Love it! Although beautiful, I thought it was Much Too Short on That Lucky Old Sun.

"My solution", 1:30 to 1:50...otherworldly. Reminds me a lot of Robert Wyatt's "The Age Of Self", especialy the chorus. Great song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWPRHqptlVU

Totally!! One of the most uncommercial BB/BW tracks ever and I absolutely love it! Gotta love him laughing at the end and saying "play it"!

Welcome to the forum friend. Have you seen the BBs live before?

Never seen the BBs live before, though I saw Brian Wilson and Al Jardine at the Hop Farm Festival in July, was bloody awesome!!!

Welcome to the board Mr H! Man I would've loved to have seen the Hop Farm Festival!

[...] And I`m assuming the Heartbreakers mentioned in previous posts are not Tom Petty`s.

Love the pictures! I agree that 1963 still looked like the 1950s. Dennis with his cig...what a rebel  Smokin

Great! Thanks for clearing that up AGD! Makes total sense now. East Coast radio stations begin with W, not K, so I thought they were singing about a fabulous girl named Kim, LOL!
132  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: YOUR FAVOURITE PUNK BAND? on: August 09, 2014, 01:18:59 PM
Either the Clash or the Ramones, both incredible bands, I have little patience for punk music otherwise, I find the nihilistic attitudes off-putting and I've honestly never seen the appeal of the Sex Pistols, though I do love the film Sid and Nancy.

Opposite for me, I cannot stand the movie Sid & Nancy but I love The Sex Pistols, especially the pre-Sid days. I'm a Lydon fan and I find the actor who portrayed Johnny Rotten in Sid & Nancy to be too goofy to be Lydon, especially with his mannerisms and with the way he laughed and such.

My favorite punk band is The Damned. I already said this in another punk-thread on this board, but in my opinion The Damned have always been more interesting, more talented, had better material and should've been way more famous. But instead people chose The Clash. I really don't see why people love 'em so much. I'm a huge punk fan but I never cared for The Clash. I never considered them punk. They're about as punk as U2 (whatever, just my opinion).

Other than the Damned, I really love The Weirdos, The Dickies, Dead Kennedys, and The Germs (all from California). I absolutely LOVE The Ramones, only second to The Damned. Husker Du and Bad Brains were awesome. Some other great UK punk bands included The Buzzcocks, Johnny Moped, X-Ray Spex and the very noisey Chaos UK from Bristol.

I don't care for the skinhead type of punk such as Oi! (it's spelled that way, with the "!"). The Oi! bands were BORING! Except maybe Sham 69, but they didn't consider themselves Oi!, they considered themselves a 'punk rock' band. All the other Oi! bands that I can think of, The Last Resort, The 4 Skins, The Exploited, Combat 84 and the lot.....blech! Okay, so you can play fast crappy chords and shout Oi! Oi! Oi! in every chorus and sing about right wing politics mixed with knuckle-head macho insecurity....give me the old '77 era punk bands any day. Lol, and all that stuff they play on the radio that they sometimes call 'punk', like Green Day....that's not punk kiddies. That's today's pop.
133  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Male Ego Board on: August 05, 2014, 01:38:16 PM
I remember the cabinessence board, early 2000s. I used to post there, played my first "Beach Boys Survivor" on it. One day it disappeared. I wonder why? Anybody know? Problem with posters? I remember buying a home-made Dennis shirt from somebody on that board. Can't remember his name. I still have the shirt. The exact web address to the board was cabinessence.com/brian/discus

The Cab just vanished one day because the owners - forget their names, husband & wife, or at least partners... Jim someone ? Whatever... - lost interest and didn't renew the subs. Susan Lang restarted it, and as Shut Down II it's still going, but barely.

The tshirt guy was almost certainly Greg Larson, who used to post here and passed on some time ago. Nice guy, very generous with the footwear but had huge personal daemons that eventually overwhelmed him. It was very nice to see him given a tribute along with Coach Bob Haines in the booklet of The Smile Sessions. Very classy move by someone.

sh*t, why can I remember this drivel off the top of my head but can't make a decent living ? I guess God hates me, me, personally.

Thanks AGD, and yes now that you mention it, it WAS Greg Larson! I'm sorry to hear what happened to him though. He also made a nice Smile T-Shirt which I still have too (front and back images of the Smile jacket sleeve).

My last memory of the Cabinessence Board consists of reading weird threads by somebody with the name Ginn who started talking about The Plasmatics. Then, poof, no more cabinessence board  Shrug

Wasn't there a Cabinessence board, too? It was all white, and it was the same deal, where you could go on there and post under a different name every time. There was a woman on there who I remember claimed to have had an affair with Carl. She was a singer, named 'Sassy', or 'Fancy', or something like that. Unless I've lost it.

135  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What are you most looking forward to in Brian's new LP? on: August 04, 2014, 03:03:10 PM
I'm looking forward to hearing Brian singing with the Jardines and Blondie Chaplin. Also I'll be excited to hear some new tunes from Brian. I hope the female vocals are cool, I'm sure they are. I'm curious about Jeff Beck's featured moment, but it's not top of the list curiousity. Also looking forward to liner notes and possible Brian humor.

My favorite version of Mike Love is the hippie/TM/long-bearded one. Not sayin' that anybody would ever want to produce any, but imagine a series of McFarlane Rock Figures of Mike Love? It sure would be funny to swap the clothing on them. I don't see too many guys with ZZ Top beards wearing loud Hawaiian shirts. Hahaha....I need to get out more...

Well I'll be gosh darned.

140  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Name the Album Covers that DO NOT NAME each band member. on: July 30, 2014, 12:32:28 PM
There are a ton of generic Best Ofs and Greatest Hits albums that don't mention the band members. Too many to list though. I'm thinking the Pickwick label especially.

I'd say Bret Wheadon's take is accurate.
142  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Name the Album Covers that DO NOT NAME each band member. on: July 29, 2014, 03:57:52 PM
Off the top of my head, Surf's Up album cover features nobody's name. Wild Honey has photos of the members on the back sleeve but no mention of names. Smiley Smile back cover says Produced By The Beach Boys, but only their first names are mentioned next to which song they sing lead on (hence no mention of Al, Dennis or Bruce). If you have 20/20 with the gatefold you get people's names, but if you have the re-issue you don't. I'm sure there are others. Am I correct about these Stephen? I believe your name is in the gatefold for 20/20 and also listed on Sunflower.

Did someone say beards!?!  This might be of use, as far as Brian anyways!   Grin

(nope, I never miss a chance to post this.  By the way, it's evolved a little bit since this, but I don't have that file on me...)

That was awesome! I've never seen that before. Super cool, thanks for the link. Brian throughout the decades! 3D

147  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Summer Dreams Movie on: July 28, 2014, 08:07:35 PM
The guy who played Murry was great. The actor who played Dennis wasn't too bad, but he doesn't look anything like the real Dennis Wilson. The rest of the cast sucks. Bad acting, bad wigs. The music was performed by some of Weird Al's musicians. Summer Dreams is a crap movie. Sorry Surfer, I know you like this movie but it's the worst film about the Beach Boys. I can't imagine that any of the Beach Boys like that movie at all.

Oh my God this is sad! RIP Tommy Ramone. I love the Ramones, especially the original Ramones. Tommy was such a cool dude, he was always great in interviews and he was responsible for lots of their early tunes, and he was a great record producer. I can't believe we no longer have any original Ramones.
