1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Beach Boys - Love (fanmix album) on: November 18, 2015, 12:01:38 AM
I always loved The Beatles Love album, and was very interested in this mix. I downloaded yesterday in work and listened to it on headphones on the way home. To say I'm impressed is an understatement! This is a wonderful production, and we'll up to the quality of a professional release. Loved it in every way, thank you!

You know, there's a lot of good and a lot of bad in the Beach Boys catalogue, and I think Summer In Paradise is somewhere in the middle. It was great to hear new Beach Boys material at the time, and there are some really good songs on there. I've listened to it a lot more than I have to some of the mid/late 70's albums.

Beach Boys concert 1964. It's so raw, with a ton of energy. I like it a lot!

I chose Pet Sounds, but in reality, it could be Today, Summer Days, Smile or Sunflower.

I really like the Endless Harmony and Made In California versions of this song. I think it's a great melody, and when Carl kicks in, it's lifted from a good song into a very good song.

I really enjoyed this mix, for the first two versus, and then it was time to switch it off. Good attempt, but not enough vocals to work with.

How can anyone be sick to death of hearing about The Beatles? They were the leading act of the 1960's, their music inspired Brian Wilson to write Pet Sounds, plus their influence can be heard in numerous other Beach Boys songs. You have to give credit where credit is due, and thanks to The Beatles, their music pushed Brian Wilson and the rest of The Beach Boys to record better and better music.

I voted Mike. I know he gets a lot of stick off some people, but I've never been let down by his performances, I like his attitude to the music and I think he lead vocals are signature Beach Boys moments. I love his bass-parts, enjoy the songs he wrote or co-wrote, and generally think he's pretty amazing as a front-man.

A full five stars from me, absolutely love everything about it. The unreleased tracks are stunning, the new mixes awesome and the entire package is gob-smacking. Love it!

I remember loving this song when it came out, and I still think it's a brilliant song. Great lyrics, great backing vocals and some great instrumental parts. I think it's a strong standout track from the era and should have been on the new box set.

11  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: So...What is your favorite MIC track? on: October 01, 2013, 01:19:01 PM
I didn't think I'd be saying this, because when I first heard it I wasn't initially blown-away, but "Wouldn't It Be Nice (To Live Again)" is possibly one of my favourite Songs ever now, and definitely the boxes high-light for me.

Also, what in the flying fuck is "All Dressed Up For School" doing on a career retrospective?

I think it's one of their greatest unreleased-at-the-time tracks that should have been on an album.

13  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Would YOU buy a Mike Love Solo box set? on: September 17, 2013, 12:56:56 AM
Of course I would, just as I would any other member of The Beach Boys. For me, Mike is the voice of The Beach Boys, and I can't imagine the band without him, so a solo box would be most welcome.

From personal experience, people say to me "Ahhh... the Beach Boys" and then sing "Surfin' USAAAAAAAAAA". So I think it's a very low percentage.

My Amazon order still say "Not Yet Dispatched", and delivery day around 4th-7th September. Really looking forward to owning the actual physical box and CDs.

16  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Is Sunflower actually overrated? Defend the album. on: August 29, 2013, 06:37:17 AM
Sunflower is in no way overrated. It's full of exceptional songs, great signing and melodies that put The Beach Boys back on top of their game. I love the album, always have, and it is indeed up there with Pet Sounds as one of the great albums of all time.

I still listen to this collection of songs, and I think's its worthy of a 4/5.

Enjoyed this album when I first had it, and I've criminally overlooked it lately. A great selection of songs, and a brilliant follow-up compilation album.

3/5 simply because it has some great early songs, and possibly the best version of Surfer Girl. I really enjoy the boys voices on this album full of early material, but Surfer Girl is spine-tingling in it's simplicity and beauty.

This version of Wild Honey is the kind of track you play to your friends who think The Beach Boys were un-hip and made saccharine filled tunes and nothing else. QUite simply mind-blowing and a reminder why The Beach Boys are our favourite band.

22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Beach Boys Look Back with 'Wendy' - another MIC teaser! on: August 21, 2013, 02:23:16 AM
Wendy has always been a favourite Beach Boys track of mine, and I really enjoy this live version, warts and all. I just love the melody and the singing, and this tune has always been in my top 20 Beach Boys songs.

23  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1970's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Endless Summer on: August 15, 2013, 05:33:34 AM
I gave this a 5/5 simply because it's the first Beach Boys compilation I bought, and it has a solid line-up of songs. Without this album, a lot of people would not have been introduced to The Beach Boys. It cemented their place in history, and could possibly be the album that has given them, as a group, the longevity that they have had.

24  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1960's Beach Boys Albums / Re: The Beach Boys' Concert on: August 15, 2013, 05:31:17 AM
4/5 for this one. It was the first Beach Boys live album I heard, it's full of young, raw energy, and they cover Jan & Dean's "Little Old Lady", what more could you ask for?

25  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1960's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Wild Honey on: August 15, 2013, 05:29:31 AM
I've given this album a 3/5. It's a good album and the first four tracks are cool, with "Darlin'" and "Here Comes The Night" also being noteworthy songs. I find the rest of the songs enjoyable, but not of a caliber that really stand out for me.
