1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Beach Boys Wild Honey(Sunshine Tomorrow) 2CD Set? on: June 30, 2017, 07:16:36 AM
"Sunshine Tomorrow" is also available at multiple sites in High-Rez format.
I have a high-resolution portable player, so I wanted the 24/88.2 download. I grabbed it this morning from ProStudioMasters.com. Their price is almost $10 cheaper than HDtracks'.

I'm very excited to have this at last! I can't wait to delve into it.

Thanks for the heads-up on this. I'm a fan of this series.

I have the vinyl LP on order, but got a digital version right away. I concur, it's a nice album and if you liked their first two you should definitely check this one out.
5  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys Baseball Cap? on: July 08, 2016, 04:02:43 AM
try amazon

I actually did order one of those Chinese ones from Amazon. Let's just say they're not the real deal.

I can't believe these are so hard to get. Whatever, I guess it's not something I really need...

Are these caps still hard to find? Are they being sold at shows even?
7  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Someone recommended to me Hawaii by the High Llamas on: January 15, 2016, 06:43:13 AM
I've bought a bunch of High Llamas albums and, while none are all-time faves or anything, Hawaii is the one I enjoy most. It is very derivative, but that doesn't bug me too much as it does some others. "Literature is Fluff," "Nomads," "Dressing Up the Old Dakota," and "Theatreland" are all fine songs in my book.

Same goes for the Explorers Club and their Freedom Wind album: derivative to the extreme (more of an All Summer Long-Summer Days vibe), but with a handful of songs I really enjoy.

According to Bellagio, for my birth month (July 1972):

"Spring, an album by former Honeys Marilyn Wilson & Diane Rovell produced by Brian, Steve Desper & David Sandler, is released to critical acclaim and zero chart action."

Dude, I was also born in July 1972! (the 26th) Smiley
Hey, you're just two days older than I am. Cheers! Cool

10  Smiley Smile Stuff / Polls / Re: Favourite version of Surf's Up? on: November 03, 2015, 03:46:53 AM
Since I first heard it, "Surf's Up" (1967) has been my favorite version.

Same with me. It's haunting and very beautiful.
11  Smiley Smile Stuff / Smile Sessions Box Set (2011) / Re: TSS - All things Surf's Up on: August 11, 2015, 07:38:10 AM
Quick question here; if it's been discussed before a link would be fine, but I searched and didn't find anything.

The Made in California box includes a "2012 mix" of the 1967 "Surf's Up" recording. What exactly is different between that and the SMiLE Sessions version? Thus far I've not noticed any differences.
12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: All studio versions + studio evollutions of Surf's Up on: August 05, 2015, 05:25:34 AM
However my all time favorite version is the bruiteaur mix of the 1966 recording with the 2004 BWPS version.

Absolutely phenomenal. Wanted to add my "thanks" for posting this!
13  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Love and Mercy - News and Reviews - First clip is out. on: June 02, 2015, 07:25:47 AM
Brian's Facebook page said that on Wednesday we'll know the exact locations and showtimes for the movie.

One of my local theaters (Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, PA area) just posted showtimes. I just bought my tickets for Friday night online; I could not be more stoked!

Some mighty powerful scenes in the featurette. June 5th can't come fast enough.

It really can't. I'm dying to see this!

16  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: You have 10 Albums….. on: May 14, 2015, 12:04:39 PM
In no particular order:

1. Summer Days (and Summer Nights!!)
2. Smiley Smile
3. The Beach Boys Love You
4. The Beach Boys Today!
5. Pet Sounds
6. Shut Down Volume 2
7. All Summer Long
8. Wild Honey
9. Friends
10. Sunflower

If comps had been allowed, Endless Summer would have been in there...
17  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 14 Beach Boys albums coming to vinyl/SACD on: May 13, 2015, 03:41:07 AM
So can we take inventory here? Who has the mono/stereo SACD of what albums?

The only SACD I've grabbed so far is Shut Down Volume 2. I've had a Sony SACD player for years and I find the SACD layer sounds fantastic. I have not played the CD layer in my system, though I've ripped it for portable use.

I've bought all five mono LPs. The pressing and sound quality of all is top-notch. I look forward to the additional releases throughout the year.
18  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Imagination album vocals on: September 25, 2014, 03:56:57 AM
I like the first two cuts on the CD a lot. Overall though it's a bit too "adult contemporary" for my tastes.

The vocals do sound pretty good, but you can tell a lot of studio trickery was involved to get them to sound the way they do.
19  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Best Rock Bands of the 2000's on: September 04, 2014, 06:58:15 AM
Check into Spoon. A VERY consistent band. My particular favorite albums are Kill the Moonlight and Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga; their new one, They Want My Soul, is also very good.

Me at Big Pink, Saugerties, New York, a few weeks back.

21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Pet Sounds on: June 30, 2014, 04:30:51 AM
To my knowledge, MFSL doesn't do Blu-Ray releases of any sort so I doubt it would be the same source.

Correct; it's almost 100% unlikely this would be the same mastering at the Mobile Fidelity SACD. There's no way MoFi would pay for the licensing rights and then just allow another company to issue their mastering on another format.
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: I think I've found the Beach Boys most cringeworthy TV appearance. on: May 15, 2014, 05:04:03 AM
Brian has a great look on his face at 2:40-- "what the hell am I looking at here?"

Worth watching just for that moment.  LOL
23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Pet Sounds and POB Appreciation Thread on: May 01, 2014, 02:35:16 PM
So, uh, exactly why did you buy it ? Missing a coaster ?
I didn't buy it. Received it as a gift, loaded it into iTunes, enjoyed the occasional track that's come up during iPod shuffling, but just never got around to playing it all the way through as an album.

So a near-mythical Beach Boys-related album is re-released after years languishing in obscurity, you go out and buy it, and then you don't really feel much of a desire to actually sit and listen to it...?

That's quite odd, isn't it?

I suppose it would be, yes.
24  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Pet Sounds and POB Appreciation Thread on: May 01, 2014, 08:05:09 AM
You're all making me feel a need to sit and give POB a good, focused listen from start to finish. I've had it for years but admittedly have not sat down and given it my full attention, ever. I think I really need to do that.

Indeed, I too would recommend Carlin's book.
