Why the fuck is an album that is done going to come out almost a half a year from now?
Stupid as hell. Brian could write & produce another album between now and then, but for some reason, nah, we gotta wait several months to hear music that is allegedly "done".
YOU SUCK, CAPITOL RECORDS. I probably won't even buy a copy of it anymore, knowing that these suit wearing muhfuckas are bogarting it to release at a time where they think they're more able to make more cash money off of it....
You've answered your own question here. Why will Capitol make more money...? Because more people will buy it and listen to it. Is that such a bad thing? There is absolutely no point in releasing a Brian Wilson record now and have it make #63 on the charts, when they could wait 6 months for the film tie-in and have it reach #18.

Since Dean Parks has recorded tracks for the album, it would not only make sense to have him make some live appearances but it would be a terrific thing too, as he is rightfully so considered one of the finest studio guitarists in the business and has been for several decades. In the business he has the nickname (as said by others) as "The Dean" of Hollywood guitarists, and has a resume of high profile film and studio credits at least a few miles long.
When I saw that Dean, Kenny Aronoff, and Jim Keltner had done tracks for the album, as a musician I was beyond excited to hear what they bring to the tracks. With Dean in particular, he does live dates but you often don't see him featured on stage especially when he's playing various awards shows and the like...millions hear him all over TV and film scores but you don't get to actually see and watch him play as often, so this is a pretty cool thing.
I saw Dean Parks play live with Crosby-Nash in 2005. It was an excellent show. Dean Parks also played on the Joey Lawrence album from years ago, for those who remember Joey Lawrence.

Mark Isham is great. I like his work with Joni Mitchell.
it's interesting the credits are going with people like Mark Isham and Dean Parks instead of using Probyn and the usual gang.
I would be very shocked if members of the touring band do not appear on the album. But it will be much more like TWGMTR, in which they're added as accents, rather than the core group of each track. And as for the TV special idea, it's not that I don't think Brian shouldn't play live, and it's not that I don't think he has a lot to offer in that context. It's just that these things come across as incredibly forced with someone like Brian. He so seldom does well in one off appearances. Yes. i find it quite exciting that Brian is not just relying on his usual gang to fill in all the parts, and maybe has a specific something in mind, which is why he's going for Isham and Parks. When Brian gets something specific in mind, rather than just "will this do?" the results are usually special And i'll add to the love for Bob Clearmountain. The last BBs album with a name mixer, Al Schmitt, sounded great. Caveat: not saying it was all Al's work, but it has his name on and it sounds great.

Not that i have any insight into the writing of the song, but California Calling sounds to me more like an Al song than Brian's.
I'm not disputing either of them had input, or the extent, just what the finished product sounds like. I'd always (prior to today) assumed Brian's credit was on there either in the same way that Brian got credited on Deirdre (5% input), or for the California Girls-style bvs.
I direct you to post #49 below, as you've obviously not read it. I`m not disputing your info at all (and we all know what Al`s memory is like) but interestingly in an interview with ESQ in around 2000 Al said he couldn`t recall Brian having written any of California Callin` and said that sometimes he would give him writing credits as a gesture due to Brian`s massive contribution back in the 60s. Andrew, it was your post that i was referencing (and why i added several caveats as to my own prior (i.e. prior to post #49) lack of knowledge in this area), when i wrote mine, but i must have clicked reply instead of quote My own prior (i.e. prior to post #49) opinion was in line with Nicko1234's post. The song sounds just like something Al would write in the mid 1980s. Catchy but derivative.

Can anybody help identify this Mike Love video? It's called "Can You Help Me With My Melon?" and I was just wondering if anybody knew the purpose for it: http://youtu.be/3Ga6xVvLsgkThe original is Mike's appearance on the Merv Griffin Show singing "Looking Back With Love." As to the aim of this Youtube upload, it serves the same purpose as those shred videos... It just occurred to me that Mike Love's solo career has actually been a prank designed by Christopher Guest for a movie. Looking Back With Love sounds like something from A Mighty Wind. Same with Mike Love Not War, First Love, Country Love. The joke's actually on us, guys. Mike's been in on it since the start.

how many early versions of Desert Drive with Andy Paley "exist?" All I know of is an instrumental/jam version on the Slightly American Music bootleg. Too bad that wasn't finished with the boys' vocals back then. Carl was still alive at the time. And Mike's voice belongs on on the lead there. The GIOMH version is so terrible, it totally ruined the reputation of that song. And i wish Jeff didn't mispronounce 'coyotes'. I don't care if "Kigh-otes"- scans better, it sounds embarrassing. Pick a different animal.

No one's mentioned the real reason this song was chosen by the BBC....
1. The BBC is a publicly funded broadcasting organisation - i.e. paid for from a form of taxation, and free of advertising on radio and TV (and online etc).
2. The UK has a general election in May 2015 after which it's quite possible that a Conservative government, keen to pare back public services, will make further severe cuts - including to the BBC.... if not privatising it. The Tories don't like the BBC.
3. Hence 'God only knows where I'd be without you'.
as for point #3, do you really think that the "subliminal message" will sway anyone's opinion? Really? i love the BBC. I watched the first show in Brian Cox's new series last night. Superb TV. And as for the general election, all 3 main parties will "lose" no matter who forms a government. All 3 parties are weak and this will allow extremist fools to gain ground. I find it hard to bring myself to vote for Cameron Clegg or Miliband, but there's no way i'm voting for any of the others. In other news, it was wonderful switching over from Star Trek TNG during the advert break to the BBC News 24 channel and being surprised by GOK. Made my hair stand on end. Very touching.

There's some Prince i really love. My favourite album of his is probably The Rainbow Children, and i also like The Gold Experience, Lovesexy, SOTT, Purple Rain, Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic, the Black Album.
I have almost all of his albums, but the last few years have been pretty disappointing. Each album from Musicology onwards has been 'the comeback', but they're all pretty interchangeable. I like the MPLSound/Lotus Flower albums, they could have been a really good short single album.
Planet Earth and 20Ten are UNBEARABLE apart from Chelsea Rodgers and Laydown, so i'm gonna pass on the new ones.
The Vault from 1982 to about 1989 is untouchable. Hours of inspired tunes, but after Lovesexy, he lost something vital.

Maybe they're going to spin multiple singles off the album, and based on the artist(s) performing on the song, they'd be able to hit multiple formats with songs that fit into those formats. Just a thought. And totally in line with 2014 music marketing.
Weird Al released 8 videos in 8 days and had a no.1 album. No one previews an album with a 3-month lead single any more. I'd say single/video out one week before the album sounds about right.
