I'm a big fan of punk rock and I absolutely love The Ramones, but this whole "pop-punk" genre doesn't interest me personally. I love the 1977 era punk groups, and many of those bands used pop-hooks in their tunes, but for the most part I can't get into those later bands like The Queers, The Riverdales, Screaching Weasel and the like. I've seen the Queers back in the early 90s, and I suppose they were more intense as a live act rather than on record. But for me personally, I'll take the original bands like the Ramones or The Buzzcocks any day over the new(er) school groups. I feel the same way about hardcore punk. I prefer The Germs and the Dead Kennedys over any of today's "street punk" bands.

It's actually full of Paul is dead clues. Carson being the son of the car Paul was in when he died, and Johnny being John Lennon.  In some cultures a microphone is a coffin where the dead body sits behind it.

 LOL

The walrus was Murry.

I always liked Mike's bass voice on Hot Fun In The Summertime.

For those of us who actually own SIP, does anybody have it in a format other than cassette?
66  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Your Second Favorite Band Next to the Beachboys on: August 19, 2014, 03:11:36 PM
Not sure who my 2nd favorite is. Might be The Mothers Of Invention, The Damned, The Ramones or Syd Barrett era Floyd. Could be the original Alice Cooper band too. I think I have a lot of 2nd favorites. But #1 never changes.  Afro

Night Time is dislike time.

Could those who decry One For The Boys elaborate? Is it hearing a wall of Brians where the other Beach Boys ought to be that grates, or do you just not like the song? It's one of my favourites on the record and I find it a teasing glimpse into what a half-decent '80s Beach Boys album might have been like.

It's one of the songs from BW'88 that sends shivers down my spine. It's all about personal choice of course, but I have to defend One For The Boys as I see it as a highlight from this album.

I have an original stereo copy DKAO 2893 minus the 16 page song book. The vinyl and the cover are in good condition. My favorite BB album cover of all time! I bought it on ebay back in 2000.

I'm gonna have to say Walkin' The Line, too.

My least favorite track would be the song Young Blood. I love the Coasters version, but Carl's doesn't sound too inspired. Love the name of the backing singers though...Zoot & The Carlettes!

73  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: mentioned before, but who was a fan of the Surf Punks? on: August 18, 2014, 10:56:56 AM
I'm a Surf Punks fan. I still have their Oh No Not Them Again record. I love 'Wave Spy' and 'Too Many Guys Out'. Those guys were funny. Wish I could've seen them live, but I don't think they ever came to Rhode Island or New England. They did an ultra fast cover of Ride The Wild Surf that used to crack me up! I wonder if the Surf Punks ever come out for the occasional gig like every other old punk band does.
oh no not them again was their comical swan song bookend.... NOT an integral album, the s/t (my beach) and locals only were/are a couple of the best albums of the last 35 years and very underrated punkrock masterpieces .

Yeah I hear ya but the Oh No Not Them Again album brings back a time and place for me, so comical-swan-song-bookend or not it's more enjoyable for me than the original LPs they made. Funny how that happens huh?
74  Smiley Smile Stuff / Welcome to the Smiley Smile board / Re: Hey Ho! on: August 18, 2014, 10:52:43 AM
Welcome Rüdige! It doesn't matter if you don't have anything new to say, I sure as hell don't. Most topics have been covered. But the story of the Beach Boys continues and so does our fandom. Have fun sharing your love for the Beach Boys with us! Hey, I too have been in punk bands (it's how I spent most of my teens and 20s). One of my old punk bands did a Ramones-sounding version of Shut Down. I think we shortened the song to about one minute 25 seconds. We were lucky enough to open for The Damned (!!).

Welcome aboard!
75  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike and Bruce Tour 2014 on: August 18, 2014, 05:43:08 AM
Saw M&B this afternoon at Indian Ranch in Webster MA. As far as M&B shows go, this one was the BEST one I've seen (seen M&B ten times). Wow!! Great Concert!! Scott Totten was kickin' some serious ass on the leads, and Jeff Foskett sounded incredible! I was lucky enough to meet Foskett after the show. What a great guy! He autographed my ticket stub and even told me that he liked my Pacific Ocean Blue T-Shirt. Thanks Jeff!! Also I picked up a copy of the Beach Boys On Tour 1966 book which Bruce Johnston autographed apparently a few minutes before I bought it. Score!! I gotta tell you guys, the band was incredible today! Mike Love (wearing a loud orange shirt and matching shoes) was spot on. Cowsill was a powerhouse! I haven't seen the Beach Boys since the 50th Reunion, and even though I knew I was going to have a good time I didn't know HOW GOOD OF A TIME I WAS GONNA HAVE! The band rocked harder than I was expecting them to. Ambah Love joined the band for Darlin which was really cool. Bruce was his usual self, clowning around and making us laugh. Good times all around! Now that I'm home and in my jammies I'm going to enjoy my On Tour 1966 book. Have a good night everybody!  Cool

Where'd ya get the Pacific Ocean Blue t-shirt?

I don't remember the seller but I bought it on the internet around six years ago.
