Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Beach Boys 2012 Remasters!

I am sorry if I offend some folks on this board but I really don't like these 2012 remasters. It is like the constant fiddling that goes on with The Beatles catalog, in the end it doesn't sound much like the original albums I grew up listening to. Perhaps I am just being awkward about the whole issue, I really don't know. It reminds me of George Lucas and his constant "tweaking" of his classic "Star Wars" series. They cannot leave it alone! Well, that's my two cents on the subject!

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Good Vibrations: Thirty Years of The Beach Boys - what should I buy?

Ah, I absolutely love this box set. I must have bought it about a year or two after its initial release. It holds a special place on my CD shelf (and heart!) for sure. I can remember going to amazon's website and previewing all the tracks over and over in anticipation of its arrival - I live in South Africa, you see. Oh, it really is an endless summer when you listen to this beautiful music. "Fairytale Music" is otherworldly.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / "Our Sweet Love" early version
|

I have a version of "our sweet love" where Brian is laying down some of the backing vocals and right at the end he actually sings some lyrics, as opposed to the "do, do, do..." found on the rest of the track. does anyone know what these lyrics are? i can't seem to make them out. "woo-do baby!" and then some more "do, do..." and then finally "love you baby, and I can tell you that our sweet love is just like a...." and then i get lost! anybody know what these original words were?

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Celebrate The News

Hi there all, You know, "Celebrate The News" was probably the first Dennis Wilson song I heard and it immediately got to me. It has a very distinctive sound, doesn't it? The bass guitar sounds incredible, the drums are just "different" sounding, etc. etc. I could go on and on about it. Great harmonies at the end too. By the way, that is Brian singing the falsetto part, right? I don't know what his involvement was with that particular song. Does anyone have anymore information regarding the actual sessions for the track, ie. who played the instrumental parts? I understand there were session musicians but was it members of the "wrecking crew" (forgive me, Miss Kaye!) or was it a new group of players? What are your thoughts about the track? I absolutely love it but for some odd reason I often forget how great it is! Strange track but at the same time utterly amazing.

Hey all, Disc One, track 22 (Heroes And Villains Sections: Bonus Track: Stereo) Really amazing to hear it in stereo but I was wondering, does anyone know what the instrument is playing with the tack piano towards the end of the track? Is it a organ of some sort? It comes in at about 5 min 39 seconds into the track.

Smiley Smile Stuff / 1960's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Friends

Does anyone know why they chose to include two distinctly different edits of "Ol' Folks At Home/Old Man River" for the 1990 and 2001 releases? Compare the two if you're able to, it's very obvious.

This has always been a favourite of mine. I do tend to skip "Transcendental Meditation" though and program the player to jump straight to "We're Together Again". That song seems to fit in so well.
