This album is great. "Psychotic Reaction" by The Count Five is fantastic early psych, and easily one of my favorite songs on the album. Also dig The Chocolate Watchband, The Human Beinz, and the classic 13th Floor Elevators. Nuggets II has also got some great stuff, such as "White Bicycle" by Tomorrow, "A Dream For Julie" by Kaleidoscope and other great stuff by We All Together, The Easybeats and The Pretty Things. Gotta love Nuggets.

On a slightly different note, may I ask what they were thinking when they recorded "Carnival"? And why did they try to put it on an album? I mean, the effects used on it are kinda fun and all, but man, what a strange piece of music. I listened to it with headphones a while back and nearly got sick. It's like "My Solution", but worse.

I've never understood why people are so hard on M.I.U. Sure, it's not their best album, but it certainly isn't the worst. It's a lot better than what came after it, save for a few songs. I don't think it would kill 'em to toss in a few of the better songs from the album ("Pitter Patter", "My Diane", heck, even "Hey Little Tomboy") on a compilation. The music may not be great, but this is where the group was in 1978 (not counting Adult/Child). Plus, I'd rather see any of the previously mentioned songs on a comp if they were in lieu/addition to the somewhat overused "Come Go With Me". Better (well, more accurate) representation.

I'd just like to say that the first 15 seconds or so of this song now rank in my top 10 favorite Beach Boy moments. Can't wait for the Brian/Piano version.
A shame they messed up Carl's vocal on it, though. That 2% increase in speed makes his vocal on it just about perfect. I really hate that they sacrifice one person's vocal to save/add another. I agree. I might be wrong in saying this, but I think it's the same way on "It's Over Now". Two great songs now ("California Feelin'" included) that I find hard to listen to because of a slowed Carl Wilson vocal. A voice like his should never be tampered with.

2.All This Is That: It was this song that got me into the album.
Yet you ranked it as #2, not No.1. Yes. I did. "All This Is That" got me into the album, but once I started to listen to the album as a whole, I realized that I found "Marcella" a bit more enjoyable. Tastes change, and who knows? Tomorrow "Make It Good" might shoot up into my top 5.

Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / The Flying Burrito Brothers

I couldn't find a thread about these guys, so I thought I'd start one up. I mean, how could nobody be talking about this great band? (From Wikipedia) The Flying Burrito Brothers were an early country rock band founded in 1968 on the West Coast of the United States by former Byrds members Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman, as well as pianist and bassist Chris Ethridge and pedal steel guitarist Sneaky Pete Kleinow. The band is best known for its influential debut album, The Gilded Palace of Sin. Although the group is most often mentioned in connection with Parsons and Hillman, the group underwent many ( many) personnel changes. So, if you like the Byrds or Gram Parsons, check out The Flying Burrito Brothers. If, you already know who they are: wonderful! Here's a place to talk about them. Some of their more popular tunes: "Wild Horses": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MchWI3sLUQo"Christines Tune": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BITiY8M_oDo"Hot Burrito #1": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rrqBsG1yXs

From what I understand, The Isle of Wight show is pretty rough, but still, it'll be a neat thing to have. Also, if the demo for Wigwam is the same one on the RSD single, then I will really be looking forward to this. Can't stand the original version with those terrible horn overdubs.

The new songs for this album are great. However, while the repeats are good, it's no fun hearing the same songs two albums in a row. Still a pretty strong album from the group. This is where they began to cut back on the instrumentals (A plus, indeed).

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: List of Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar era Beach Boys songs

How would "I've Got A Friend" count? Dennis wrote it and Dennis sang it. Ricky mighta played drums on it but that's it.
"Carry Me Home". Blondie sang lead and maybe Ricky played drums.
Like bluesno1fann said in an earlier post, these are just songs from the Blondie-Ricky era (i.e. 1972-1974). The songs in this thread aren't necessarily written by the Fataar-Chaplin team, but they were somehow involved with them.
