Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Feel Flows box set

GUYS I HAVE NEWS A few years back I made a compilation edit of a bunch of my favorite rarities and unreleased tracks (which you can listen to here https://vimeo.com/134540323) I originally uploaded to youtube, but due to content ID strikes I made the video private. However this video has just been hit with strikes again, with two songs that have NEVER been officially released - Big Sur (the 4/4 version) and even more exciting, a track titled: "Medley: All of My Love/Ecology" That song title comes from the copyrighted material claimed in my video, not from me. Go to the video and listen to the edit of ecology for reference - for anyone unaware its a medley of different pieces of music Dennis wrote - plenty of edits of the song have been made over the years, ours was close enough to the track getting released for it to be struck with a copyright I guess. I think this is pretty good news for the box set going forward. f*** YEA

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Brian Wilson Sampled by Fleet Foxes

New Fleet Foxes album dropped suddenly today. Give it a listen, it's excellent. A track towards the end samples a BW voice clip from the Pet Sounds sessions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2SZCIZrllc&ab_channel=FleetFoxesRobin Pecknold talking about Pet Sounds in a recent interview: "Pet Sounds is a big influence generally speaking. This is definitely the most studio rat, Brian Wilson-y, overdub-y of any of our records. That approach is what made me want to get into the music in general. The little bits of Brian Wilson dialogue on that song are taken from my favorite piece of music ever, which is this a cappella clip of him laying vocal after vocal for this idea for “Don’t Talk (Put Your Head on My Shoulder).” That piece of music is what made me want to be a musician, hearing him, just with his voice, building this whole world and how magical that felt, how he didn’t even need a guitar. It had this egalitarian wonder that was super inspiring to me as a teenager. Same thing with growing up in Seattle and having Kurt Cobain nearby making us all think we could do that too."

Why do so many people on this board pretend that Brian live is good? This guy shouldn't be out on tour-the video's I've seen are really of a guy who seems almost forced to be participating in a show...
So you're basing your opinion of these shows on tinny sounding videos made by a microphone/camera as small as a grain of rice, which is then uploaded in a lossy format to youtube, and probably listened to on speakers the size of two grains of rice on your phone? In person these shows are phenomenal...his backing band helps immensely even when Brian isn't on point for a few songs. Is Brian the 23 year old kid we hear on the records? Heck no, and he hasn't been since he was 23. His voice has changed every year of his existence, it's been ravaged by years of smoking and drug use, and he is now 76 yet still out there putting on a show. We're beyond lucky we can still see him perform, and I think most fans know what they're getting into when they buy tickets. As a fan of the band I just don’t see how anyone could pass up an opportunity to see Brian play. The music is amazing even when performed on a bad night, but I’ve never seen a bad show. Every time I’ve seen Brian’s band, they have been phenomenal thru some bad nights on Brian’s part, and some good nights too. Everyone always goes on about the bad nights like this wasn’t a guy who spent 3 years in bed due to mental illness. Seeing him when he’s “on” just makes that all the better. I saw him pull out a song they had performed just once in rehearsal. Shaky as hell, but really fun. Especially Brian yelling into his mic “TURN MY PIANO UP” and then pounding at his keys to make sure he was loud and in at the front of the mix. Good times.

Which is ironic since as far as I know the main moderators over at PSF are left leaning, particularly Bubbly
Yeah, true..maybe Andersson too but I'm a bit confused at this point who everyone is but certainly the more vocal right leaning posters seem to be all there now. All mods there are lefties. It's funny how that works.

Alright I'm better now....I think though I'm done ever voting for a major party.I also think I'm going to get involved directly and if not directly then as an advocate. I've seen too many people struggle, and try to get people divided because if we were to unite, too many people in power (the ones really running the show) would be running scared
Why would you say you'll never vote for a major party when you dont know who will be running for those parties? Bernie would have represented the Democrats had he won the nomination. If he wins it in 2020 you wouldnt vote for him?

Agreed...my main issue was with Dirk (and Andrew, but he doesn't count). I think now both boards can move on from this ugliness.
There are 4 mods at PSF. Me, Bubbly Waves, Rob and Dudd. If anyone of us is gonna start something, it'll be as a satirical swipe and the people who have made the whole community feel so extreme And from the beginning weve all been pretty disinterested in discussing this place over there. People are welcome to do it, but I ask the people saying less kind things to just...please stop.

Aside from "Good Timin'" and the three Dennis songs, there's not much great about it. I wish Dennis didn't write these songs. That would be jolly good. Emotional or not - who cares? "Good Timin'" doesn't sound like good timin'. It should be "good borin'", ha! It's sad what living in Chernobyl does to ones brain cells. Because she doesn't like a song you do? Thanks for the tastlessness. Love it.
