found this in a local antique shop ($75 Canadian, $56US dollars) and thought I'd mention it in case someone near has interest. beautifully framed (matted backing, etc) I would say its a 2'x3' picture or poster. can't say I've seen that one before, but would have been on the 15 Big Ones promotional push. its at http://www.southworksantiques.com/I'd buy it myself but I just don't have the space for it.

Talking about alternate takes of Brian's '76-'78 material, I just stumbled upon this earlier (?) mix of Pitter Patter. To me it sounds much better than the finished version that ended up on the M.I.U. Album, which sounds "polished to death" in comparison. Love the little instrumental addition towards the end here (synth?), wouldn't be surprised at all if it was Brian's idea, it's very reminiscent of some of his other late-70s work like Do Ya or It's Like Heaven. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LodEYRudNqcwow... that does improve it ... quite a bit! released was "Polished to Death" yeah I see that now :-)

I think the proper debate here should be what Steve Levine was smokin' when he let Mike Love get away with that lead vocal.... I'm not the biggest ML fan by any stretch, but man, couldn't he have sung that lead better than that!!

A cd for sale at a concert that is generally not available anywhere else? Keep the price to something reasonable ($15), I'd buy that before a hat or a overpriced t-shirt what doesn't normally sell is a popular bands latest CD at a concert, because the fans already have it before the concert. For a band who's on the nostalgia circuit, you would think this would be a no-brainer providing they don't overcharge for it!

That's definitely a major misstep...although given what exists, did we really miss much? The California Feelin' piano/vocal track aside, there isn't much worth writing about there unless there's leagues of unheard greatness from the period.
That plus I've Got a Friend, Good Timin', River Song, Rainbows and Angel Come Home all hail from that period. I've never heard it but some have said Mike's Glow Cresent Glow is none too shabby. Plus if Chaplin had never left there'd be Hard Times and stuff from his solo debut. If Rieley was still managing them, there's plenty of quality stuff off Western Justice that could have been worked up into BB material. + "Riverboat Queen" from Blondie's solo record would be worthy of a BB treatment, and I'd be curious what Brian's "Honeycomb" idea with Roy Wood would have sounded like if it was finished...

Wrong. They'll be re-recordings of Mike's unreleased material, last I heard.
Personally, I would think that this would be the best way for Mike to do this... Going through the unreleased material picking out the best bits that this admittedly questionable songwriter has done. works better than locking him in a room for a couple months would likely to result in. Then secondly, taking this material and rerecording it with one band and one studio would hopefully result in a cohesive final result. At least making it sound like something that wasn't thrown together from 30 years of rejected tapes.. imho of course!

On the flipside of all this, I've been fortunate to play actual Beach Boys unreleased music that they've never heard before -- and in a couple of cases, pieces that certain members have SWORN they're not on -- when in fact said piece either was co-written by them and/or they're prominently featured.
One of the coolest moments was the day that Stebbins and I sat Blondie down during the DW doc shoot and blasted a pristine mix of "Carry Me Home" for him -- a tune he hadn't heard since the day he recorded the vocal.
Him looking at Jon and I screaming: "Me?! Is that ME?!"
Major moment.
like that you mention pristine mix... there's something to hope for in the future....
