That magnificent picture of Carl and Dennis on the second to last page of the liners is oh so cool.

I second the love for the Smile tracks in stereo, and I do very much like many of the radically different mixes, although I wish parts of Marcella were not buried.

Just listened in my car via Apple Music so far, but I agree with the love for the Baby Blue mix. It's so detailed and orchestral I almost thought the Royal Philharmonic was accompanying here too. Funniest thing- I listened to the first 30 tracks in Dolby Atmos in my car, except that my 2020 Honda Civic is equipped with seven speakers and DTS Neural virtual surround, so I would guess I'm getting a different sound than what I should be hearing, but albums like Abbey Road, Elton John's Diamonds set, Queen's song Another One Bites the Dust and some others sound fantastic and very immersive. For the SoS Dolby Atmos->DTS Neural songs, the best sounding ones are the Pet Sounds tracks. In fact, a lot of the tracks from 31 to 80 in stereo produce nicer virtual surround effects and sound better overall than the Atmos ones
But the most interesting Dolby Atmos->DTS Neural tracks is Be True To Your School, which is of course mono on the CD. But in my car, it provides the biggest surround spread of all the tracks, in good old fashioned muddy, smeary near-Duophonic! it almost brought tears of nostalgia to my eyes.   

1. Hmmm, unless my eyes skipped it, no The Little Girl I Once Knew? That would make for a nice stereo extraction.
2. Guess they couldn't extract the single mix of Be True To Your School.
3. The Good Vibrations mix sounds fantastic!

I would go for 79 minutes of just Break Away sessions. There wasn't enough of that song on the box set (My only criticism of that wonderful collection).

It's amazing to me how a new mix can breathe so much life and vivid colour into music one is well acquainted with.

Nitpicking but the Sunflower and Surf's Up albums themselves were just remastered, not remixed.

I still sometimes hear things I didn't before, and are there longer fades?

I actually got a bit emotional when I got to the Forever track and backing vocals.

3. I don't have the box at this point (listening via streaming) so I'd like to know who gets the credit this time for producing Susie Cincinnati. (The Beach Boys as on the single, Brian as on 15 Big Ones or Al as on Best of the Brother Years).
Kudos to all who worked on this box and bringing out the beautiful parts that were previously buried in the music.

Indeed. But I guess the only stereo Sound of Free will be the session excerpt.

Bruce is much more interesting than his latter day stage persona, his solo records, or his loyalty to Mike would suggest. I'd love to read his autobiography but he's said several times over the years that he's not going to write one.

I preordered the Selvin book. I consider it a substitute to a Bruce book.

Recently on Twitter. He said this in 2009: Four months ago I was moving house and I found the master tape of Song Cycle in a garage, so I had it digitalized, to save it for my grandchildren. And we're going to put it out again in 5.1 surround sound. It'll be as manic as before but it'll have much better clarity."
