76  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What If?: SMiLE came out instead of Good Vibrations? on: January 21, 2016, 10:19:29 AM
And the job rested with Capitol (the new Brother Records, or a combination of both) with a well oiled PR machine at their disposal.  Even Party pre-dated Brother Records incorporation, so that promo was probably on them.

Guess, GF I am just  frustrated in thinking that they were the best and the PR accorded to them should have been commensurate with that standard.  I am not disappointed in the band, but those who were charged with their marketing and promotion.     Wink

I'm thinking that it wasn't really Capitol's job. It seems to me that the label did not usually manage a band's personal appearances.
Emily - And I am thinking it was "somebody's job."

There are agents in place who handle that facet, especially in a mega corp such as Capitol.

from Music Biz Academy...

"A record label, PR firm, music manager, music publishing company, entertainment agency, music distribution firm, entertainment lawyer, music magazine and most other entities in the music industry are all part of a "mass media" wheel that generates airplay, publicity, gigs and record (CD) sales.  All this is part of record deal from a record label, or it can be used to get a record deal."

They already had a "record deal."

This void of TV media is inexcusable for over 2 years, when at their creative pinnacle, in my book.  Just sayin'.   Wink

I'd like to know who, with all of your posts seeming to relate to each other, you are trying to discredit and what your motives are, other than pushing what I see as a Mike Love influenced agenda. You didn't respond to my last post about it and I would like to know. Thx

Happy Friday to both "teams!" Beer

Ugh.

I don't believe you read anything other people post but I'll still ask - I saw how Mike Love wants people to think of Smile in his American Family movie which blatantly rewrote history. Are you trying to attack what Jules wrote in 1967 so Mike can tell his version of the story instead? You're constantly spinning issues to tailor them to the Mike Love version of history. It's mind numbing.
78  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Good Vibrations Success and Smile's Demise on: January 15, 2016, 12:37:35 AM
I'm returning just to say that that was not intended in any way to be a threat and I consider that a willful misreading.

That is your opinion.
Willful misreading is a judgment.
It was fact-based.
You may not agree.

...what?

What is her opinion? Which part of her post?

Wilful misreading is being intentionally ignorant to push your own bias and say what you want to say while also pretending to argue. That's what you have done in this thread.

What was fact based?

So you'll stop being really mean to other people?
80  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike's band on: December 06, 2015, 08:11:24 AM
Andrew, fight your battles in the open so people can see them and stop hiding behind private messages. Or are you afraid of exposing what has been going on and is still going on?

Hes pathetic like that. And like I've said, cancerous, and mean to people.
81  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike's band on: December 06, 2015, 08:10:03 AM
Andrew Doe is cancerous.

I have received some of his manipulative PMs, trying to push me in the direction he wants. I've talked to others who have received similar messages, as well as those who have recurved threatening messages.

All of this is him being manipulative and horrible, raking GFs name across the coals because he seems to be one of the only people here who understands the extent of AGDs bullying. Anyone who's been paying attention should be able to see this.
Those are pretty strong words, Woodstock.  When people (especially young people who did not grow up contemporaneous to the music) sign on, with a limited context (I am not being ageist.) and just deal with the music, it is a great thing, but historic context with regard to art and music and philosophy, go hand in hand.  The great salons in the early 19th century France had musicians, artists, novelists and philosophers, all of whom influenced each other.  George Sand and Chopin, just as an example.

Lurking on this high voltage board for a while before signing in and posting might be a good idea to learn who the "players" are and how to deal with them. Being polite is first.  Some do not "suffer fools gladly."  Nor should they.  There are some amazingly talented people here and it is a privilege to listen to them.

But, Andrew and I have gone "ten rounds" and in communicating with him, my experience is that Andrew responds well to well-sourced information, and points that are backed up with evidence.  This forum is not for the weak-kneed.  I have no idea what the exchange was, and it isn't my business, but realizing that he is an "author" - and I don't have his writings, but find his website pretty reliable and I do respect his scholarship.

As always, for me, I strive not to get caught up in the factions on this board... The overall big picture of the music legacy is just too important to me.  Brian, Dennis, & Carl

Nothing you say has ever made sense, sorry

Hey, hold up, I'll go with you.
I'm a longtime devotee of this site, although I don't post very often. But there has definitely been a shift in tone over the past year or so, and the negativity, nitpicking and nay-saying have reached epidemic proportions. Congrats to the trolls, the haters and the haphazard moderators...you can have the sandbox all to yourselves.

+1

The day I change my online name to the one on my passport and my avatar to a close up of my face is the day I stop being that person  Grin
86  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike's band on: November 25, 2015, 12:32:10 AM
Pretty sure a lot of us have received a nasty PM from he who should not be named. I certainly hear about it a lot from various people, or see it mentioned on the board even. Who would it have been that sent Lana some abuse? Only one guess really.

So I'm with you there.

*prepares for angry PM*

And it's all because I hide behind a monicker right? Im waiting for that to factor into this, because I love all that - criticizing people for not wanting their names exposed like EVERY OTHER FORUM. I don't mind sharing my name with people online, but I prefer to have some control over it. It's not a big deal and shouldn't be, but for whatever reason some of the denizens of this board have made it a big issue.

fire it up

89  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Still Tourin' Trailer on: November 04, 2015, 09:26:13 AM
If it were just a fan video, why did it get posted and pulled down on Mike's FB page?

Plus if it were just a fan video, where did he get those audio and video sources?

I'm wondering the same thing

Amazing it would be.
93  Smiley Smile Stuff / Brian Wilson Solo Albums / Re: No Pier Pressure on: September 27, 2015, 10:30:03 AM
I think its pretty clear the point we were all making was that JT wasn't involved in the production of the album. He co-wrote the tracks but that's it. You know this but you keep arguing for some reason.
94  Smiley Smile Stuff / Brian Wilson Solo Albums / Re: No Pier Pressure on: September 27, 2015, 12:03:50 AM
If JT co-produced just one track, he would still be listed as co-producer on the album. He and Brian have a long standing relationship.

Billy it's also my understanding he was not very involved in NPP aside from the co-writing of the tracks. I think Casey saw what was posted here about his popmatters review and joined not to discuss anything, but ruffle feathers for the sake of it.
95  Smiley Smile Stuff / Brian Wilson Solo Albums / Re: No Pier Pressure on: September 25, 2015, 09:19:06 PM
This guy is totally the kind of person who writes reviews - he has a very simple, black and white way of thinking. If I could go back and not have a read a single word written by him, I would.
96  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: New ELO (Jeff Lynne) song! on: September 24, 2015, 09:56:42 PM
Could have been released as an outtake from 1976 and no one would have known. I've been hyped for this album for years...and its awesome to finally hear something from it. I like it a lot
97  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Worst of The Beach Boys on: September 24, 2015, 07:05:17 AM
My first BB MB, back in 1998, was the American Band board, which opened a whole new level of fandom to me. That just seemed to wither, and l moved on to the Cab, which was another level. That died because the owner lost interest. Wound up here via Ego and others. Thing is, some withered, others were killed from within. SS could be taking the latter route: of late, several folk have used the term "toxic" to describe this forum, and that includes more than two of the band. There's a host of good, good folk here making important contributions, and significant original research has resulted. Then there's the trolls, malcontents and general bottom feeders, who do none of this, being content to disrupt for the sake of disruptings sake. Sad.

For so many reasons you are the most toxic person on this board.
98  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: IJWMFTT - background vocals on: September 20, 2015, 06:21:49 AM
Another interesting point is that during the C50 press junket, they discuss this song and the Spanish part and Al says he has absolutely zero recollection of it, even accusing the group of putting him on right there about it.  After pledging their honesty, he still doesn't remember anything about it.

That would be the same Alan Jardine who, during an interview about his solo album, not only insisted "Highway" was unreleased but also denied singing the lead vocal ?

'kay...

Man, don't dismiss everything the guy says based on one thing he got wrong. You record like 50,000 songs in the span of 15 years in the middle of touring and writing and trying not to strangle your bandmates etc. etc. etc. and try to keep it all straight. Cry

He didn't originally sing the lead. Billy Hinsche did. There's a lot that anyone whos 72 years old won't remember.

I'm curious to know what you think, rab2591.

I feel a little silly for being so obsessed over this film so much, I'm sure I come off as a total nerd. Guilty as charge, I suppose.

Ive read every post you've made about the movie. I love the movie to death too...so I look forward to your posts. I was thinking about starting a proper analysis thread to dissect every bit of symbolism. You game?
100  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Planned Parenthood exposed -- CAUTION on: September 05, 2015, 09:54:30 AM
I think it's pretty funny to watch a bunch of men argue about abortion and Planned Parenthood with each other as if any of their opinions on the subject mattered.

I'm sure slave owners (white or black, male or female) thought it was funny to watch abolitionists (white or black, male or female) talk about ending slavery.

Spot on point bro.

Jk. You're insane
