiley Smile board / Re: Hi all! on: October 16, 2013, 09:35:36 AM
Yeah I haven't yet reached the solo stuff that came after The Beatles. Getting there soon though. And I like weird stuff so I'll give that Cambridge 1969 a try right now, it's in youtube...
398  Smiley Smile Stuff / Welcome to the Smiley Smile board / Re: Hi all! on: October 16, 2013, 09:11:43 AM
Thank you all for welcoming me here! =)

And great story feelsflow, I'll definetely check that Lennon record :D
399  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: All I Want To Do on: October 16, 2013, 05:19:38 AM
Awesome song. Just a little bit too short. It's highly underrated, one of the best rockers they ever recorded. It really is a great one to play to people who think Beach boys only did some surf songs and that's it. They are always surprised, in a good way.
400  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1970's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Holland on: October 16, 2013, 02:14:19 AM
Definetely in my top-5 all time favorite albums ever. Maybe in top-3 even. This could have been their
best album, easily, if they'd just chosen the album tracks more wisely. Such a shame they left off stuff like
Carry me home, Hard times and We got love. Those should've been on this record. I love the sound and
production of this album, just perfect.

Sail on sailor: 4/5
Perfect opener. Blondie's vocals are awesome, lyrics are good. I love the sound of the whole thing,
nothing they ever made before or after sounds the same. It's so unique.

Steambot: 3/5
Dullest track of the album. I hated it first. Only Dennis track I haven't liked straight on from first listen.
And it kinda kills the flow right after Sail on sailor. This should've been moved somewhere else in my opinion.
Not a bad song though.

Big sur: 4/5
Best thing Mike ever wrote, that's enough said.

Beaks of eagles: 3/5
Spoken parts are bit dull. But I still love it. And this really makes the last part "California" for what it
is, one of the best "fun songs" ever. But it doesn't work so well if it's taken out of it's context, meaning the album.

California: 5/5
Like I just said, incredible! Best part is the opening and the first lines by Brian of course. But it isn't as
great if you listen it separately. Even though the single mix is better than the album one. This is just pure gold.

Trader: 4/5
Love this, maybe best Carl track after Long promised road. Not pefect, but not far away. Really, really great track.

Leaving this town: 4/5
That synth solo! And the fade-out with Mike is amazing. Classic.

Only with you: 4/5
I wish Dennis would've had the lead on this, even though I like Carl's vocals too. It just would've been a 5/5 song
with Dennis. Though the version he recorded later isn't as good as this one. It goes on for too long, the ending of this
version is a lot better.

Funky pretty: 5/5
Perfect end for an almost perfect album. I love every part of this, but especially the synths and all the weid sounds in
the background. It's just so funky!

Mount Vernon & Fairway: 5/5
Don't really think this as a piece of music, even though the music parts are fantastic. Once again: the synths!
So great. They did the right thing when they didn't put this on the album itself. It's perfect on its own. Oh and the Pied piper!
Makes me laugh every time :D

So for the album I give 4/5. Even though it's more like 4.6 or something. It just could have been better. But still I love it. It's the best album to
listen when you're depressed. It makes you feel a lot better.
