Speaking of the (very high) 'domino' harmony vocal, anyone know who sings that..?   (Apologies if this is going over old ground!)
227  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Re: The Official BB You Tube Thread on: June 01, 2007, 06:14:52 AM
"All This Is That", Melbourne '78:

What happens when a vocal band sings poorly...a drunken Carl, uninspired Mike and Carl, and absent others. Ick.

Is there any live footage of 'All This is That' where Carl ISN'T umm...'over refreshed'?  I've only seen Melbourne '78, and another slightly earlier concert where he is slurring and also scowling at the camera!
228  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson Biopic: Funniest movie of all time? on: April 23, 2007, 08:40:38 AM
Anyone remember this one from around 1980 I think:  Nick Kent turns up to interview Brian looking 'elegantly wasted' à la 1970's Keith Richards.  Brian greets him and says "Hey, you look more like a rock star than me - maybe I should interview you!"

Either those guys are hanging upside down or there are no laws of gravity.

Is "Bomb Iran" from the "Jet Sounds" album?

Thankyouverymuch.  Be nice to the waitresses...

Btw regarding the live 'Let the Wind Blow' solo - my guess would be Blondie.
233  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Carl as lead guitarist on: April 17, 2007, 03:28:49 AM
Yes I agree that Carl was an excellent, Chuck Berry-style rock 'n' roll guitarist - at least the equal of, for example, George Harrison in the early years.  The difference is, that Carl never really developed much beyond that style, unlike Harrison who certainly did, particularly with his stunning slide guitar playing in his solo years.  But after the surf era, the Beach Boys were never really a 'guitar solo' band anyway, and Carl was never going to be the 'ego-driven' lead guitarist.  My impression is that he never really took himself that seriously as a guitarist, which is a bit of a shame as he certainly had the ability.
234  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: "Hungry Heart" by Mike Love of the Beach Boys on iTunes on: April 04, 2007, 03:32:37 AM
Another dreary cover version from Captain Cabaret...

I like to think of Brian as a cool head with warm heart.  Hey, not a bad title for a song, that...
236  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Wilson Phillips - gay?? on: February 02, 2007, 06:52:53 AM
Wilson Phillips have been included on a list of 'gay' bands (to be avoided!) on a christian website.  Have I missed something....?

Go on, get ordering. As one review says "The pop feeling which becomes distorted is splendid." And you can't argue with that...
238  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Connected Smile songs on: December 20, 2006, 03:42:06 AM
We're only talking about a 3 or 4 second link here, not the entire song.  Nonetheless, the harmony parts are identical, so Brian and/or the band must have known its origins.
239  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Connected Smile songs on: December 19, 2006, 08:05:24 AM
How about the vocal link at the end of "H&V" which eventually resurfaced as the intro to "Goin On"?
240  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Al Jardine and the Brian Wilson Band on: October 05, 2006, 08:35:18 AM
When Al is done, replace him with a look-a-like; Mickey Rooney, for example.

I was thinking more along the lines of the little elf from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer...  after all, they both wanted to be dentists....

Archie Gemmill???  (For the uninitiated, see http://www.gdfcartophily.co.uk/item.php/IID/285233623)
241  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Forthcoming UK release of "Happy Finish...?" by Exhibit B on: July 26, 2006, 07:38:27 AM
Hi guys, just a plug for the forthcoming release of "Happy Finish...?", the best of erstwhile Liverpool duo Exhibit B. Containing most tracks from the classic album 'Playing Dead', and also the single "Who Killed the Smile?", all tracks have been digitally remastered. Totally unbiased, but it's ear candy of the highest order! UK release date 4th September, on Pentagon records. For more info (and to listen to song snippets) , see http://www.exhibit-b.co.uk

242  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Steamboat percussion effects on: July 03, 2006, 08:48:01 AM
I've always thought it sounded like a 'white noise'-type effect from a Moog synth.
243  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: brian's vocals in the early 70s on: June 08, 2006, 04:59:42 AM
Yes I reckon that's definitely Al.  Brian is on the soaring 'Ahhhh....' right at the top.

247  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1970's Beach Boys Albums / Re: The Beach Boys Love You on: May 24, 2006, 08:14:14 AM
The following quote, in my view, sums up Love You perfectly:

“The best description of this album, for those who have heard the music of Jonathan Richman, is to imagine Richman suddenly being given the musical talent of Bach, and two days in the studio. Anyone who doesn't love this album will loathe it, but it's their loss.”

Thanks guys - I was vaguely hoping for a 60/70's 'spot'.  Never mind - but I ain't giving up!
249  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / 'All Summer Long' live? on: May 17, 2006, 07:48:30 AM
This has always been one of my favourite early BB songs (and not just because as a child I thought they were singing my name...).  Brian has recently featured the song in concert, but is there any evidence of the Beach Boys performing it live?
250  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Carl Wilson was HANDSOME. on: May 17, 2006, 07:25:24 AM
My ex used to fancy Carl (circa 1980).  But then again she used to fancy me so she's no expert.  For me, Bruce always looked a little too much like a creepy televangelist.
