Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: The Beatles Survivor #7: Revolver FINAL ROUND

.Survivor #8 is going to be DOUBLE the amount of fun!
Hope so. Thanks for putting up with all the squabbling, pixletwin. Two of my very favorites didn't make the cuts, "And Your Bird Can Sing" and "I'm Only Sleeping". I'm not that big a fan of "Eleanor Rigby" - loved the extended version Paul did in the movie, tho. I love "Taxman" and won't mind if George wins one. I am going to vote for "Here There and Everywhere" - one of his very best songs.

His dot post was voting 2nd time, now with "Here There & Everywhere". He somehow took it to mean that pixletwin arranged separate round, to choose between the 2. I explained to him it's still the same round. & showed him his earlier choice. Watamushi, did I say it right?
Right. This is what is right. Cotton Insect (Watamushi) tried to change his vote. Did it in a way to the best of his abilities. Then was told he could not according to some rule I've never heard of, and I've been playing this game for over three years. When is a game not a game? When all the rules are set by only one person. Makes it more a "Rank the Tracks" deal, per individual. That can be done elsewhere.

Watamushi, As far as I know, you can change your original vote to "Here There and Everywhere" - which should be the deciding vote for this round.
Pixletwin, I've already got caught up in the controlling factor of this game once. Rather not see it in every round. I would request you clarify the right to change a vote to Watamushi.

Aw man... As a testament to what a great album Revolver is we have another tie. Here has 7 and Sleeping has 7. First new vote cast one way or the other will decide the round. VOTE!!! VOTE!!! VOTE!!! Pix, Maybe you should explain that a vote made can be changed. A changed vote can break the tie, right? I know from previous games, some people aren't playing a game, as much as demanding their choice wins at all costs. cotton insect, Has it been made clear to you that you can change your vote? I don't understand your .(dot) post.

I have three favorites. They are by John, George and Paul. Ms. Rigby ain't in the bunch. Looks like I may not get my way without some serious help from the voters.
As much as I love it, I vote for "Tomorrow Never Knows" - a masterpiece for sure, but I see no way to save it. The big snore is my favorite, anyway.
Now, will John make it into the final? Only tomorrow will know. Don't treat John the way Capitol did.

I'll sneak this in here, rather than start yet another new topic.
In the "Johnny Carson" poll thingie I posted three additional examples of songs with a lone cymbal smash at an unexpected moment. I've since been reminded of one more:
The list so far (all original studio versions):
"Johnny Carson"----The Beach Boys "Mouldy Old Dough"----Lieutenant Pigeon "Don't Stop"----Fleetwood Mac "The Spotlight Kid"----Captain Beefheart "Wutherin' Heights"----Kate Bush
There could well be others----it's a stupendous effect.
John. You notice everything. I'll have to check that. Interesting.

Usually I've just got the current year's releases going on shuffle when people are over ... at least to begin with. As we get drunker, things usually get into rabbit holes of specific requests, interrupted requests, and interruptions of interruptions. It's in that territory where Beach Boys or BW inevitably come up. My friends have mostly come to humor me on that. In turn, I try not to force it, at least not too much or too early.
You are just too kind. If you come to my house you can expect a full dose of Beach Boys and Brian. For over a year after No Pier Pressure came out, that would be my first pick of the night. If they didn't like that, they could piss-off out of the music room, plenty of seats in the Tv room. 15 Big Ones/Love You two-fer Cd, Imagination - especially the DVD, Orange Crate Art, my pick is my pick. Nothing to do with forcing it or not. I take the Beach Boys with me to their houses, too. On fourth of July, I'm going to hear Beach Boys In Concert - it's a tradition, home or away.

To quote the Sheriff at PSF: "'Surf's Up' vs. 'A Day In The Life' would be a very interesting poll on a Beatles' forum." It would be more surreal (and quite frankly more fun) to compare "ADITL" with "ADITLOAT". Noted. I'll do that next on PSF Eek! Just when my cred at Smiley seems to be on the rise, down it plummets at PSF. Such is life... http://petsoundsforum.com/thread/1401/bots-31-day-life-tree?Still, it's alway heartwarming to get a namecheck there :=) Oh my, worse than I thought it would be. Beatles=18, Beach Boys=3 Maybe Watamushi shouldn't do that again. No telling what might happen.

Cool website! Thanks, Rocker. Do you know who the guy in the shades is in the pic with Jerry Lee and Ray Charles?
Paul Shaffer. Without shades to the left, from the same session. Right! This comes from a special somehow related to SNL. It's available on DVD and really good, although a little short imo Here's a snippet from the ending round when all three of them performed together: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xc62vt_ray-charles-jerry-lee-lewis-fats-do_musicI've seen that show, Rocker! Recorded/filmed for Cinemax Sessions (an American cable channel first aired it 25 July 1986) at Storyville Jazz Hall Nightclub, New Orleans on 5 June 1986. There was a Vhs in 1987 (good luck finding that) and a DVD by Time Life (2007), called Fats & Friends. In Germany (is this the one you have?) as Rockin' Pianos (High Planet Entertainment 2004), and a vinyl release on Exclusive Records DLC in 1987. Don't remember ever seeing a vinyl release in America. The band: Fats, Ray, Jerry Lee, Paul w/ Steve Jordan on drums, Harold Cowart on bass, Ron Wood and Roy Gaines on guitars, and Sugar Blue on harp. I tried to find a clip on youtube, but everyone I found was from the DVD extras, mostly interview junk. Check your youtube for what might be available in your country.
